Maybe you should change it to a different color. It doesn't even need to be a dark color.

Thanks, the supports lean that way, because if they leaned the other way they would be in the hole where the dive coaster exits from underground. The coaster is from me and Liamrocks park, Wilderness Ridge.

Probably some of my favorite pics ive took. This is the crypt, has a nice little water feature. I just need to find some scenery that would look like the stone casket that you seen in crypts lol. im wanting some better statues too :( But this coaster is still the "Haunted" X-DR, the way that track goes i made it aim toward the waterfall and then around the bend the statues on either side. The track is starting to lead out to the cemetary. This is all underground though, its connected tot he great hall and then the cathedral thru stone tunnels, peeps will probably have access to this area as well.

i like the supports the best lol

^ Very nice, yellow, but I'm sorry, you can't open this park. In fact, everybody has to shut down their parks.

It has come to my attention that none of these parks have wheelchair access for the disabled, and none of the bathrooms have changing stalls for babies. Also, most of you are selling nothing but junk food to the kids, and you are paying your employees less than minimum wage. Lastly, many of you are not installing adequate first aid facilities in your parks and some of you are neglecting to hire security guards! For these reasons, everyone's license is revoked until their parks are brought up to Federal standards and code.

A senate subcomittee is holding hearings beginning in October. You will receive a summons very shortly and you must attend these public hearings. Those who fail to show will be held in contempt and jailed. Those who attend and are found in violation of the federal standards will be heavily fined.

A moratorium on park building is declared until the hearings have taken place. Anyone who violates this mandate will be jailed, fined, whipped, hung, drawn and quartered, and may even be subject to worse punishment -- forced to live on a diet of hotdogs, cotton candy, toffee apples, and soda pop for the rest of their lives.

Sincerely,

Lengo

Am I alone in getting a gigantic Zelda vibe?
I love pretty much everything about that ride... but I do have some suggestions.
For one thing, framing. Adding edges to the corners will add a lot more depth to the scene.
The only thing I didn't like though, was the supports. Yes, it does create a more adventurous in-depth experience, but I tend to prefer realism when it comes to the coaster itself. Still, just a suggestion either way.

I must say, you are certainly becoming one of my favorite creators.

Zudge, never mind the car train underwater. You captured the human element that is so often missing in these great screen shots! Your picture is outstanding in my opinion. There's a lot of heart in it.

Simodavid, that's a great concept. Make that into a park sign and hang it in your parks!

I'm gonna be honest here, your park building usually isn't bad, and has a certain charm to it, it's just that 'realistic' park looked like a novice rct park, and not in the least bit realistic.

--Griffon--
09-12-2009, 09:06 PM
That looks quite good, griffon. Are you ever going to make it into a park?

Out of the two computers in my house the one I use the most doesn't show Imageshack pictures, and that makes me sad when you post because I can't see them, but I
m assuming it's your new waterpark? I saw the thread and it looks very nice.

(Though I normaly go out of my way because they're worth it. :))

I'm planning on making it a small park, but it'll probably just be a track in a small area for now. I'm glad you like it!

grrt, much better than the previous. The blur ruined that one.
Plokoon, it looks very nice, but as with grrt's previous shot, I find it's the blur brought the quality down.

Now then...

The water park is back up in action...
There's a bit of an update, but probably not what's expected.

N747 - Your pictures always stand out for me :) The colours and the content are artistic but representative of the game still which is important to remind yourselves when you look at other drawdropping pieces ;)

Zudge - Those rocks look ugly to me but I wont critisize further because I can do any better :\ The lighting is gorgeous.

CTR - Is your name Rhian BTW? That wildwest town looks very accurate. Whats the giant mound in the back :p

Immelman - Looks fun. Maybe less photoshop ext time and cleverly apply filters to only certain bits? Because if its concept art IMO it wouldnt be blurred. it'd look accurate but not realistic...

MGP - A bit symmetrical and plain but I like how the peeps interact with it and the foliage is realistic enough too. What sets do you use othe those walls? they look new?

Lostthought - Gotta love the waterpark always. I'm just gonna pop down to your thread for more candy :D

^Call me CTRS or Rhian, CTRS is my initials, I hate being referred to as a custom tracked ride.... I was here first darnn it. The name of the ride in the background is "Hasta La Luna"

Simodavid= cute shot though whats in the background is far more interesting than whats in the foreground. Things I love... The pink roof in the back on the far far right, I didnt know you could get that color in RCT3, The multi colored abstract squares of the building in the far back behind the light house, and the smoke stacks. things I don't necessarily love... The swings, I dont think that it's platfrom really feels the same as the rest of the area, mabye if you added vines growing up the side of the concrete to break up the modern minimalistic feel that the brown and white creates, or playing with the ground just around the base, making a bank up about half way, with bushes or flowers on it. and I cant quite tell what direction the enterance to the ride is, from here it almost looks like it might be on the other side, you could solve that quick by creating a queue house. just noticed the repetition of the roofs on the large structure behind the swings, Ingenious i would have never thought of making one a larger version of the bell tower roofs using those pieces.

Zudge, do you realise how many polys are visible in that shot? What's your frame rate while looking at that? I bet it's far below 20!

Boris, why does it have to look realistic? Much of the appeal of a theme park is to escape reality. People go for entertainment, and the kind of entertainment they seek is escapism. And don't forget that there are all levels of park builders here, from novice to experts. Even novice's parks are noteworthy. THe assets that come with this game are limited, and people work with what they have. If you want to complain about non-realistic, complain about RCT3 itself! You don't have to use CS to post a picture here.

There's lots of good shots here, and they range from modern art like Seratonin's and n747's to dramatic like Terraform's, Belotto's, Czerskie's (sp?), Yellow's and others. And the contributions by novices are pretty darn good too! You never know who the author is, his age, or his level of experience. For all we know, a picture might be coming from a 10 year old! No matter! Everone has accomplished something here, and they post because they're proud of their work. What they seek is recognition. It's not difficult to encourage, so why don't we, as a community, encourage each other?

Honestly, I've stopped making parks. I have back and neck pain, and this prevents me from spending the required time (and thats a substantial amount of time). But I still come here to see what others have done, and I don't see any really bad shots. Not one! So lets put an end to the unsolicited advice and criticisms. Unless somebody asks for advice, offer up only encouragement or say nothing.

I see one thing missing here. I don't see any kiddie rides. Where are these? Where's the low intensity coasters with gumdrop trees and the likes of them? People can make 'dark rides' that aren't so dark. Let's see some, eh? Take the Lengo challenge -- make a short coaster that 5-6 year olds would find charming. But please! Don't remake the 'It's a Small World" ride. I HATE THAT SONG! :D I got it stuck in my head once, and it has never been removed. The horror!

In the meantime, here's something I cooked up.

http://www.iinet.com/~lengo/graphics/Moi-Zistic_01.jpg

This is an experiment using two CS sets. Unfortunately, the trees and paths don't look very good at night. The trees don't catch light (they refuse to reflect artificial light), and the path's turn 'upside down' -- the cobbles turn black and the background turns lighter. However, during the day, the paths and the cherry trees are superb! Dang! If only they'd work right at night!

The sets are Moki's Tangram Gardens and Xistic's Garden of Eden. The lamps are from Vodhin's Lighting Kit v2 (this is MOST VERSATILE).

Try defragging your disk and make sure you have no unnecessary apps running in your system tray. That may help. Also, theres a free program calle CCleaner that will clean your registry and eliminate zero byte files from your disk, history, and lots of unnecessary junk that gets accumulated whcih slows down your system. You can Google 'CCleaner' to find it. Is very helpful at keeping your system running mean and clean.

Dreamdancer, I'm gonna ask anyway. Flying Aardvark? :D Moreover, how'd you come up with that brilliant name? Is great! I needed a lugh, and that did it for me.

I designed a similar coaster. It too is pink. It also looks much like your design. Mine is made from the Corkscrew Coaster. Yours?

Well, I like aardvarks, and "The Aardvark" wasn't enough for me. I don't know why I decided to go with the Flying Aardvark. Maybe because I was using the Suspended Swinging coaster for it. That, and it was just something different (believe me, aardvarks are as different as you can get!)

Oh! I dunno! Have you ever seen a wet opossum? Now they're different, and they're really really UGLY! They're even uglier when they're wet!

It always amazes me when I see a nature program. Life comes in just about every shape imaginable. I would NOT be surprised to one day see an aardvark with wings.

Don't count on that. We cut 'em down. If they could use guns, there would probably be a lot of dead people in the forests! :D

Now see here --

http://www.iinet.com/~lengo/graphics/waterfall02.jpg

This pic shows some of Old Spice's waterfalls. On the left are his, on the right is the in-game. His set includes 1 hgh, 2 high, 3 high, and 4 high. Shown are 'tops'. There are also bottoms (straight, no bend at the top). Also included are diagonals! Ponds are not required. These are very versatile! Unfortuately, ther is no sound, and I have failed at making a looping sound for a loudspeaker. I can make the sound loop in Winamp's player, but not in RCT3.

Also shown are parts from Old Spice's Asian set. THIS ONE IS WROCKIN'!

I will (hopefully) soon make a real area that includes both his waterfalls and his Asian set. I'm pretty excited about this!

It's David Walsh. He's been angered by the thousands of wannabes that we created.

Leveskocka, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but the best part of that picture is the hill/cliff face. It is epic.
I feel like I should see some great Greek/Roman architecture sitting atop it, such as the Parthenon, only grander.

Ya I tried that . If you want to add about 3 walls worth of polys , I was trying to make it so 'my' computer could make a bigger city.

LostThought15
09-16-2009, 07:13 PM
And that's perfectly fine. I wasn't sure how much of a difference it would make (I'm far from a specialist in CS) and I figured your heavy metal set had about the same amount of detail.

I guess my only real crit. would be to add floors to the building, so they don't look quite as hollow. Then again though, if it's a large city you're going for, that's a detail that can be added later if possible.

Terraform
09-16-2009, 07:33 PM
This was just a test . These 4 buildings 4 sides showed no noticable slow down. Probably less polys than the in-game stuff .
My plan is to make tall jutting square posts to run up these walls for depth. It will keep the polys low , better preformance , but give a better 3d look , I will add some floor sections of differant sizes to the set.

RocknGuitar, that looks quite nice. I just have a few suggestions...
The in-game spooky trees are just horrid. I find it wrecks that shot, especially when it's so closely placed near Marnetmar's dead tree.

As for the rocks, I think they can be improved upon. As I see it, the key to a great rock usage is a mixture of sets. I personally think that set, mixed with Shyguy's Lichenstone would work quite nicely. However, if you're going for more of a Disney-esque feel, composerboy's set works nicely if you're trying for the fake-rock look.

Liam, your work is always quite nice, but I just feel that picture is a bit too 'busy.'
I'm personally not a big fan of colored pathway edging... but that really depends on perspective.
The plants seem somewhat repetitive, especially on the left.
I like the attempt at continuity with the lifesavers, but the piece itself is eyecatching, so the four of them are a bit overpowering.
I also think the center building could go with a color change.
Water Parks thrive by offering a way to cool off during the summer, so I think 'cooler' colors would work a lot better.

Sorry if I seem overly critical, I just no what you can do, and want to see you become even better.

RocknGuitar, well done! Looks like all it needs is Robin Hood!

Seratonin, now this one I REALLY like. It looks oriental and at the same time, like 30s Art Deco.

Sushy, that looks like Disney's Peter Pan ride. Good job. That brings back some memories.

It's David Walsh. He's been angered by the thousands of wannabes that we created.

Yeah, I thought that way when I looked at it at first too. It might be the large peep count, or trees, but I think it might just be the mix of both in one picture. The plants I place at random, so it is really weird to see such a pattern, quick fix though. The center building is like that, because there is a light blue building, blue path trim, blue benches, a blue fence, blue roves, and blue lockers near it. I wanted to make it hot so it would stand out from the rest of the image. With the amount of blue in the scene, it didn't feel right adding more to it. Thanks for the comment too!

All of Old-Spice's sets are nice, and you can easily make a very nice picture with them, you could even make the littlest effort to cover up the blocky and a little less appealing in-game 'cliffs'.

^^ For an overall description of your park, I would say that your colors don't flow. I see red roofs in one area split right next to it into an area with green roofs! It looks cool but it can annoy me. Otherwise, great use of scenery I like all the buildings and such.

n747
09-18-2009, 09:49 PM
...cause red and green don't flow? No, they're complements of one another, meaning that to have balance in a shot, you must use the main color's complement: Red.

Complement (n) - c. Either of two parts that complete the whole or mutually complete each other.

Red and Green are complements of one another, Orange and Blue, Yellow and Purple. I don't know about you, but I see a very balanced composition.

grrt
09-18-2009, 09:52 PM
I see balance, yes they compliment. But that isn't always what I like best, two practical opposites next to each other. I like a flow and blend of many colors. Of course it is a great shot, and the red and green do work nicely together, but that doesn't always work on such huge scales.

To put it simply. Disneyland. There is a huge contrast in the areas from Frontierland or Tomorrowland or the main street. The park looks awesome. But it doesn't have a flow through itself. You get what I'm saying? If not then just ignore me.
