Kennywood park! Pittsburgh's finest amusement park, is opening up soon and will be host to some of the park's most memorable rides, like the Phantom's revenge, Racers, Jackrabbit, and Thunderbolt. Experience the rush from the Pitfall, and the screams and laughter from the Aero 360! All this and more comming soon!

Pictures will be added up when I get home, and a Video of the Jackrabbit and the Thunderbolt will be posted up as well...

if you'd like to contribute by making the track design for the Exterminator, i'd really appreciate it...

~~~~~~~~ Kennywood's Jackrabbit now open!! ~~~~~~~~~~
The long-awaited release of Kennywood's Jackrabbit is finally here!!! This Historic Rollercoaster, featuring the infamous "Double Dip," is now open for the public. This is a great day indeed, and marks the beginning of Kennywood Park!! For this, a "Coaster Cam" has been made, which can be viewed below.
The file size of the Coaster Cam is 3.10 MB
EDIT: The link is not working, and i'm working to fix it... sorry about that..
I'd love to try my hand at an Exterminator recreation. It would be pretty hard because I don't know the layout exactly. I'd love to help with any other parts of the park if you need it. I love Kennywood, and was looking for a project to colaborate with
Did they (Frontier,) ever fix the mobieus bug? In the demo, people rode the train through the second station and only exited when they returned to the station they started from.... :(
Hard to do a good Racer unless they fix that... Doing a two-track "Racer" just seems way too ugly for me...
I'd also like to see your Thunderbolt... I was having trouble getting the two "main" drops correct (the drop after the lift-hill and the matching drop-turn - the shot you always see in publicity pics, not the first drop out of the station and the big drop.)
Shame we didn't get a Whip flat ride.... The Kangaroo would have been a nice addition too, but there are VERY few of those flats left in the world, I doubt anyone at Frontier even knew they existed....
Curious... One of the main "attractions" in Lost Kennywood is the elaborite fountian.... How do you plan on doing that? (since we don't get fountian jets to mess with....
one thing I must say... please do not include that awful awful garfield ride. Make it the classic haunted mill ride which was so much better. Its kinda pathetic I went to phantom fright nights there and garfields horror ride was closed (which I think is because of how horrible it is). Hopefully next year they reopen the old mill ride in place of that junk.
Ok i'll answer questions now:
first off, cstrfrk:
If you want to help, i'd be happy to have you help... PM me with a way of contacting you... i have AIM and MSN messenger...
1. I'm not sure if they fixed the bug... if so, i'll hafta think hard on how to do a good Racer... man i hope it's fixed :cry: :cry:
2. The thunderbolt was kinda hard for the reason you stated. For that, after the first drop, and after the "double dip" drop, i had to unfortunately make a straightaway section... i'm gonna see if i can make a better version, but as of now, it's the best there is /sigh..
3. I agree with you on those ones. For rides that were not included, I am either going to put a "under construction" area up, or put a replacement ride..
4. The fountain is the one i'm working on right now.. I want to get all the hard things out of the way, and this is a tricky one.. i'm looking for ways to make it w/out harming it... when I make it, i'll post up a picture here..
I am not including "Garfield's Nightmare"... i have not ridden it yet, so for that I will put in the Old Mill.. besides, the old mill was cool in it's old sort of way... ;)
Thanks for the great responses so far! I'm going to work starting on the ground...
11-10-2004, 04:55 PM
hehe.... I moved from Pgh a few years ago.... THANK GOD I haven't seen them re-do the Old Mill!!! I would most likely cry if I saw it changed to some Garfield p.o.s.!
Any 'burghers remember when it was "Happy Harry's Hideous Haunted Hideaway?" That's the name I've always called it, since that's what it was when I was a kid...
As for the Whip.... It's a sorry re-creation, but placing the car track (vintage/sports/etc...) might do for visuals only.....
(I would view your movie if I could.)
As an ex-Pittsburgher I created the Jack Rabbit, Racer, and Thunderbolt for RCT2 a long time ago. Since then I updated them for RCT3. Apparantly physics in the RCT series don't exactly match real life for although my virtual creations have approximately the same duration, top speed, and height as the real ones, at least according to RCDB, the track lengths tend to be about 10-20% less.
Anyhow, take a look at my coaster files:
Addendum: As others noted, RCT3 does not handle Moebius coasters like Racer correctly. However I was more concerned with building the coaster rather than peep management.
Ok I fixed the video and Uploaded it. The file size of the video is stated on my 1st post. You can view the file here!! (https://home.comcast.net/~Kenshin8518/Jackrabbit.wmv)
I would change the double-drop (that section where you get the MASSIVE air-time) to be a bit farther down the hill... (use one full 60degree drop then to level, then back to 60) There's a good pic of that drop here. (http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery120.htm?Picture=1) Even though the track doesn't use banked turns, I would "cheat" and put in a down helix after the station, if only to get better speeds...
Also.... oops, you put that it was a t-bolt video in the title, not jackrabbit...
Looks good, but the ground needs a little tweaking so it doesn't come up through the track. Also, don't forget to change the color to white.
11-11-2004, 04:25 PM
Thanks for the reply TokerB. I noticed the ground when I made the video, and fixed it then, so that's fixed :up: . The 60-degree drop was taken out due to track problems. By adding it in, you would have to increase the height on the chainlift, and thus would have to take the track back more, which would mess up the layout. That is the best i could get w/out messing up the layout.. The speed seems fine when leaving the station... i don't think it goes too slow... or maybe it's just me.. idk.. *checks video* it says T-bolt... oops.. my mistake.. :rolleyes:
btw: the color is white.. all white except for the railing, which i just changed to white.. ;)
11-11-2004, 04:53 PM
It looked like a tan color to me... I looked again and I'm guessing that I thought that because of the dawn/evening environment lighting...
I agree though... the starting speed does look ok... I was just used to seeing the flat (non-banked) helix at the start.... Minor thing...
thanks... without actually riding garfields nightmare you can not see how horrible it is... first off any ride that requires reading should be drug into a dark alley and shot. Secondly, garfield... scary? Oh no the lasagna is coming after me *yawn*. The best part of the ride is watching the pictures of the people on the ride yawning, giving thumbs down, and even giving garfield the finger. I do hope they close down this peice of ****. On a good side note during phantom fright nights as soon as you entered the park they had the huge horse and carriage from the old mill.
11-12-2004, 05:11 PM
man it's THAT bad?? wow... and the lines were big for it... sheesh.. well i'm glad i haven't rode it yet..
For my park, I should have some new screenshots up soon.. i had a lot of schoolwork, and will continue with the park tonight.. i'm going to find a picture of the "Turnpike" and re-create that.. after that, i'll work on the Old Mill... i'm basically getting rid of the front section of the park, and that whole eastern area..
Post your vid in the pinned thread (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=419868) at the top...I'm sure it'll be viewed more(get more attention) there!
Thanks Tikitiki
ok i posted it up there.... Thanks for telling me..
11-13-2004, 04:22 PM
kennywood is my hometown theme park..dont **** this up..ill be mad.
11-13-2004, 05:07 PM
Man, you'll be pissed because there arent all the elements and games and rides in rct3 so go f*** yourself.
11-13-2004, 05:56 PM
Hey are you going to make the version of the park that still has the steel phantom?
(P.S. I have a new title and sig so check em out :D )
11-13-2004, 08:12 PM
great ride, never ridden in real life though. I noticed the ground go into the track a few times but it's very good. Did you have a blueprint of the track or is this from memory?
11-14-2004, 01:43 AM
This was from memory... as I have ridden it a lot and knew the layout pretty good..
As for the "missing" elements... The Jackrabbit, Racers, and Thunderbolt can be made.. it takes time, but they are do-able.. for the Phantom's revenge: It can be done, as I did it on RCT 2... the only thing about it is it has a weird part after the 1st drop.. it needs to bank a little more then rct lets it, so it does not want to go over the station...
As for the Steel Phantom... i'm not sure.. If i get the chance when i'm done with this one, i'll make one..
btw: I just built a few buildings on the game: The first arcade you see when you go past the Old Mill, and the 2nd arcade you see when you go past the Jackrabbit on your way to the Racers... I also build the small, round shop that has lockers and i think games atop it...
I also laid out the groundwork for the Old Mill and Turnpike.. I am looking for good pictures of these rides to get it as realistic as i can.. for the Old Mill, i'm looking into some of the western theming items to make it... the track layout will look like the Old mill, but since they don't have any type of scenery that resembles the Old mill, i'll use western theming to make it..
Grew up in Pittsburgh and wnet to Kennywood in the 1950's and 1960's.
Was hoping to download Dark_Rider2k3's Kennywood snadbox park, but now that it is Feb 2007, the link he posted several years earlier is defunct.
If anyone has a copy, could you either post a new link or send as an attachment to jeffreystanton@yahoo.com
I live in Pittsburgh right now and this park holds so many memories for me. I've been going at least twice a year since I was 2. I can't wait to see this. I LOVE KENNYWOOD!
03-06-2007, 02:06 PM
unfortunately, i don't think we'll get to see a kennywood park...i don't think the author of this thread is even around anymore.
06-07-2007, 11:24 PM
sorry to bump an old thread but i'm starting a Kennywood recreation tomorrow... I'm going there Saturday so i'll be including some of the newer rides and colors... I just need to find some CS to finish it...
06-12-2007, 04:27 PM
I'll be interested to see your progress!
06-14-2007, 07:20 PM
Yes, please post Kennywood once you're done. I'm sure it will be awesome.
Well, good luck with the recreation!
I work at Kennywood (Skycoaster crew), so if you need help, just let me know.
Please keep us posted on how things are going.
