I've been having a playaround with custom scenery and, trying to get to grips with the texture files which, I was having some issues with and here, is something I came up with.

http://images5.theimagehosting.com/skullwall.jpg (http://www.theimagehosting.com)

The top part of the image shows the wall at night with no lights, the bottom part of the image shows the wall with a couple of snake lights placed behind it.

It makes the wall disappear but, the image remains.

07-21-2005, 06:46 PM
That's cool!

07-21-2005, 06:47 PM
Very cool find Park Novice

that could have some really cool dark ride (implications?) (implimentations?) (my mind is blank)

How do you make the pictures? Please add a tutorial on how to do this? Can it be done as holographics for Rrollercoasters to move through? And do you need Soaked for this?

Park Novice
07-21-2005, 10:07 PM
Here is something to look at

Zip file contains a folder called test. This holds the three wall texture ovls. Copy this folder into Rollercoaster Tycoon 3\style\Themed folder as you normally do with custom scenery.

Then, copy test.dat into park folders within My Docs\RCT3

Open the park and set day / night transition. Place view infront of building and, keep an eye on what happens. Think this will open enormous possibilities for those people doing videos. However, I could just be over excited.

Park Novice
07-21-2005, 10:08 PM
No you do not need soaked for this and, it would not be a problem for coasters to go through the walls if you have the scenery intersect option turned on.

DJ Atomix
07-21-2005, 10:11 PM
Thanks for the file and where can I find that "cheat"?

07-21-2005, 10:13 PM
Looks like you're halfway to an "Etched Glass" custom scenery set.... now how do they look during the day? Are they still semi-transparent?

I've got great ideas for this one.. how about a window, and near the bottom "Please Do Not Disturb The Operator" for control room windows? Ha! Hundreds of possibilities... Love the Emergency Exit as well!

I'm definately using this on a park I'm making. And I'm sure that you can use it as an operator's window. Thanks for the link!

Park Novice
07-21-2005, 10:17 PM
In the test park, the wall is solid, you would not know. If you have day to night set on, you can watch the wall fade before your eyes to reveal what is behind it.

With the custom scenery & no collision detection on the props, you wouldn't need the scenery intersect cheat to go through them ;)

Great find PN, this will be very useful I'm sure for a lot of things.

Park Novice
07-22-2005, 05:35 PM
Here is a quick clip of the wall transition from day to night. It is in game recording so, you don't think I have cheated by using a video editor to obtain the shot.

I'm going to have a play with this to see what else I can come up with.

Thats a good idea, its 2 separate ride experences.

does it work if you put a fire work behind it because that emints light too?

Park Novice
07-22-2005, 06:31 PM
I'm actually trying that as we speak to see if it works too. Give me ten mins or so and if it does I'll post a shot of it.

Soda Jerk 205
07-22-2005, 06:45 PM
The download didnt work for me :( i was gonna try something but Ill post my idea here for somebody to try

I was gonna try Sinking the lighthouse so you could only see the light and put the wall infront and see if it would dissapear and reappear as the light spins.

Park Novice
07-22-2005, 06:49 PM
The answer to the fire question is no, it does not work. Will need to discover why that is.

Soda Jerk 205
07-22-2005, 06:51 PM
i meant fireworks
cause someone could make a stobe type firework to make it flash

Park Novice
07-22-2005, 07:04 PM
Here is a quick test video with the light house. In principle it works no problem however, the light also affects the ground outside as well if it is sunk.

If you use the Dark ride set this, may not be the case.

Park Novice
07-22-2005, 07:06 PM
I've tried both lasers and fireworks inside but, they don't work either. It must have something to do with the scenery file settings and, what it will react to. Will need to dig a little deeper into the settings to find the correct flags for reactios to fireworks.

I'll keep on trying though.

http://images5.theimagehosting.com/Coctails.jpg (http://www.theimagehosting.com)

I'm thinking I may make a pack of these. If anybody wants anything specific, let me know and I'll compile a list the, I'll try and get something done.

07-23-2005, 05:38 AM
That cocktail sign and the rest of them rock. Well done!

It would be cool if you could add more neon sign looking things like the cocktails one like a traditional

American diner sign.

DJ Atomix
07-23-2005, 09:35 AM
I really like the neon looking ones! How do you make them? So then I can make a huge on for my park or something.

07-23-2005, 09:56 AM
You've got something really cool going on here, half-transpartet textures. They're like holograms or something, very creepy. Only thing is, if you release a pack, can you do every with ghost and not ghost (that is, if you know how)?

Park Novice
07-23-2005, 10:59 AM
Not totally sure yet. I get a few done no problems then, it turns to rats. Will have to figure why as, the process for each one is exactly the same.

I would love to see a Biohazard symbol.. that could be used in a hundred different scenarios...

Park Novice
07-23-2005, 04:56 PM
Here is a couple more for you to have a look at.

A Biohazard Sign, Budweiser sign and a Hanging skeleton which, would be useful for a dark ride.

http://images5.theimagehosting.com/Transparent1.jpg (http://www.theimagehosting.com)

I am currently making a pack for download which, should be ready in a couple of days. also, I will add a Tutorial about using these to build with as, there is certaing ways you need to build your structure to ensure that they work correctly.

Ok ditch the old one you had. I will be posting this in a day or so as a download with, the ones I've done so far. Then, I'll offer updates with new walls that I have created.

Also need to do a tutorial about using these walls as, there is a couple of small things you need to do to make them work like the pictures above.

DJ Atomix
07-24-2005, 09:38 PM
How do you make your own, add that in the tutorial too! And I can't wait till tomorrow!

Park Novice
07-24-2005, 09:42 PM
I'll add that to my ever growing list. It will possibly take a little longer as, its a damn pain in the arse to do without, explaining it.

I'll need to write down the steps that I do then, hopefully people should be able to re-create their own.

07-24-2005, 10:06 PM
This is really cool! Almost al ot haunted houses/carnival trailer kind have walls like that as pictures!

The "Abandon ye who enter here" Did u get that off of Dante's Inferno, or Dugeon?

07-24-2005, 11:14 PM
That looks great, but if you plan on releasing it, please correct the spelling of "authorized". ;)

Congrads on getting custom scenery into the game as you've joined the elite few. Now can we see some actual mesh work soon or can we expect only more cubes with alpha textures?
I wasn't going to say anything before but the overuse of alpha transparency is getting a bit cheesy.

They're not alpha textures, it's a glitch he found by accident in the scenery settings.

My bad. Sorry but I couldn't help wondering why anyone would need a transparent pizza hut logo. But hey, might as well before the glitch is patched.

Park Novice
07-25-2005, 08:18 PM
I managed to get a step closer to releasing the walls that I currently have today.

Here is an example of a Ride Entrance building which, use the walls incoporated within the structure.

In addition, this building uses JCats Dark Ride set specifically, the smoked glass wall to give a depth throught the path entrances and, Klinns Frameworks set for the arches and lintels for the path entrances and exits

Building during the day

http://images5.theimagehosting.com/RideED.jpg (http://www.theimagehosting.com)

Building during at night

http://images5.theimagehosting.com/RideEN.jpg (http://www.theimagehosting.com)

I am going to write a tutorial using this building as the basis which, should be ready in a couple of days and, release the my walls pack at the same time.

Well here it is folks, my first attempt at some custom scenery, my Transparent Walls. There is a couple of walls in here requested by some members of the forum the others, have just been thought of by myself.

Extract the zip file into your C:\Program Files\Atari\Rollercoaster Tycoon 3\Style\Themed folder or, appropriate instalation folder.

After loading the game, you should see the Icon in the walls section of scenery items and, by clicking on it you should have a drop down list of items.

I have not had time to write the tutorial for using these walls yet so, here is a couple of important things to bear in mind.

1. Place the wall in the normal fashion. Lights will illuminate them if placed in front but, will make the walls come transparent if placed behind.

2. To get best effect of the lights behind effect, lower the lights into the ground by either 1/3 or 2/3.

3. Due to the method of creating these walls, the game will place any other wall 1/3 above them. To overcome this problem, I have been placing 1/3 wall tiles above these but, with the blue square facing the opposite direction.

4. Finally, these walls behave like any other in game whereby, they work with both the shift and alt key and, have collision detection assigned to them.

As I said, this is my first pack so, I expect some people may have some issues with these. If all goes well and, they help in any small way to your parks please let me know as, I may endevour to make some more of these if there is a need.

Me too....the same problem. European version with patch2 and soaked installed.

07-27-2005, 03:45 PM
Ok. Now they working. Just open the extracted file, and cut & paste the folder in the usual place.:D

Great work Park Notice, but I found a bug: when I try to add upon the walls another wall of your set, there's a blank space (1/3) between the two.

Park Novice
07-27-2005, 05:06 PM
I mentioned that in the thread that contains the download. The walls actually have Light scenery object assignments thus, allowing them to become invisible at night. It is an unfortuate side effect to using these walls.

The way I have been using them is, to place a 1/3 wall section facing out before thus, covering the gap. Hope this helps.

07-27-2005, 05:19 PM
Ok sorry if I repeat it, but I haven't understand what I've read before!:D

After the sucess of the last set of wall textures, Tidus has sent me some pics that, he though would be of use for some dark rides etc. I have only completed 5 of these there is, about another 30 to do but, here is the some first look pics of the first set.

These are just standard walls with, all normal operations that RCT normally offers.

Hopefully should have this pack complete in less than a week. Again any feedback will be appreciated and, any sugestions for other textures also considered.

For the hot dogs (since you seem to be missing a brand for that?), perhaps using Nathan's would work for you. I haven't found a good logo graphic yet, but their site is:

They looks very cool! But for the download what have you thinked? To make an update of the older version or another one?

Park Novice
07-30-2005, 06:25 AM
At present Tidus it is a seperate pack. These walls are not the same transparent walls like before these, are standard textured walls. Also, due to the number of walls, the scroll through item list tends to be quite long.

What I am going to do in the next couple of days however is, split the existing wall pack up. Those that are more suited to be dark rides etc will be incorporated into those walls that are being created in your pack. The Food and drink ones will be incorporated into this new pack as an update with, any odds and sods being placed into a new pack.

This will then allow people to install which ever pack they wish to use, rather than having to scroll through a list the length of your arm.

If people feel they require all the packs installed, I feel it's been a job worth completing.

07-30-2005, 08:22 AM
Could you fix the light shade problem cos it seem not right to me.
It is not that quite follow to the daylight moving in the game.

However, you can fix the shade problem by to duplicate or regroup each side. You need the latest version of jonwil’s importer because it will be multi-object meshes if you selected more than 2 textures,

It is a good stuff but just the shades problem that I didn't want to use it... no offence but you can fix it then after that you will become one of master scenery maker.

07-30-2005, 09:48 AM
Hey Parknovice, would u happen to make a starwars one with Yoda on it? I want to make a starwars park, but no suff:(

07-30-2005, 11:16 AM
The portion of the orginal post (quoted below) no longer works. I didn't test this since Soaked released and it seems like something must have changed. :( It's a shame really. I did it once by accident and was going to use it for my bridges project. Good thing I didn't.
Just so you know, you can regroup inside your subgroup by changing the Group text string.

To clarify...
Create 2 text strings for the groups. FoodGroup (Food Stuff), NonFoodGroup (Not Food Stuff).
Use the FoodGroup text string with your food signs, use the NonFoodGroup text string with the non-food signs. (This is all in the importer btw).

This will keep all objects in one "theme" and as one single set. However, in game you will see
--+Food Stuff
--+Not Food Stuff

Just in case you did't know that already :).

I personally don't have a preference on how you release them at all (different sets, one big long list, what-have-you).

There's also something I did notice with the first set of nifty walls. Either I am using them wrong, or they require some setting that I do not have. (They weren't disappearing). Just something that others may want to take note of.

(My use: Place wall, place lamp behind it: ground level, 1/3 down, 2/3 down, 3/3 down, 1/3 up - No change Place lamps in front at same settings - no change). Place scenery behind it - nothing. This isn't anything against you, but could be why some people are having issues.)

Is it Disney with Coke, and Universal with Pepsi? Mc Ds with Disney? You get them on park maps, it shows the logos, but I dont have any, so could someone help me out?

07-30-2005, 05:11 PM
Disney is with Coke, so is Universal

Thanks for info Caffinated. I was not aware that you could group within groups so, I will address that issue before release.

I have not experienced the problems you have had with the transparent walls. I am at present writing a building tutorial for using them which, I had hoped to have finished by yesterday but, work has been hectic this week so it will be a couple of days yet.

Part of the transparency appears to be in relation to what scenery sits both behind and above the walls but, this will be explained in the tutorial. I also found that the snake light and the golden path light worked the best in relation to the effect but, again I will explain this in the tutorial.

The method I listed above does not work anymore. It did before soaked, but something must have changed.

Thanks a lot!:D

Very nice!

Thanks for doing this for all of us, much appreciated :)

I do see one problem though...This gives companies(like Atari) ammo to approach the coompanies to advertise in the game. I mean, it works for this game, but I hate seeing it in games like HalfLife(they advertise ATI) and other games that sell advertising in games.

Don't get me wrong though, I am very appreciative of you doing this, I am just voicing a concern I have ;)

If you do more food/drink logos, some ideas to add: (do all or pick whichever you like the look of, most of these are australian)
Dr Pepper (I think you said this was going to be done in the next release)
Red Rooster http://www.redrooster.com.au/
Donut King http://www.donutking.com.au/
Nandos http://www.nandos.co.za/
Hungry Jacks http://www.hungryjacks.com.au/ (its what they called Burger King when it came to australia for some reason)
Wendys http://www.wendys.com.au/ (no not that wendys, this one is an ice cream place)
Cold Rock Ice Creamery http://www.coldrock.com.au/
Victoria Bitter (beer) http://www.fosters.com.au/enjoy/beer/victoria_bitter.htm
Fosters (beer)
XXXX (beer)
Bundaberg Rum

Do note that my description of these beer/alcohol logos does not mean I endorse any of these alcoholic beverages (I dont even drink alcohol)

I certainly add those to the growing list. I'm going to complete some of these requests from other people first before I update the pack so, it will be a couple of weeks.

I also intend splitting the pack up along these lines:-

Fast Food

That should then allow people to only have to install what they really want, rather than a pack with 40 or 50 walls in it which, would be a nightmare to scroll through.

I don't know if A. someone has already suggested it or B. if it really fits in with what you're doing, but can I request "Planet Hollywood" and "Hard Rock Cafe" signs? They'd be cool to put over buildings with food stalls in them.

Thanks for all those signs once they will be released!

Coke is the most vile substance ever created.

It tastes horriable and its way way to carbonated. I pour a glass of coke and i gotta sit there for a minute waiting for the bubbles to go down. Pepsi dosent do that. I pour the can right into the glass with no waiting.

Btw, good work with the shops. Cant wait till i get soaked :)
