View Full Version : The Fastest Rollercoaster You Can Ever Build (Maybe not?)

I was very bored (can't play with all those bugs around) so I created a monster coaster...

I dunno if any of you encountered this before, but when I was building the ride, I hit what looked like a height ceiling (no sky textures when I reached the top with a coaster cam) and my pc slowed down incredibly (took me 20 seconds to build 1 piece of track in that area).

Here are the specs... I used a steel twister rollercoaster with launch hill tracks (is that how they are called?) instead of lift hills. Ofcourse the whole thing went out of the camera's view...

You want the ride design?

Mad Dog McKill

wah.. when I try to load my save game with the track, it just doesn't load and in the end returns to desktop exiting RCT3..

nevertheless I'll make a similar ride, but this time with a movie ;)

Ofcourse the whole thing went out of the camera's view...

Must be huge. Zoomed out at the furthest distance using fly view? (Couldn't imagine it to be so big that you could only see less than an 8th of it in that view.)

Mad Dog McKill
11-11-2004, 05:44 AM
Didn't use fly view.. I used advanced and looked at a 80 degrees (around there) angle.. I will try the fly cam now...

I saved the track design (its 600 kilobytes) but I had problems building it again.. my PC froze as soon as I selected the design.. I guess you need a fast comp for those sort of rides.. heh.. (mine is Athlon Xp 2600, Radeon 9600 Pro, 512mb ram)

Ok.. I will try building another rollercoaster now. I wanna see if the train goes faster when I build a 90 degrees slope (previously I used the steep slope). I might also make an adjustment - I will try to make it go as low as possible by lowering the land and that should create the highest drop possible in the game :)

Will try to put up a video tomorrow..

here are the stats and screens of the new ride

It seems vertical drop doesn't affect the acceleration..

I didn't knew about changing the view back then, but I made a ride of 2km+ high, G's were about 300 :D
I kept on building and building out of the screen, ended up inside the clouds so everything goes white around you.

Like I said before.. can't build any higher than around 1.75 km.. my pc just becomes very very slow..

you do realise that Blooduk2 is able to watch.. I don't think he used my com to watch it

Better get the latest divx codecs... both of you

And where can we find the codecs?

BTW... With the height cheat, anyone can easily top 1,000,000,000,000 feet.

Mad Dog McKill

well.. I used the latest divx codec to compress the video..

And about that 1 trillion feet thingy..

If anyone can top that, why don't you do it? (I did say that there is immense slow down after 1750 feet....if there wasn't, then I would've continued building  )

I dont really wanna download a new player. I like what I have. Could you at least let us download the ride?:)

Theoretically, in the year 9000, when we have super PCs, we could build a coaster that was as high as 9,999,999,999,999... feet tall, as long as there are no height restrictions...

You don't need a new player... download divX 5.2 or whatever the version is, then when installing, deselect the player, and it will only install the codecs...

BTW, the file size of the park would be so big...

Mad Dog McKill
11-16-2004, 08:10 PM
I think even if I give you the park, your pc would probably hang when RCT 3 will begin to load it.. same thing for the ride design...

Back in the 1.0 Demo I remember I built a coaster right around 5,280 ft (1 Mile to those out of the US/don't care about our stupid measurement system) and posted that video, it was crazy.

And while on the topic - anyone else know any cheat codes that make the game extra fun?

I never did get the stats, the demo closed out (I forgot to run my time hack) but the video used to be on my server. I've gone through many a video since then so it's long gone.:(

The only limit I encountered was that the computer started slowing down around the time I sent the coaster down.

This was the gentlest coaster I could make at this size.

bah.. I just realised that my height is higher than all of ya.. All this whole I was talking about 1773 meters , not feet ehehe

That is.. hmm... 5816 feet :D

I am european.. not used to feet.. meters all the way :noob:

I decided to push my coaster up a little further. It only has a two and a half kilometer drop now. I don't think that there are any hard limits to ride heights.

Stats for coaster (http://www.uploadimages.net/show.php?img=727672Shot0020.jpg)

View from the top of the world. (http://www.uploadimages.net/show.php?img=611173Shot0016.jpg)
The ground is so far behind the far clipping plane that I can't see my smily face.

A little closer to the ground and you can see the smily face. (http://www.uploadimages.net/show.php?img=895525Shot0017.jpg)

Dang that was a lot of clicking.

Mad Dog McKill

mmm very nice.. but can you make your coaster go faster than the speed of sound? :D

and please add a loop at the bottom to spice things up

..You Want a Coaster? One Word... WOW...
So I just built this coaster and let me start by saying it could be MUCH longer - here are the stats, sorry, I dont know how to make "screenies"

Speed: 220.60 mph
Avg Speed: 24.24
Time: 6:22
Length: 13,599.87 ft

Max. Pos. Vert. G's: 44.72 g
Max. Neg. Vert. G's: -33.34 g
Lat. G's: 72.76 g

Total 'Air' Time: 0:17
Drops: 6
Highest Drop: 1,640.05 ft
# of Inversions: 11

Excitement: .29 (Low)
Intensity: 44.28 (Uber-Extreme)
Nausea: 23.25 (Ultra-Extreme)

...wow...

^--talk about a fun coaster to ride, but long to build - I'm planning to sometime take the time to make a coaster that fills the entire park - probably take an hour to ride, anyways - when i build that one i'll try to get screenies up - but my computer can only do but so many things at once, it almost crashed when i went to re-paint the coaster today, so we'll see.

ICPJuggalo

Make sure to save often! I had almost completed one and it crashed. Really made my day.:( I rarely ever crash either so it was quite unexpected.

lol, yeah i got a little tired of building it after a while. and thanks for the save often advice - i'll be sure to do that when i go after my longest ever coaster :-D i might do that tonight actually... anyone have a type of coaster that they'd like to see made super high & super long?

Let me work on building a few more, some longer ones w/ better speed management and I'll then try to figure out the download situation and such :) I was working on an awesome coaster, then rct exited on me :( and I can't save without exiting the game and having to go back into it - but yeah, next time I have some down time I'll try to get one awesome coaster built and I'll try to get it uploaded

Mad Dog McKill
11-19-2004, 10:32 PM
For those of you who wanted the coaster design...

Just remember to rename the file to .trk (delete .mpg) . I am posting on forums where .trk extension files cannot be posted..

I wanna see if the train goes faster when I build a 90 degrees slope (previously I used the steep slope).

It's obviously supposed to. (It travels through less track and therefore has less friction acting on it. Same with vertical rises, even though it slows down quicker, it's more energy efficient.)

It seems vertical drop doesn't affect the acceleration..

Watch closely. If it still doesn't, then it might be a physics screw up.

Mad Dog McKill
11-20-2004, 07:35 PM
I think there is a difference betwen steep slope and vertical slope...

The difference is one ride's max speed (with steep slope) is around 660 km/h. The other one's is around 680 km/h (with vertical slope) ... doesn't seem like a lot to me....

Oh wait.. that 20 km/h faster is probably due to me making the last coaster go the lowest it can (you can say underground)... Looks like there is no difference at all..

P.S. you can easily test if their physics are right.. build 2 identical coasters, but one with vertical and one with steep slope. Test them, see their top speeds.. compare
