JUMP TO LATEST UPDATE (Feb 12, 2005)
Latest update: Glacier Bay - "Avalanche" Video Premiere (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=6166008#post6166008)

The thread is getting kinda long, so I added the link above to jump to the latest updates.

Thanks to everyone for their fantastic feedback and suggestions! I'm always open to new ideas and witty banter. Say hi and let me know what you think!

To all past, current and aspiring park & coaster designers, thank you for providing me with the inspiration, the motivation and the countless sparks of creativity that your creations deliver. You are all a bunch of talented freaks! If you haven't checked out some of these people's work, you are missing out!

And to Frontier, thank you for providing this fantastic playspace. Now get back to work!

And to Atari, thank you for putting it in a shiny box and provding this forum to meet each other and share our obsessive little creations. Now get back to work!

And as for me? I'm getting back to work on the park :P

----------------------------------

Inspiration Park Hotel

The Inspiration Park Hotel features 200 guest rooms, many with balconies overlooking The Promenade shopping district or the Park's lush gardens.

Other ammenities include a rooftop swimming pool, glass elevators in the lobby, a Red Line station, quality dining at Kabuki's Asian Grill or The Red Line Cafe, and shopping at the Hotel Gift Shop.

The Inspiration Park hotel is now taking reservations for its inauguaral 2005 season. Stay where the action is!

Inspirations: The Inspiration Park Hotel is an homage to Disneyland Paris. While I've never been to DLP, I've read that Paris' Disneyland Hotel was designed to function both as a "castle hotel" and a gateway to Disneyland Paris. Its one thing to stay near the park... it's another thing entirely to sleep overlooking Main Street U.S.A.

Quadplex Cinemas

The Quadplex Cinema is a popular movie house located at the end of The Promenade shoping district. Along with the 4 moderately exciting screens showing low intensity 3D flicks, the Sci-Fi inspired Quadplex features a full service snackbar with ice cream, candy and other yummy treats as well as several restrooms.

You walk under the hotel, then throught the turnstiles, then under the station. I can only dream of staying there, and watching the fireworks from it. Woh. Just so you know, just before the hotel there is a huge fountain, the behind that to the left is the entrance to WDS

Thanks a ton, Milk :)

I've been reading a lot of Disney architecture books (particularly "Building A Dream" by Beth Dunlop) and in them, I've learned that "architecture should have a plot". So it's a real compliment for you to say I turn the simple in to the grandeous. Thank you again.

I'm getting more and more into this park as you keep fueling my creativity. The Promenade is really coming along.

Here's a new one:

Highland Bakery
The Highland Bakery is the perfect place to stop for a quick nosh and a cup of coffee before heading out into Inspiration Park. Serving fresh baked goods all day and night - including hot hand-twisted pretzels, gooey chocolate-chip cookies, delicious pumpkin pies and an assortment of coffees, cocoas and sodas.

Beautiful! May I ask how you made that Inspiration park logo that you put in all your pics?

I'm right now about to build a hotel for my new park and came to this thread to look at the pic of the DLP hotel to see if i can get some ideas and saw there was an update! hehe.

I use Macromedia Fireworks (http://www.macromedia.com/software/fireworks/) to get the logo in the screenshot. I also use it to crop out the UI.

And the logo itself is just a typeface I downloaded from FontFreak.com (http://www.fontfreak.com/).

I'm sad you trashed your hotel. I liked it :( sniffle :(

I've been working on The Promenade some more. Here's the latest:

Volcano Cafe
The once dormant Mount Vulcan has roared awake from its long slumber and now errupts hot pixelated magma every 2 minutes!

The Volcano Cafe features fine flame-roasted "Steak-in-a-bun", rotissere chicken, bison burgers, coconut smoothies and a variety of other adventure-infused cuisine. Reservations highly recommended for groups of 4 or more.

OMG, impressionant buildings simbolism, thats what makes a park in this game come to live as if it was a real one. Love all the buildings, i was going to do something very similar to your Italian restaurant for my La Mamma di Mario e Luigi restaurant in my Nintendo LAND. Thanks Teirmose, Milkdud & GiveTM_a_chance! I really appreciate the feedback. You all are killing me with kindness and I'm lovin' it :D <blush>

Just added another building... The Magic Castle. I think it might be the last major building in The Promenade Shopping District. This was my first time playing with the Spooky Castle set and I think it's my favorite set in the game so far. Let me know what you think!

The Magic Castle
Creepy kooks around every corner! A frightfully fun frolic through The Magic Castle will make your spine chill!

On the ground floor, you'll find The Dungeon restaurant. Menu selections include burgers, chicken, "Bloody" shakes and specialty pies. Also on the ground floor is Jester's Joke Shop and Horror Hats shops.

Upstairs, The Spooky Slide will make you dizzy with terror!

Inspiration: I originally wanted to create a magic shop and make it look like a magician's hat turned upsidedown, but I couldn't get the building to come out the way I wanted. I soon scrapped the magic shop idea and came up with the spooky castle/slide combo. The building kinda resembles Medieval Times (Orlando) and gets its moniker from The Magic Castle (Hollywood).

Thank you jkelly888, Ct1436, aoshi67, Milkdud, sevey13, GiveTM_a_chance, Whiteflash, Your_Name_here, belloman & xstax. You guys & gals are awesome!

To answer your question jkelly, I started Inspiration Park 7 days ago. Since then, I've been working nearly every day on the park, typically making 2 buildings a day. I play for about 8 hours a night. I love holiday break! I go back to work after the new year and won't have as much time to goof off with my parks <pout>. So I'm on an RCT binge right now :D

And to Ct1436, I only use bloom when I'm taking screenies, for that special pizzaz. When I'm building, shadows & bloom are off.

To my excitment, I have finished The Promenade Shopping District.

The Promenade Shopping District - COMPLETE

You all have driven me to unabashed delight with your comments and complements... and the peeps seem to dig it too, which is fantastic. I've got the simulation set on 20% preferred intensity to ensure the peeps will enjoy all of the gentle rides in this portion of the park. As I build more intense rides, I plan to adjust the slider accordingly.

Now the question is "what next?"

Well, it's off to design the actual park, of course! I've got some ideas brewing on how the park will flow and what the themes will be for each area... but I'm not telling what they are yet :P. You'll just have to wait for the next update.

Simbolism
12-30-2004, 09:49 AM
Sorry for the double-post, but I wanted to get out this latest update.

I've spent the past several hours terraforming the general landscape for the park. I came about this layout as I was evaluating the maps of my 2 favorite parks, Disneyland (Anaheim) and Islands of Adventure (Orlando). I really think the "wagon wheel hub" of Disneyland is very efficient, allows the visitors access to any land from one central point and provides a nice aesthetic looking down Main Street. IoA, on the otherhand does a very good job of segregating their themes by seperating them with water. It sure takes the challenge out of coming up with elegant transitions from one theme to the next. Also, the flow around IoA is really good - hopping from one island to the next.

Not one to settle for either, I decided to try and combine them and get the best of both worlds. Here's the results:

http://www.simbolism.com/RCT3/IP/parkPlans2.jpg
Park overview - pre-construction - Click to enlarge

I'm still not completely sure if these are the final lands or if the names will stick. Let's call them "open for debate" :D

I'm kinda sad that there's no Sci-Fi area, as I really like that building set, but I don't think there's enough room for it. <sigh>. What do you think of renaming "Central Square" to something like "Inspiration Hub" and theming it to Sci Fi? Or should it stay "Central Square" and have a more park-like garden setting? What do you all think?

As always, your comments, compliments & criticisms are welcomed and encouraged

Simbolisim, you know that Spooky Hollow is my park's spooky section, don't you? I don't care, I'm just mentioning it.... it doesn't matter to me! The only reason I called mine Spooky Hollow is because I built a woodie in RCT 2 that I really liked and I called it Spooky Hollow.... and I wanted to use it in RCT 3.

Anyways, great layout... belloman like the Promenade:D... and the rest of the layout! I like how you made the layout in game, and then just took a screenshot and labeled each section.

Keep up the good Work!

Milk, I LOVE IOA. Hulk is on my top 5 coasters of all time list. Dueling Dragons is on that list, too. Universal did a fantastic job with that park. I can't go to Fla without going. Is anyone working on a recreation?

I'm going to wing it with Excavation: Egpyt, YNH... like this:

Pyramid Plaza
At the foot of the grand pyramid, Khufu, lies the gateway to Excavation: Egypt - Pyramid Plaza. While in The Plaza, enjoy a hearty meal before your pyramid adventure begins! Or, stock up on the essential pyramid gear at "Digger's" gift shop.

Inspiration: My favorite park in RCT1 had a suspended swinging coaster that I sent around a pyramid. I miss that coaster. I'm looking forward to recreating it around this glorious 3D mess of polygons.

I am sad to say that construction on Inspiration Park has been delayed indefinitely.

The problem is that everytime I try to place an entrance or an exit to a ride, the game crashes to the desktop. I'm going to post a thread on the support boards and hope for the best.

Enchanted Park has the same issue. I sent Frontier the EP files and they replied by saying they are going to try and address the problem in Update #2. Again, I'll hope for the best.

Thanks again for all your support. I'll post any changes to status as I get more info.

Of course! After pulling my hair out for a good 3 or 4 hours, followed by a cocktail - I decided to put it behind me and move on. I LOVE playing this game. I don't want to deprive myself :) So I hopped back on RCT3 and started a new scenario.

I'm working on a darkride/coaster at the moment...

It's called "The Cryptkeeper"

Stay tuned for an update on it in a new thread... and perhaps even a video

Thanks Milk, XopePoquar, Mosquito_Bait, bwoogie & RCFanatic. I just received word back from Frontier after sending them the corrupted files. Here's what they have to say: "Thanks for your feedback, the problems you are experiencing are resolved in the next update. We are hoping that Update 2 will be available by the end of the week."

Thanks Michael @ Frontier for the update! YAY!

@ Milk - I've got to keep a level head about me. And this game doesn't suck at all. In another post, I've related it to Los Angeles. You have to drive through the bad parts to get to the good. But when you get to the good stuff - it's REALLY good!

@ XopePoquar - Hey, thanks for the offer! Are you a good cook?

@ Mosquito_Bait - I think that's one of the great things about RCT3 and why it appeals to such a broad audience. I'm not very good at creating coasters. I can't seem to build anything with excitment greater than 8.5 - and that's with a ton of detailed theming. But I do enjoy making them none-the-less. Check out Frightmare in my sig to see my latest coaster.

@ RCFanatic - When I'm building a building, I try to tell a story with the architecture and think like a peep. I build places that I would like to visit and make sure it looks realistic from a peep-POV. It keeps things exciting for me :)

Thanks again for the support. Just a few more days until I can get back to work on the park!

about that question you asked a few posts back. Before I would have said leave it as is and do the park-garden thing but now that I have played with the sci-fi themes..you might try to do something with that instead. I like the whole green house buildings. I am refering to the Central area..about the idea of makeing it into sci-fi instead.

Theming on Inspiration Park's first coaster is taking longer than I expected. I had hoped to be finished with it tonight, but I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to work on it. So.... all I have is an "under construction" teaser of "Sandstorm"

I especially like the colors you chose for the rides.... SWEET! Talk about an easy, subtle way to handle some VERY effective theming!

P.S. Thanks for your comments on Neuschwanstein. It's proving to be very challenging, but I'm not done yet. The hard part is trying to remain faithful to the real castle while making it "park/ride" friendly... (what did I get myself in to?:p )

Sandstorm is now nearing completion. Still a wee bit of theming left to do (I'm thinking I might add another building), but this one is almost in the bag :)

Sandstorm at Excavation: Egypt
As the sands blow across the Egyptian Desert, a mighty force rises above the dunes - Sandstorm!

Inspiration: Back in the early days of RCT1, I made a park that included a suspended swinging coaster that traveled around a small pyramid. It was one of my favorite coasters I've built, and Sandstorm is an homage to it :)

simbolism, where do you get inspiration for your parks (namely the buildings)? i try and i can't get anywhere NEAR what you can do. i imagine it takes a long time to do. i've been doing yahoo! searches for mansions, cabins, etc. it helps some. i also try to picture what i want to make. roofs are hard, as currently you have to raise pieces individually. i miss the ctrl, or whatever key(s) it was, feature that was in rct2. it made roof placement a breeze. :)

Whew! It's been a long time since the last Inspiration Park update. I've missed working on it! Thanks for your patience as I finished up The Stake over at Frightmare.

And thank you for the overwhemling response! I'm really not used to all of this positive praise and I'm not sure what to do with myself <blush>

Try to answer a few questions:

@XMultiply: I hope to release a download for the park shortly after the expansion comes out this summer.

The park is still running smoothly - depending on what I'm looking at. The Promenade and Hotel are very laggy when the camera is pointed in at certain spots with reflective water. It's moderately tolerable at this point.

@suessical123: There will be 6-15 attractions per themed land. I'm working on most of the "e-tickets" first - with a little help from my friends in the Community ;)

@Phantom: I had the idea for Waterloo before I knew about "Soaked!". Now I am SUPER excited! I don't have to use river boats and log flumes! I can make a real water park!

@rct addict: My inspiration sparks from many different places. Sometimes, my inspiration builds, brick-by-tedious-brick as I construct a building. Trial-and-error is the method I use most often and sometimes clumsy misktakes turn into novel features.

My inspiration stems mainly from my own experiences. For example, last fall Mrs. Simbolism and I visted Yellowstone National Park. It was a pretty cool place. While there, we visited the Old Faithful Inn. I remember marveling at the architecture and the feeling of warmth it emmited in the cold snowy fall. It also had a great "ski-lodgey" feel to it. I thought it would be perfect recreated in IP's Glacier Bay as the entrance to Griff's Avalanche:

Avalanche Peak Inn
http://img206.exs.cx/img206/3812/avinn23wz.jpg

A quick search on Google resulted in many images the Old Faithful Iinn to work from. Here's the image I used as the main reference (http://www.nps.gov/yell/press/images/structrs/innext1.jpg).

I'm putting the finishing touches on the Inn right now and working with some top talent to incorporate some amazing special f/x into Avalanche.

Stay tuned to this thread for interior screenies of the Inn, those amazing visual F/X and a video soon

Simbolism, this is great stuff!!

As a form of flattery, I've included a pic of Avalanche and a link to this thread (and The Wooden Stake) in a thread at the SimCity4 site I visit once in a while to show the great things users have done with RCT3. The link is here, http://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=47060

I've also included one from ytivarg's Gotham City park, and two meager ones of my own. Thanks for the "inspiration":D , I couldn't just use mine (they suck).

Super job on Avalanche Peak Inn. The scale is grand and a great tribute to the lodges out west. Love the variety of angles within the roof line and tasteful use of gables. I'm especially fond of the fireplace on the far end of the screenshot (assuming that's the fireplace stack). Great job. Inspires me to create a winter based park.

I love your intros Simbolism! They're so... beautiful! The slow camera pan up from the water was brilliant, and the music and scenery fitted perfectly together. Awesome "Northern Lights" too, nice one Phantom!

As for the coaster - it looked really nice, although it didn't really have the right tempo. I thought the choice of music would have been better suited to a "Calamity" Mine Train ride! (Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved the music, I just think a slightly slower tune would have fitted better, because the ride wasn't as fast as I expected.)

Still, the standard you have set for youself is one of the absolute highest, and let me take nothing away from your phenomenal creativity and talent in creating these magnificent spectacles! Superb work :D

Nicely said Dark Sim.

Simblism, that video was absolutley gorgeous! I loved the very beginning staring down at the water with the little ripples with the captions, BEAUTIFUL! The inside of the Avalnche Peak Inn sets the PERFECT mood, it was so cozy and nice! Now, the coaster was a bit slow. It hit all the inversions very slow and made the ride boring. This ALL could have easily been fixed by reducing the power of the brakes after the launched lift hill. Just by doing that, the ride would have been so much better, hitting all the inverison much more smoothly.
Other than that the video was spectacular! The music you chose was perfect and your opening scenes are just so professional and beautiful.

Simbolism, you've outdone yourself again. The video was absolutely fantastic.

Phantom, your eye for custom fireworks humbles me. Absolutely stunning.

I must agree with Milkdud about the coaster. Those brakes at the top are a tad too harsh, toning them down just a bit would keep the pace of the coaster at a much more 'thrilling' rate.

And, it was absolutely worth the 3 hour download. *glares at his cursed dial-up connection with extreme distaste* :D

FANTASTIC WORK!

Even though this is my first post to this thread, I have been watching it for a while. This praise is very long overdue, but you are doing an utterly amazing job!

Each time I come back to see more, and each time you keep outdoing yourself with one awe-inspiring creation after the next!

The themeing you are doing is PERFECT!!! You have a wonderful sense for presenting a story to go along with the work you are doing, and the underlying "feel" that I get from looking at the screens really enhances the experience of viewing your park.

Congrats also to Griffman and Phantom for your contributions! You have done a lot of work to help along the progression of this park, and it really shows!

@EBITUSA16: As Phantom mentioned, all of the effects are custom fireworks of his own creation. Aren't they simply spectacular? He's gotta be the best F/X man on the boards.

@Phantom523: You're the best F/X man on the boards! And yeah - that was an all-nighter to finish up the video :) Thank you so much for your contribution to the park! I can't wait to collaborate again!

@DarkSim: Thanks for the comps :) The on-ride music track may not fit perfectly, but the song is actually called "AValanche", so I couldn't resist. I think the tone is right in any case

@Milkdud: Thanks mate ;) I actually like the pacing of the ride. But coaster tastes differ and are so subjective.

@Griffman: I don't recall chaging anything. The top brakes are set at 13.42 MPH. Does that gel with your original track? Personally, I really like it. Inspiration Park isn't about the thrill, it's about the emotional response - and I think your Avalanche delivers!

@shyguy: I hope Frontier is watching! <waves at David> I'm ready for that job offer at any time :D

@Plunkie86, bello, mschulz5, ytivarg, satriales, Your_Name_Here, GiveTM_a_chance: THANK YOU!!!

I totally agree about the ride speed. I think it was perfect! Very realistic. Great Specs, to!!! Excitment in the high 7's, Intensity in the mid 6's, and a low puke factor (3.4). It was fast enough to make it exciting, whil still being able to appreciate all the scenery! <High Five> Guys!!!

Milkdud
02-22-2005, 02:44 PM
I do think the coaster design is very fun indeed, I just disagree about the speed. I think its important for a coaster train to hit inversions smoothly. To me, theres nothing more beautiful than watching a coaster train go into a cobra roll at a perfect speed. If you have seen "the Hulk" you'll know what I mean. When I go to IOA I love to just sit near the Hulk's track and watch it hit that cobra roll over and over again :p But if the train hits that inversion at a slow speed, to me, it loses it's beauty.

But thats just me :p

Again Griff, the track is very very nice, just wished it was a bit faster.

Maybe the team of Simbolism, Phantom, and Griffman will strike again one day. You never know!

Another terrific video from another great team!

I agree that the opening shot of the water ripples, with a faint reflection of the snow flakes, was inspired. And that grand fireplace within the lodge? Wow - half an hour ago I was shoveling snow in RL, so I just wanted to pause the video and curl up there in the fire's warmth.

The snow and Northern Lights effects were very well done - even the lazy smoke coming out of the chimney was great.

The coaster had a 'cool' paint scheme that fitted in perfectly. In fact, that one shot with the music credit overlaid - the coaster practically looked like it was made out of ice!

Great job everyone!

The more and more I watch this amazing video of Avalanche the more I realize that slower really was the way to go on this 'coaster. The slow inversions really went well with the music in the opening shots! I can't beleive I didn't spot this before. If the coaster was faster, it wouldn't have went well with that music and the video wouldn't have been as amazing.

I sincerely apologize Griffman, I had no right to say what you should have done with YOUR coaster, it truly was great, I just should have watched the video more before

hmm... im downloading it now... im setting a pretty high standard since it is you simbolism... im going to log my reactions before and after the ride... it looks cool... but sounds like it might be slow... i do like the fireplace... the fireworks are really cool... but idk if it can beat 'wooden stake'... lets find out....

it was good. the effects were GREAT phantom! the coaster was okay, the scenery was very good as well. the only problem i see with the entire ride is it's all very slow like some other people said...the pace of the song didn't quite match the tone that the ride was trying to set. but yeah, all in all it was fantastic, and know that im still completely blown away by the beauty and majesty of the ride, just not as much as I was with the wooden stake

griffman: great job on the loops, they were very big and... well... loopy is the best way i can describe it. the coaster looks amazing and rides well... a little greater speed here or there and it would be the best twister I have ever seen. but then again... im biased because of my giant twister :P ... but then again im biased lol.

WHO are you? Are you playing the same game I am? I have always been more true to the title reguarding what I build. I always have made very interesting and unique coasters. (At least I thinks so), but wow I think you have(pun intended) inspired me to rethink my ways. I used to build a park around the coasters I designed. I almost never bothered saving them for use in other parks because i felt that when I build the ride I did so for a specific purpose, I have that same idea, however you take it light years past my simple techniques. Going forward I will try to use you as a model of how RCT should be "played". I put "played" in quotes because what you have done is not playing it is a creation of art, pure and simple ART!!! Please keep doing what you do.

I am very proud of the coasters I have built. I have not had the time or patience for all the theaming stuff, and as I said in my post it has never been my forte'. I am failry consistant in being able to get around 8.5 Excitment, however I wish i could tone down the intensity ratings. alot of them are around 8 also. It was easier in RCT1 and 2, if you ask me because i saw a more pronounced change in the intensity by makine sue the G forces were under control. in RCT3 i dont see my modifications doing that much to lower the intensity rating.

Reguarding butting in... Your in a forum everybody butting in. Thats what it is here for. What i really wanted to do was get a laugh out of you I thought I frmaed it that way,

I really am interested in seeing some of your coasters. Can you put one of the ones you are most proud of up? I could also have you look at a few of mine and tell me what things I coud do to improve upon them. I think I do a fairly good job, but have never posted any or gotten any feedback (other than from my 7 year old)on them. They are nothing compared to the amazing stuff seen in this thread but as standalone coasters go I think they are pretty good.

Again sorry for coming of sounding like a school teacher it was not my intention.

Heya YNH!

There will most certainly be more updates to Inspiration Park. I really love working on it! The next update will be some additions to the "Amazon Adventure" area of the park - but they won't be coming for quite some time.... because...

Right now I'm focused on a yet-to-be-announced movie-based park with some amazing collaborators. Stay tuned to the exchange for an announcment in the coming weeks!

Hey Sim - is it what I'm thinking (one of the things I mentioned a few weeks back when some chap was asking for ideas?)

Unreal. :bulb:

I finally decided to visit these forums after a 4 month hiatus... and I'm glad I did. "Inspiration" must be the word of the day Sim, because you've just inspired me to start building parks again.

Keep up the great work!

Just viewing the still images is awstruck and jawdropping. How did you creat the fireplace? My ski lodge could use just that fireplace! Don't look, but I heard someone tearing it down to move it to my Ski Lodge. :D ;) :haha:

Just viewed the most magnificant video yet. What a team of RCT workers you have. Do they relocate to other parks?

Hi gang,

Long time, no post!

As it appears that I don't have the same copious amounts of free time that I had back in 2005 when I was making Inspiration Park, I have decided to put up the .DAT file of the park in its unfinished state. By downloading the file, you can check out all of the little details that didn't translate well in the screenshots and videos.

So... go ahead and download and have fun. You can download the file HERE (http://simbolism.com/rct3/ip/ip.zip).

Happy downloading and hope all is well with you, my long lost community.

So you will not complete Inspiration Park?

Regrettibly, I can't finish Inspiration Park at this time for two reasons...

1) I have hardly any freetime these days - ThemeParker.com (see my sig) and Mrs. Simbolism occupies all that I do have

2) The park is becoming increasingly difficult to work on given the framerates i'm getting (about 4-5). I hope to buy a new computer next year that will solve the problems

And, I fully expect once you get a new computer, that Mrs. Sim will allow you some play time with it. ;)
