Hello everyone, I'm new to the "exchange" scene. I've been around for a while reading all your posts, seeing all your parks. and well I feel it's about time that I contribute. Constructive criticism is greatly appreciated and frankly, I need everyone's help to try and make my park a better one. I've come to you today with my very own creation of Privet Drive from the very popular Harry Potter. my park "WB Studios" will be home to rides that well have to do with WB movies. The Matrix and harry potter for example. maybe even the new T3 (I liked it better when universal did them, but anyway ) the point is my first ride in my harry potter section.. aside from the obvious "Hogwarts Express" was to make a rollercoaster that depicts when Harry was picked up by Ron in his tiny flying car.Later followed by the scene where harry and ron fly over the train in hopes to catch up with everyon on the way back to hogwarts. This was my novice attempt at doing so. So anyone with positive and negative comments please feel free to instruct me on how to create the ride better. Thank you all :)

If ANYONE can figure out a better way to make this bridge I would be in great debt to that person.
for the life of me I couldn't make a curved bridge look decent while still using the arches. I'm pretty picky and new at this "advanced theming" thing but all things concidered it looks "okay"... I think.. lol
----------------------------------
Oddly enough, while captureing the video and taking some screens for this post I found that there was a shark stuck in my rollercoaster. how he got there I have no clue, but it was too good to pass up so I had to take some screenies. Any ideas on how he got there ? he's not a scenery piece is he ?

Well everyone finally the video of the ride. Its compressed to around 8MB. On a final note, if anyone has any ideas for WB movie themed rides that I could create please come forward. I'd love to hear your ideas. Thanks again everyone.

That is truly amazing. Fantastic. It sure would make a good ride, nice theming, nice atmosphere, and especially the shark.

Wow! This park is EXTREMELY tight to the movie setting! I love it! :D

For the flying car, you could set the track draw distance to zero so it would actually be 'flying'.

And that shark, is he suicidal???

LOL at that shark!

Another bug I suppose. Maybe post that in the official bug report post. I notice a lot of really dumb things in soaked like people walking on water etc...

As far as your park, I am not a fan of Harry Potter at all but that is a very good job and your screen shots are extreamly close to the movie stills. Not sure what I could tell you to make it any better! Nice job!

Lovely scenery youve got there, is like the one of the movie. Well done!:D Privet Drive looks Superb, is this a zone or only a ride, because it looks very big to be a ride?

BTW, that shark is hylarious, is like when me peeps started floating through the air various feet above the terrain. I discovered that when they got to the slide, instead of being thrown they started to walk. :D . An that shark is not suicidal, he only awaits for the trains to pass and eat its passengers!!!!!:D

First I'd like to thank all of you for the positive responses. As far as the ride goes. its part of a "bigger picture" while the rollercoaster does seem rather large, it it part of an entire 'harry potter" section. my next project is to include a quidditch field and possibly hogwarts itself. Which of course I will need some help and guidance. here is a final shot of my privet drive at night and a shot of the rollercoaster with the hogwarts express on the tracks....don't forget to watch the video..

I thought I might mention something... don't Ron and Harry go to the hogwarts station before trying to catch the train and go to hogwarts(maybe I missed it in the movie...did I?). Anywayz, great work!:)

Ct1436
07-08-2005, 02:04 PM
yes, your absolutley correct. but I figured it would be over kill to create a station for the car to pass by, seeing as the rollercoaster was already 2:30 min + . it would have been nice to include that part in the ride but my building structure skills are limited. lol If more people feel its something I should do, I'll be more than happy to put it in, but for now what I REALLY need help with is creating the Quidditch Field. :noob:

Great ! .. now.. only one problem.. I can't use saved custom buildings in my park. I've reinstalled serveral times. believe it or not I had to build each of those houses one at a time. evertime I would save the custom building and try to place it. the game would crash straight to the desktop :bored: annoying and frustrated I started to build everyone piece by piece. I would be able to open the saved park file and immitate your creation, but I would not be able to just place it in my park... how do you think we could work this out ? ... new expansion pack and already it has its own set of problems.. :(

maybe u can do the lines on the quidditch field with the monrail track pieces to give them a smoother look ... i dunno if u still see the track, if u dig it 1 tile deep into the ground.

i build the lines from the statium of my park (playa estupenda) that way ... maybe it works for you too.

btw. this is the first time i like harry potter;) :D

well latley I've been doing some web design work so I've had to wait untill the weekends so actually get any RCT work done, that and a girlfriend and my time gets all spent. lol I'll take one out soon of the entrance of my park and some quidditch field stuff. oh wow. Thank you SO much that looks SUPERB ! it looks HUGE ! , its a shame that I cannot use custom buildings in my park. for some reason or another whenever I use custom structures i crash to the desktop, it is quite annoying. you can imagine how time consuming making just 4 very small houses by comparison took me to make. I will however closly examine the building in the custom building tool where I AM able to import building and try my best to reproduce it.. unless someone can fix my game. but wow.. that was simply amazin workmanship. GREAT videos by the way ... I bow down to your masterfulness. is that even a word ? lol

Wow!!!!!!!

I'm working on a Harry Potter park right now and I'm about 2/3 making an Escape from Privet Drive ride. I have my entrance to the ride through #4 and the end of the ride is at the Ron's house (the Burrow).

Now that I see the amazing job you've done on your Privet drive, it makes me embarassed for mine. I really like what you've done. Great attention to detail!

I especially like the way you stepped the homes back.

Great Job!!!!

If you want to take a look at my Hogwarts castle from the park, I have a few pictures posted in the Soaked screen shots.

Good job. I can't wait to see more.

Thanks,

Just watched your ride video and (Also) Wow. That's awsome. It has a great sense of soaring along. I like how you were able to create it so that it had the sense you were always flying just above the tree tops.

I can't say this enough, I think your level of detail on Privet Drive s great. I'm going to rip down my own privet drive and rebuild it using yours as inspiration. (If that's okay with you.)

I notice that the photos of the movie sets have leaded windows for privet drive and we don't have any such option in our scenery. I wanted to have leaded windows in my great hall at Hogwarts, so I worked out a little trick. After placing the window into the building, select either the pirate fence scenery or the chain link fence scenery. If you place either of these fences on the inside wall of your window, it gives the effect of leaded windows. I haven't tried it with the windows you used here, but I really liked the effect on the ones I did.

Again, GREAT JOB!

Well folks, sorry for the long absence , I've had alot of things to deal with and unfortunatly RCT3 had to fall behind.
I did however almost completed my version of the Quidditch Field. Here are some screens. Feedback is VERY welcome.

As you can see here, It's looks quite a bit "stretched" out, I blame it on the fact I did it to "scale"

This is what I've decided to use for the the Tops of the towers.

Thats all for now , how am I doing so far ?
any suggestions on how to make this thing look more circular ?
any suggestions on how to replace the middle field lines instead of using the monorail tracks ?
Hopefully I'll have more during the week, and I still need help decided what ride to house on the site of the field..
what type of rollercoaster should I use ? :)

I like your quidditch (sp?) field. Clearly a lot of detail went into it. I especially like that you showed the structural supports on the back side (by the tent).

I haven't worked on my own quidditch field yet, but I had some ideas I was going to try out and you're welcome to use them if you'd like.

I wanted it to look like there were people in the stands watching the game. Is it possible to sink some of the mannequin scenery into the slanted black tiles of your tower seats to make it look like there are people there. I don' t know if this is possible, or, even if it is, if it will look good, but it was something I was going to explore.

As for your field, using the monorail track is a VERY creative way to get the circle at the center. The only other technique I've used is sinking a white wall down into the ground so just the top is showing. But i think that would create a smaller scale than what you're working with.

I like your quidditch posts. What did you use for circles at the tops? What did you use for the posts?

What about sand under the quidditch goals? You could use the shape of the sand to help create the illusion of a curved field.

Just some ideas if you want to try them. But I think it looks great already.

I'm curious why are you making it a WB park and filling it with HP? I know HP movies are made by WB, but it seems like you could make an all HP park pretty spectacular on its own.

thanks.

well, I still havn't completed the tops of the towers, as soon as I do that ( one by one... its a bit annoying ) then the sand colored ground was going to be a few of the deatails I was going to add. I'll give the people in the stands idea a try and see how it looks. I used the letter "o" from the custom scenery , klinn i believe his name is. and i just used the posts from the marble set i believe... as far as the park name.. I do plan on adding more WB themed areas, like the matrix for example. I'm still thinking of other good WB movies I could put in, twister perhaps ? still debating. HP is great and a park on just that would be nice, but i've already got the color scheme and hotels and parking lots at the entrance of my park to go with the whole WB theme.. which I will have to post eventually because it was the first portion of the park I completed but never got around to showing anyone. lol Thank you for all your positive feedback. anymore requests on what type of coaster I should have on the QField ?

Hello, CT1436!

I do like the looks of your quidditch pitch (that's what the field for that game is called in the book series).

It needs several new scenery sets to complete:

SPORTS FIELDS--lines, circles, goals, balls, equipment, and athletes
HARRY POTTER QUIDDITCH SET--lines, ring goal posts, balls, players on brooms, ...ETC..
OLD-TYME HERALDICA--flags, pennants, shields, statues, and such ilk

The pitch looks fine as is; try staggering sections of the granstands perimeter to approximate the 'ovalness' of the field. Recoloring the end zones with the sand in the landscape tool would also help.

I'd set food stands, souvenir shops, and facilities nearest the stadium (nothing but the quidditch stuff inside the stadium--though); thrill and gentle flat rides could occupy the perimeter outside of the stands and facilities away from the quidditch pitch (try to place only a few tracked/coaster rides within that vincinity).
You may also request assistance from MidwestBoyInLA at RCT*Mart.
Thank You!

Well Parkhop, first i'd like to thank you on your supportive look on my field, are the three sets that you mentioned custom sets available for download ? I wasn't even aware they existed to be honest, I appreciate the level of detail that your suggesting im implement on the design, but i'm pretty much a novice, this is my first time trying to actually " build" things for my park. so with that said I'm pretty proud of my first time accomplishments. If you guys would like to contribute to the park I"d be more than happy to implement any designs that you might have.. feel free to PM me or mail them to me if you like, Also, if anyone has any information on where I can find "The Matrix" themed items, let me know, afterall this is WB Studios, not harry potter park. lol Thanks again to everyone for their support.
