Kings Dominion is my "home" park so I have been recreating it. It takes along time and I think I'm ready to share a couple of images. I'm new at adding screenshots so I hope I have it right. By hte way, good luck recreating hypersonic XLC. youd have to change it alot for it to be RCT-compatible

XLC, Just use a Hyper twister coaster with a launch, you can do so much more with it.

Looking good - and it's a park I'd recognize since I go at least once every other summer. The main tower looks spot on!

One thing - I'd suggest getting the rides in first, then worry about the shops, buildings, etc.. I've seen lots of people put a ton of work into the structures, and after the rides were added, it went all downhill due to lag. It's lass painful and makes more sense to leave out a restaurant rather then a main attraction if frame rates begin to cry. I hope you can pull this off - we need a good KD!

Wow, looks like an incredible recreation! I would have ben able to visit this park in real-life a few years back when my family and I went to virginia. We were asked to choose between Kings Dominion or Busch Gardens Williamsburg. We chose Busch Gardens :p. Ahh well, looks ike now I'll be able to get a vitual tour of the park I never got to visit :D.

LOL that exact thing happend to me but we went to Kings Dominion.^^

For Hypersonic XLC I used a twister coaster and made the layout a lot more like it and for the towers under the hill I used the launched freefall rides, its in my Six Flags World Tour park in my sig.

The park looks GREAT so far!

Kings Dominion is one of my favorite parks. Since I live so close, I go there more than Six Flags America or Hershey Park. Personally, those two don't even compare to KD. From these screenshots I have seen, you have the various aspects of the park down to a tee. Keep up the good work. This could be the virtual tour of a lifetime for all you west coast people that may never get to experience KD anytime soon.

Cool... My home park.

I was debating on working on this one just today.

It's probably too late, but it'd be great if you could get a little landscaping in. Instead of an all flat park.

From what I remember PKD is fairly flat, kinda runs steadily downhill from the eiffel tower on back.

moo2172
07-20-2005, 09:14 AM
I have some of the landscaping in . It goes downward at the entrance to the Nickolodeon, thekidzvilles/scooby area, and going into the grove. I wanted to do more but I found it very difficult to get it to look right.

madmab
07-20-2005, 07:58 PM
Well when you make it available maybe I'll tinker with it a little bit. The terrain tools are not exactly the easiest things to get used to.

Basically like I said. From the eiffel tower to candy grove (is that still the name)? Is a steady down hill then it levels out (from the safari side all the way to wayne's world), the water park (which I'm not really familar with) is in a little valley. I dont have a clue about the water stuff on the other side of the rebel yell.

Over where the volcano and avalanche are the hills get fairly steep. Other than that the park is pretty straightforward (luckily). I really feel for anyone who attempts Busch Gardens in VA cause that is one hilly park.

What would be cool is to have a retro version with the volcano replaced with the "time machine", "haunted mansion", "land of the doozies", and that little "Mt. Kilamajaro" that was next to the time machine.

The paratroopers was also over on that side somewhere. Now it is across from the grizzly. Although from looking at a current map it almost looks like they closed it.

Then of course where the shockwave is used to be "the galaxy" and one of those slide things (in soaked). Across from the shockwave used to be "the octopus" (now in soaked, sorta). In fact I think next to it was the zipper (I forget the old name). They moved that thing so many times. :haha:

The nickelodeon stadium I believe used to be some type of dolphin/water show and of course we cannot forget the sky ride.

Ahhhhh memories...

Whoops almost forgot the king cobra (used to be where the anaconda was) and of course with the "Wild!" expansion pack the old safari could be recreated although I "barely" remember it.

Best I can tell (hard to tell at the angle of the shot) the scooby ghost coaster looks pretty on target. Boy I miss the old colors (green).. :haha:

I had a recreation going in RCT2, but a few mishaps and a major change in my life's direction caused it to be lost.

Anyways dont worry about use PKD'ers just keep doing what your doing. I've been to that park most of my life and it's great to see someone working on it.

PKD is my home park too. Truely a nice park if you've never been to it. It's in Doswell, Virginia if you ask. 12 Coaster, but if you count in the Rebel Yell racing coaster it make it to 13 coasters. Tons of thrill rides like Drop Zone and Tomb Raider: Firefall. That RCT3 recreation of PKD is looking good moo2172. I look forward to downloading it. I wish they had real Tomb Raider: Firefall themeing in the game... That would be sweet! Again, nice job and keep up the good work!

rephrase my response:

Yes Kings Dominion was one of three parks that were filmed in the making of this film. The Rebel Yell was the coaster at PKD that was featured. It was also Helen Hunt's first movie appearance.

And yes, Revolution was in the movie as well.

FYI, the 3rd park was the defunct Ocean View Park in Virginia. The coaster centerpiece there was the "Rocket"

Love the park, but heres some tips

1. The drop on Shockwave is a WHOLE lot stepper. And I can't see it now, but there is a HUGE straight away at the top of the lift on shockwave, so dont be afraid to do that, its natural for the ride.

2. Is that even Togo Standup track? It looks like a Shwartzerpof Standard looping track.

Everything else is friggin awesome!

Six Flags dosn't make generic and boring coasters. Raging Bull, Nitro, Kingda Ka, Iron Wolf, Goliath, Vertical Velocity, Batman & Robin: The Chiller, Riddler's Revenge, Jokers Jinx, Two Face, Wile One.

Volcano is boring. I could sleep through that ride. Hurler is actually smooth for a wooden roller coaster. Now the Grizzly. Now that was rough until they put a brake on the second hill (wimps).

Six Flags uses generic coasters all the time. The riddler's revenge is just "flight of fear" except outside. Rides like two faced I've seen in all kinds of parks with a similar layout. Batman is probably the most cloned ride in six flags. I was mostly thinking Six flags in maryland which is a reasonable comparison since they are both close to eachother. Not everybody can go to parks around the states. Alot of the rides you mentioned are not in that park.

To compare PKD to six flags in general (as your list would suggest) would be silly because PKD is just one park. As for six flags in NJ and GA, those parks are actually pretty nice. So I was mainly using six flags MD as a comparison.

Someone needs to get there Six Flags Rides Correct. Jokers Jinx is the LIM one, Riddler Revenge is a TOTALLY Custom Stand-Up B&M. There are only 3 Two-Face type rides in America, and they are evenly distributaed across the United States (It's an Inverted Boomerang, not a Standard). BATMAN AND ROBIN: THE CHILLER! NOT Batman: The Ride....theres a difference. And when was the last time you went to PKD? Hurler, makes me wanna hurt, it gives me bruises. I think your to afraid to ride Volcano... ;) Thats why you think its boring.

NOT Batman: The Ride....theres a difference. And when was the last time you went to PKD? Hurler, makes me wanna hurt, it gives me bruises. I think your to afraid to ride Volcano... ;) Thats why you think its boring.

ANYWHO! It's coming along great. Keep it up :)

I wasn't going solely off of your list. I was naming rides that I know are clones. The two face is so similar too other coasters I've ridden in other parks it's hardly worth pointing out any minor differences. There is a coaster in ocean city MD very similar to it, and one in hershey park PA.

Batman is what I meant anyways (not the chiller) and yeah your right I meant Jokers Jinx (it's been a while), but regardless it's nothing new. Talk about a ride that beats you up, Jokers Jinx and Flight of Fear both do. Although it looks like they replace the shoulder restraints with lap bars, according to the rcdb.

Like I said six flags MD aint nothing special. The mind bender is ok, but it's too short. The only other good coasters are the wooden ones. Never tried superman, it was broke down when I went. Yes the man of steel needed to be fixed. :haha: Batwing.. :o

Like I said though Six Flags NJ and GA are cool. I had a chance to go to the one in california about 20 years ago but I blew it. Just one of those days.

I rode the volcano two or three times and it was not worth the 2hr wait. It's a boring ride, period. I probably woulda rode it more if it didn't break down so much! :p I've gone to PKD for nearly 20 years straight at least, so yeah I'm VERY familar with that park and all the changes it went thru throughout all the years.

Mind Bender...? Mind Eraser maybe? That is the worst ride there. And the ones at Ocean City and Hershey are Standard Vekoma Boomerangs. AKA Head bangers. The Vekoma Inverted Shuttle, is yest the same layout, But the seats face each other, and they are inverted, and its smooth as glass. That's what Two Face is, and there are only two other Inverted Boomerang Coasters in America (Besides the Giant Inverted Boomerangs). And Joker's Jinx and FOF, have both had there restraints removed to lap bars, and both been repainted so the ride is also smooth as glass. Roar pretty much sucks, its almost as rough as Hurler. But Wild One is great. I prefer Batwing over B&M Flyers anyday. :D

Obviously our tastes differ. I absolutely love the roar. :haha: And yes I meant the mind eraser (whoops). But really... two face and even dejavu are not worth waiting in line for an hour for 20 seconds of fun. Please note that I also said the OC and HP rides were "similar" to the two face, not clones.

Here is a short list I came up with just perusing the rcdb.

[Six Flags - just america and georgia (I got lazy)]
Batwing - (X-flight geauga lake)
Batman the ride - 7 parks (+6 other parks)
Blackbeard's Lost Treasure Train - 2 parks (+24 other)
Déjà Vu (indeed) - 3 parks (1 other park) (too similar to two face for my tastes)
Great chase - 3 parks (+11 other parks)
Joker's Jinx - 2 parks (aka flight of fear, Mad Cobra, Poltergeist)
Mind Eraser - 4 parks (+20 other parks)
Roar - 2 parks
Superman - Ride Of Steel - 3 parks
Superman - Ultimate Flight - 3 parks
Two-Face - (+5 other parks)

[King's Dominion]
Flight Of Fear - 4 other parks
Grizzly - 2 parks
Hurler - 2 parks
Hypersonic (not sure about this but there is only so much you can do with this design)
Rebel Yell - 2 parks (at least)
Richochet - 2 parks
Scooby Doo - 4-5 parks
Shockwave - 3 parks
Taxi Jam - 4 parks (kiddie ride)

[Carowinds]
Rugrat's runaway Reptar - 4 parks (3 other parks)
Top Gun - 2 parks
Vortex - 2 parks

Anyways once paramount purchased KD in my humble opinion their coasters have gotten worst, but that's just me. I obviously love wooden coasters. Don't get my wrong steel is nice, but sometimes I like to "FEEL" the ride.

SF and Paramount Parks are both franchise operations, so quite often both "parents" will build similar rides at the same time in both.

What makes Paramount better in my book is that each of their parks have more "signature" or rides, like KI has Beast and Son of Beast.
Having gone to three Paramount Parks almost in succesion on one vacation, I rode everything in all of them.
Carowinds and PKD both have the hurler and Outer Limits Flight of Fear is duped at KI and PKD. Other than that the rest of the rides in any of the three are unique to their park.

SF dupes far more rides in all their park sooner or later, if not simultaeneously, very quikly after each other.

Yeah I miscounted the number by one, but I think my point was made. ;)

Skipper put it well as always. But another thing to keep in mind is there are more six flag parks than paramount parks. Hence more likely clones. But I'd take PKD over Six Flags America any day.

My list was not even complete anyways cause I only covered two six flag parks. I'm sure it would be alot larger if I did em all. Then there are other parks that are less prone to clones that I coulda mentioned like hershey park, and the busch garden parks.

One thing I did notice when perusing the databases is wooden coasters tend to be more unique (either that or hard to trace). Dup's are usually rare.

That I would have to agree. Except SFA Does still have some great coasers, but PKD makes the experience way better.

Let's get back on topic about the PKD recreation, then hopefully someone will do an SFA recreation as well.

What's the status on this recreation?I hope it'll be done soon so I can download it.

It'd be kinda hard to do a good SFA recration since some rides are still missing,we're still missing the alpine bobs, rodeo & tilt a whirl(coming in wild) & the roto-shake as well but other than that we've got most of the other rides needed already.

Finally we've got a chaos in the game when sadly SFA is getting rid of theirs! .

I am still working on it. it is very slow going, first because recreations take forever to get right, and second i have a 3 year old that takes up most of my time. i will keep posting as i get more done. Thanks for checking out my recreation!

That's fine take your time on it,just don't keep us waiting too long.

Most of the time when folks set out to make recreations of the quality that yours is they usually give up after a while,I'd sure hate to see that happen in your case becasue you've done a marvelous job of recreating this park....good luck on HS:XLC & V:TBC,you're gonna need it with those rides.

An interesting thing I noticed was that the paths seem to have oddly shaped corners in some spots....is that a specially edited path that we'll have to download or not?

No, I havent used any creator items or edits. The corners act weird sometimes when the land next to it is slightly raised.

Looking good so far,IIRC that patio is where the apple turnover (enterprise) used to operate.

Too bad I never got to ride it back in the day, that along with KK,Galaxi & time shaft were the four main thrillers that I was either too chicken or didn't meet the height restrictions to go on.

One thing I do recall is an incident where some idiot locked the keys in the trunk of the car,I swear we were the very last ones out of the parking lot that night.

KK... that doesnt ring a bell, are you talking about king cobra?

Galaxi was a cool ride one of the family favorites but boy did that kill you with the brakes at the end.

Timeshaft was similar to the ride in RCT3 (revolution? I think). It was just placed in side a mountain.

Apple turnover was a pretty fun ride when I first tried it I thought for sure I'd get sick. My brother was not so lucky though.

Probably becasue Air Power is limited to turns and the tower. if you are going for the look you could use that but for correct layout and feel. what he used works great

Your absolutely right. The air coaster just doesnt have the flexibility to create the ride to my liking. The coaster I used is from the wild expansion and it allows me to get close enough to the real thing and still allow me to create the scenery around it. Thanks for the comments!
