A Large Casino Hotel developer purchased the property of an old abandoned Midway style amusement park called Mountain Park. Adjacent to the park, is a bankrupt Ski Resort with Summer Operation of a chairlift to the top of the mountain, where a slide brought you back to their base. Also a Wave pool and water slides were in operation. They were all built near a currently active Stone Quarry. The developer has already built an underground Tram system to connect all points of the Park.

Since the state of Massachusetts did not pass the highly anticipated Casino Legislation. Mountain Park Hotel and Casino was ordered to be demolished.

Demolition crews are now gone and left Design and construction to J.J. Murphy & Co. the job of reconstruction. Their inspiration comes from TheProfessor101.

The company has completed the 1st phase of the project, that being the New Resort Hotel and left for the week, leaving some Images of their work. They did mention that they have construction photos of the hotel available. When they return from Easter Vacation, The 2nd phase of construction, the Transportation Hub will begin. The 3rd phase will be to reconstruct the Ski Resort and Water Park. The 4th phase will be to Reconstruct, repair, repaint and otherwise refurbish the abandoned Midway style amusement park. The 5th phase will be to add a New Thrill park as the central part of the complex.

Sullivan123

Thanks Milkdud for the kind words.

The park is a 254 x 254 layout. The parking lot is outside of the park boundries. I have tested the Monorail surrounding the parking lot, and it works fine, as long as the station is inside the park. I tried a second boarding station at the outer limits of the parking lot, NO GO the station entrances or exits cannot be built, just another flaw in RCT3, as well as my issue about the ELEVATORS, they should not require the massive Ticket booth and exit que.

What you are viewing is A TUNNEL. It is RCT3 using the Mavis tunnel workaround or something like that. My first video shows the inside working of the same. What you posted was the tunnel durring construction phase, prior to being buried underground.

Just add the folling line to your options text

"AttractionSceneryAllowTerrainIntersect 1" without the quotes

and it is a trick that works.

Hopefully SOAKED will have this built in to work even better.

Before I figured out the tunnels actually function. I just liked the park and wanted to take a look and the structures, they are so huge and impressive :)

I see what you did with the block walls and slabs, what I can't seem to figure out is how bury the tunnel. It just doesn't seem to work for me. I have tried this with a mini-rail and even tried using the trams as you did with no luck.

I copied and pasted the line into options.txt, double checked to make sure I had saved it and tried re-starting the software but I still cannot seem to place track underground even with adding two thick slabs underneath and using the walls and slabs on top as it appears you have done.

The ground still seems to want to behave as it normally would coming up both sides of the tunnel but not over it. I even tried messing around with your park in scenario editor, I can “dig the tunnel up” but cannot bury it again once I do.

Sullivan123
04-22-2005, 12:50 PM
Did you add

"AttractionSceneryAllowTerrainIntersect 1"

to the Options.txt without the quotes?

Then you first have to dig a tunnel, lay the slabs foundation add the track over the slab, enclose the track with walls on the SAME tile as the track and cover the walls with a slab.
Save the tunnel walls as a scenery item, then delete the walls and slabs, remove the track section from your working area, but not the entire track. refill the ground to the terrain height that you want, then paste the saved scenery tunnel, it will appear blue when the correct location is chosen, red when the wrong area is selected. Paste by right clicking your mouse, then continue laying the track into the tunnel.

If this doesn't work, I will send you stills of construction

KiDFoX
04-22-2005, 02:31 PM
Here is what I put in options.txt in the C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 directory:

Language English
AttractionSceneryAllowTerrainIntersect 1
FirstTime 1

I created a simple min-railway and raised some ground and dug the tunnel. I then placed the slabs under the track, lined the sides with walls ont he same tiles as the slabs placed slabs on the top to enclose the track. I saved it using the custom structures tools and then removed the walls and slabs and removed the track from the area where the tunnle was to go. I pasted the tunnel back in, it turned blue where I wanted it to go and tried to lay trak again and got standard warning.http://www.kidfox.net/images/trial.jpg

Was your tunnel wall double height?
From image I don't think you gave yourself enough Height clearance.
And I do not see any bottom slab under the track. Try placing slab under external track piece as well as tunnel piece to check for clearance.

nope; the problem is not that, the problem is that you modified the options.txt file that is in the instalation folder you have to modify the options.txt that is in C:/Documents and Settings/[Your Windows Username]/Application Data/Atari/RTC3/options.txt
Don't forget to turn on the option to see the hidden folders ;)

Sorry I didn't pick up on your file location
Sushicide is correct

C:/Documents and Settings/[Your Windows Username]/Application Data/Atari/RTC3/options.txt

then place this option into the txt as a new line
"AttractionSceneryAllowTerrainIntersect 1"

http://img20.echo.cx/img20/7235/picture12rn.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)
Start with tunnel base, walls and top.
Use same base height for track piece.
Save tunnel as scenery item, them paste same in location of your track.
Use shift key to lower tunnel into place.

First of all, a VERY COOL PARK!!!
I really liked the pictures and especially the night views and the alpine slide.

I want to create tunnels too, and I already know Mavi´s Tunnel trick. But there is no Atari File in the File Application Data. Only a File from Microsoft. (so there is no options.txt) Should I reinstall the Game?

KiDFoX

Typically you should find it here

C:\Documentsandsettings\your_user_name\Applicationdata\Atari\RCT 3

options.txt is what you need to modify and it should work.

KiDFoX
05-10-2005, 05:40 PM
Point I was making is that there are sometimes more than one application data folder on your system but usually you should only find one under documents and settings\username\application data. The other will be under documents and settings\username\local settings.

options.txt should be under the first one in a folder called Atari\RCT...

Can you get that tunnels method to work for paths also?

Sullivan123
04-07-2007, 05:54 PM
I have never tried the tunnel trick for paths, and thinking about it, I do not believe it will work, as paths cannot be built over scenery items, but who knows it is worth a try.

Better yet, try RCT3 Soaked, it already has tunnels for tracks and paths built in. You also can use lights in the new add-in of Soaked, along with new rides, parks and peeps swimming in pools. It is so much easier and no time consuming problems that the method that I used in my park.

The only thing I don't like about those tunnels is that there's no walls inside of them.... it's just blackness all around. So I figured out how to line my path tunnels with walls. You just have to put the wall on the neighboring tile but still parallel and adjacent to the path.

Sullivan123
04-09-2007, 10:26 AM
That should work, I am not sure about the base under the path, I will have to try it out myself.

It doesn't work last time I tried. But the path is wide enough to cover that area so you don't need a base under it.

Sullivan123
04-10-2007, 06:31 PM
It does matter, the work of tunnels always required the tunnel to be fully enclosed, and that included a base. Please review the building of the tunnel in my thread, and notice the brick underlayment under the tracks.

It’s not very hard to get walls around your tunnels with the expansion packs. The old method would actually be extremely time consuming. Unless you do not have the expansion packs it’s probably not the way to go.

SullyNo, it doesn't matter because it looks perfectly fine without a base. Even if I added a base you wouldn't even know it was there. Not everything has to be your way. It's my game and I'll play it my way.

rylifox,

You have to notice this park was posted about two years ago. At that time the only way to created tunnels was with the method discussed in this thread. It was necessary to have the slab under the track at that time and according to how Sullivan built this park his answer is correct.

Things have changed since then with Soaked and Wild you no longer need to fully enclose the tunnel. With the way things work now you do not need the slab under the track. Prior to the expansion packs you would not have been able to use path tiles in a tunnel situation anyhow and neither of you would be correct.

I did not become the master on my own, Sullivan's park was a big inspiration for several things I have done since, and two major parks I built recently have subway systems which are directly inspired by this park. You lack the historical perspective to know what he is saying to you. Technically neither of you are wrong in the context you are discussing this from.

It is far easier now to build tunnels than it was when Mountain Park Resort was created. You have to respect trail blazers because a lot of what you see today is a result of input and effort from early game players whether it be the first custom scenery and importer or people who figured out how to use option.txt tricks to accomplish things most of us find very easy today.

When Sullivan built this park it was one of the most innovative uses of the old tunnel trick, it made this a stand out park. I still like it even though you can accomplish a lot of the same things faster and easier now I have gotten a lot of inspiration from this park.
