Just a note to everyone who might be interested:

The Ride Backdrops pack

and the Top Gun pack *updated Friday 29 July*

are now up for download!

Feedback on both packs would be appreciated!

Okay, so it wasn't funny.

I sort of forgot to note a couple of things:

*The ride backdrops were designed to be placed behind attractions that are not more than four grid squares wide. They won't look so well behind larger rides, sorry to say, but how you use them is strictly up to you :) I may expand this pack later, if there's a serious demand for larger backdrops.

*Beta testers for the Top Gun pack had a bit of trouble sorting out how the parts of the control tower went together. If this problem carries over into the public release, I'll post an image or two that should be helpful.

Did you design those aircraft? They look good, I'll have to download them tomorrow.

07-19-2005, 08:31 PM
It all looks great, except there's one slight problem with the ride backdrops. You used black, and black won't conduct light in RCT3, so if you placed a lamp next to them, they'd still appear black. I suggest using a dark gray instead of black next time.

But still a good job.

I have to admit, the F14 was a slightly-modified freebie download. Everything else was my own.

And WalkingSnake, on the black thing...I learned that a little too late. I re-textured the F5 a dark gray to avoid the black problem but I never went back and re-worked the textures for the ride backdrops. I may have to re-release...

I love the Top Gun Set. I was in High School when that movie came out and it was Iceman this and Maverick that and it got realy old really fast. Thanks for the pack it is a cool flashback to a fun-hearted movie. Now we just need to build some cool rollercoasters to sit next to it so we can feel the need for speed!!! LOL

On the other pack...can you change the pictures on the screens?

Keep up the great work!!!

07-19-2005, 08:59 PM
Unfortunately, I know of no way that the end user can change the pics on the screens. Suggestions are welcome for an expanded version of the pack, though, so if you have a pic you want to see on a picture, hit me with it and I'll see what I can do.

(Note: If I get too many PMs with pictures, this "open house" won't last!)

07-19-2005, 09:06 PM
Beautiful looking work, Drucifer!

I am in complete awe of your texture-mapping skills - wow! :)

07-19-2005, 09:16 PM

Texture mapping isn't so daunting once you make your mind up to do it. Do you use MAX or some other 3D software?

EDIT: Almost forgot the real reason I came here to post!

The ride backdrops have been updated to include absolute zero of the color zero zero zero (I got rid of the black, per WalkingSnake's suggestion). The pack has been re-submitted to my oh-so-generous host...I'll let you know when the update is ready for download.

07-19-2005, 10:40 PM
The updated Ride Backdrops theme has been uploaded for anyone that needs it, sorry about the delay, but I was out for awhile tonight & just got back & got the message.

07-19-2005, 10:52 PM
Downloaded these and just tried them out...

In the ride backdrops pack... the Timberwolf picture in the scenery item is not the same as the one in the icon for the picture. Not a huge deal, just thought I'd point that out.

The Viper backdrop, I cannot place. No matter where in the park I try to place it, raised, lowered, whatever, wherever... it cannot be placed and remains red with one red square beneath it.

Now, this was from the first pack listed in the first post... I'm downloading the update that Marnetmar just posted.. so, I'll try again.

07-19-2005, 11:06 PM
Okay, redownloading and reinstalling the pack did not provide any different results:

http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/3931/backdropbug9oa.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)

The board on the left illustrates just the difference in image from the icon to the actual scenery piece.

The red-out board on the right is an attempt to place the Viper backdrop.

07-19-2005, 11:11 PM
The 2 different pics are because the icon pic was the original texture drucifer was going to use. I gave him the one that's actually on the prop to use, I guess he forgot to update the icon.

I'm not sure why that one prop isn't working, I haven't had the chance to test them yet myself, but I'm sure he'll get it fixed very soon.

07-19-2005, 11:27 PM
Marnetmar: Thanks for the quick upgrade!

That explanation is 100% correct--I changed textures but forgot to change icons. A quick fix.

And as for the board that won't place...I have no idea. It places fine in my test park. I probably set the "Size in squares" wrong in the importer. Will keep you posted.

Thanks everyone for the feedback...

Man those predator, and alien signs are cool! What are backdrops?

Ride backdrops are like the one pictured in this thread: http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=465399

Unfortunately, I lack the time and talent to airbrush the images, so I did what I could with found pics.

I've updated the pack, and once I get it uploaded the Viper backdrop will work correctly. Silly thing insisted it was 1X1 rather than 1X4...who am I to argue?
The timberwolf icon has been corrected also.
The current link will still lead to the old defective pack! I'll keep you informed about the availability of the update.

Thanks all for your patience!

07-20-2005, 12:44 AM
All set now, I checked the Viper backdrop & it worked fine for me ;)

Same link as before:

07-20-2005, 12:48 AM
Oh man! I can think of a million uses for that python backdrop! AWESOME! :D

07-20-2005, 01:34 AM
Great stuff!!! My hat's off to all you guys who make these mini expansion packs. Who needs Frontier! Well, maybe theirs are a little better....

*Beta testers for the Top Gun pack had a bit of trouble sorting out how the parts of the control tower went together. If this problem carries over into the public release, I'll post an image or two that should be helpful. This might be helpful.

Also... It would be REALLY cool if the top gun pieces were colorable. Then they could be much more versatile!

07-20-2005, 02:17 AM
Okay, the pictures that should help you get the tower pieces sorted:

First, here's a completed 4X4-grid control tower...

...and then here's a cutaway view showing how the tower bits line up...

The elements in this pack aren't recolorable because, at the time I modeled them, I had no way of making recolorable objects. The importer supplies color palettes for Photoshop and Corel, but I use Paint Shop Pro. :)
(I have since figured out how to create a color palette with the proper colors, so I may have a go at recolorable gizmos now).

Thanks for the awesome feedback, everyone!

07-20-2005, 05:46 AM
This is absolutly fantastic!!!! I  It!!!

With the Top Gun theme its made an awsome addition to my park! thanks!!!! Also The backdrops look great over paths with a s**t loada trees around theme! Reminds me of busch gardens for some reason. How about a few more ride signs. Say like just basic ones but we could use. E.g Big Dipper, Python etc. Caffeens letter set is good but it would be better to have them as one sign. Thanks

"take my breath awayyyyyyy!"

07-23-2005, 04:29 PM

Recently updated the Top Gun Pack with the following:

*missiles added to the wingtips of the MiG-28

*fixed a texture problem with the MiG-28 that caused a red streak on the back of the fuselage

*changed the name strings on the MiG-28 ladder and landing gear to the appropriate name, rather than "F-5"

The same link as above now contains the updated .zip file.

Thanks jonwil for the update suggestions, and thanks everyone else for the great feedback!

PLEASE NOTE: The Top Gun Pack was updated to solve a minor flaw that had no effect on gameplay. The update now causes a crash in the game. An update that makes things go from bad to worse? I should work for a real software company!

Anyhow, once this is fixed and I have THOROUGHLY tested it, I'll post a nifty new message letting everyone know that the pack is really really working for real, no nonsense.

Thanks all for you patience.

07-23-2005, 08:33 PM
These look great. can't wait to try out the backdrops.

I forgot i hadnt posted in here. I love the Top Gun pack! It goes perfectly with my Top Gun coaster. One thing I noticed though is that you cant get the Top Gun sign's background colors to match with the rest of the hanger walls. Other than that, the pack is perfect.

CK the Fat
07-25-2005, 08:33 PM
I already have a ride in a hanger using this scenery. I'll get a pic out soon of it, if you want. Great job!

07-30-2005, 12:17 AM
I'd love to see the pic, CK! Post it!

The very latest (and I think very last) update version of the Top Gun Theme Pack is now available, so that everyone can update.

SOME USERS MAY HAVE DOWNLOADED A PACK THAT SUFFERS FROM A CRASH BUG! The new one, which is now available, will fix that bug, along with a few other minor items from the scenery itself.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

07-30-2005, 12:20 AM
Woh theres a ride with a Predator theme, I mean im a fan of Aliens And predators, starwars and rcty3, so thats alsome!

07-30-2005, 12:50 AM
Glad to see an updated version. The game crashed on me a couple times while using the pack, but then it seemed okay. I thought it was just my system. I'll download the new version right away. Thanks.

07-30-2005, 09:39 AM
Drucifer, I wouldnt call those rideback drops, Ride backdrops, have carrtoon airbrushed designs ofof something, like on the Rockenroll, youd see gutiarests on it. Drummers, buildings maybe.

On a darkride, they have scary things on it, a castle with monsters fighting each other drawn on it.

They dont really have real real pictures for eide backdrops.

07-30-2005, 11:35 AM
I searched the 'net for suitable airbrush renderings that were free for public use, but it seems that people with that sort of extreme talent don't much like to give their work away. The snake was the only one I found that I could use without infringing on someone's copyright.

If I was an airbrush master, the backdrops would be much more like the real thing.

07-30-2005, 11:40 AM
I mean Im very artistic! If only I could do that. . . .

08-05-2005, 11:58 PM
Someone please help. I'm still crashing with the Top Gun set.
I can't load anything that uses it either.
I think I have the latest file, but not sure.
It's dated 7/23/05, but only the aggressor is dated 7/22.

08-06-2005, 12:22 AM
Sorry man, the bug isn't fixed, I still crash whenever I click on the Top Gun scenery, and the Top Gun Scenery only.

08-06-2005, 08:02 AM
What Folder Do these Go in

08-12-2005, 11:35 AM
my game crashed wen i tried to open the top gun scenery pack...any suggestions...i hate my computer

08-12-2005, 11:41 AM
It's not your computer. It's a bug. The pack is not fixed yet.

08-12-2005, 02:07 PM
Try removing the old Top Gun pack (from style/themed directory) and reinstall with the file at this link:

Hope that works.

08-12-2005, 02:23 PM
I'll have to try that later.
The file size and date/time stamp is exactly the same as the other file though.

08-14-2005, 12:40 PM
Sorry, but the 'Top Gun' pack still crashes - the first crash I have had since installing the 'Soaked' retail!

08-20-2005, 01:42 AM
Hey I just found this pack and downloaded it, it to crashed on me (using the new link). I know you have a life:D but do you know when you may be able to look into this? I'd really like to use it, it looks totally awsome.

08-20-2005, 06:34 AM
I guess the first thing I need to do is to find out if anyone is using the Top Gun pack without a crash...is this happening to everyone or only a select few?

08-20-2005, 06:55 AM
Just test for you, yep it is crashing on my computer which I normally never crash in my life...
Sorry. I suppose better to remove it for safely of my computer... Maybe, you could re-make it more lower polygons and the airport can be separated pieces to wall size then we can make the customable ever more.

And the backdrops really need to improve, like thinner and colourable frame-board...
You can just make the frame-board alone, then make many pictures (better one) and place it on the same location as frame-board, cos it is easy for you to make many pictures than I don't like any one of them.

Then you will have the great and much better set to give us.

08-20-2005, 07:06 AM
I think I've found the problem.

The version in the self-installer is 1.3, but the one I use that works is 1.4 so I can only assume that I uploaded the wrong one somehow (??)

The current, working, completely fixed version has been sent to MTTM (where I have my scenery hosted) and should be available soon. I'll keep you posted.

One way to be sure you have the right version: Check your style.common.ovl file within the Style/Themed/Top Gun folder. If it's dated Monday, July 25, 2005 12:10 am, you're good to go.

And iceatcs, there will be no further updates to the ride backdrops. The WILD! expansion will include scenery that will allow users to import their own graphics, so once that's released maybe someone will figure out how to do it on a larger scale. In the meantime, I don't want to get involved in making a scenery piece for everyone who wants a particular image---I'd end up doing it for the rest of my life, which doesn't sound so appealing to me.

08-20-2005, 07:44 AM
True, import picture in the game using this new billboard feature. I hope jonwils or someone to find out how to import picture on custom scenery...

So you won't do any on this airport? Like separated pieces?

08-20-2005, 10:45 AM
I'm not sure what you mean by "separated pieces". The hangar and tower pieces are pretty much as separated as they can get.

08-20-2005, 11:14 AM
Checked my .ovl file and it's the 22nd July so looks like I need the version 1.4!

08-20-2005, 11:59 AM
The updated version has been posted, for anyone that needs it, just click on the link below.

Top Gun Theme Pack (http://modstothemax.net/games/rct3/designersdatabase/drucifer67/thememodules/topgun.zip)

08-20-2005, 12:14 PM
Ah, didn't know, but saw other ppl build much same as your, so I thought it is not separated.

Anyone know if this set is being updated for the "Wild" fix with Jonwill's new importer?

Not yet that I know of Skipper.

11-09-2005, 04:59 PM
It hasn't been updated yet, and to be honest, I can't make any guarantees. It's going to depend on how deep I'd have to go. The process is a bit tedious, and if I have to go too deep, there's the matter of missing files which would preclude such an update--I'd have to do some of the 3D work again, even.

Someone have a link to a thread explaining how the updating is done, I'll have a look.

11-09-2005, 06:19 PM
Essentially all that is needed is to re-export the scenery ovl files then re-do "install theme" (all using a recent version of the importer)

11-09-2005, 07:01 PM

Pleas update this scenery set I have an idea that would put this set to good use and I am sure other user that have used this set in the past sill want it in there parks.

11-09-2005, 07:25 PM
Please, please update your Top Gun Pack. My War of the Worlds attraction makes heavy use of this pack!!

11-09-2005, 07:46 PM

Drucifer, if you still have the ASE files from before, or have the original models/textures to make new ASE files with, all you have to do is to open the original theme file with the latest version of Jonwil's importer & create new ovl files & then re-import them.
One last thing, the icon file needs to be png format & not bmp. I don't know what version you used before, but if it's v6.1, like I used for my Dark Ride set, you'll have to rearrange the icons to get them to show up properly.

11-10-2005, 03:05 PM
I relly like your top gun theme pack and the ride backdrops but they don'nt work relly well with rct3 wild I get error messges when I open the top gun theme pack and the ride backdrops I hope that you can fix the top gun theme pack and ride backdrops to work with rct3 wild becuse I relly liked that pack and now that I have rct3 wild it dosn'nt work right it gives me error messges on the screen when I try to open the top gun theme pack and the ride backdrops do the same thing to I have it under rct3 theming and it gives me error messsges with rct3 wild it worked with rct3 soaked but not with rct3 wild I hope that you can fix this to work with rct3 wild.

11-10-2005, 10:29 PM

12-23-2005, 04:42 PM

12-26-2005, 04:16 PM
This set hasn't been updated for use with Wild yet, but will be hopefully fairly soon.

12-26-2005, 06:07 PM
Cool, hopefully the top gun set can be updated soon (since I need it to work with Wild! before I can work on my park)
