Here's a pic I scanned from an old book I have. Half of it is cut off, but I think it shows off a lot of the track layout. Hope it's helpful.

Wow thanks everybody, That pic you have there Teirmose was the first pic I found myself! Thats a very helpful ride. right know I'm using that to base off the layout. I'm also requesting some custom scenery to make this ride fantastic!;) Thanks for all the help!

Nice choice of ride to build. It is my favorite of all time.
The pic that was sent to your by Teirmose is not correct. Sorry :( The layout is very different from that. The best place to get the track layout would be from Visionsfantastic. They have videos of BOTH sides of the ride and you can see all the track.

I do want to say that you did do an awesome job with the pic Teirmose sent you. Looks great.

Have a great trip in Hawaii! I look forward to seeing you complete this!

It's basically a steel coaster with bobsled themed cars. ;)

I think it was the first steel coaster, too.

And those pics look awesome, the layout's spot-on.

And to the above poster, the pic of the drawn layout is pretty close do what the actual layout is....much of the ride the tracks are indeed side-by-side.

Matterhorn was the first tubular steel coaster ever built. That is what I have read. I am sure there were steel coasters before Matterhorn, but their tracks were not tubular.

The first steel-track, multi-vehicle roller coaster, this one's a little rough for some people, but a fun spin for most
(theme park insider)

The Matterhorn was the first to use cylindrical rails and urethane wheels, which is used on most roller coasters.
(mouseinfo.com)

Some Fun Facts:

Matterhorn Mountain is 140 feet high. It's visible from the nearby freeway.

The Matterhorn attraction was inspired by the movie "Third Man on the Mountain" (which in turn was inspired by the book "Banner in the Sky"), and opened on June 14, 1959. It was the first steel roller coaster in the world.
The Abominable Snowmen were added in 1978

ENJOY!

omg, dont even bring expedition everest into this. lol I have somthing against it. Matterhorn is 100% origional to disneyland. I hate that fact that they are building it. Its sort of a slap in the face to disneyland.

A swamp in Florida got mad at DL getting all the attention so they stole 90% of DL's rides and called it the Magic Kingdom. It stayed pretty much like that, then FL stole Indies layout for Dinosuar, so CA stole TOT, so FL stole Soarin, then CA stole Turtle Talk, so FL are stealing a Matterhorn like ride.

Hehe! Very well put. But I'm sure that they are letting each other do this. They didn't steal this idea.

I'm gonna have to agree, while I love the Original Matterhorn Bobsleds, I can't wait for Expedition: Everest. I don't think it will ever be able to say it was similar enough and Matterhorn will always be distinguished from it. Everest will just be a ride current to its time while Matterhorn was years ahead of its time.? something like that lol....... I love WDW sorry guys

You forgot that Disneyland stole Space Mountain from the Magic Kingdom as well! :)

There is a long back story to Expedition Everest. If I find the link I will post it. Disney tends to use the mountain theme in most of its roller coasters. This one will literally be the tallest mountain in Florida! It will go forward and backward during its journey. (kind of like some of my coasters in my videos!)

As for the Mattehorn. I cannot wait to see this. I was surprised that no one has tried to re-create it. By the way, there has been a long standing rumor that Disney has wanted to put the Mattahorn in EPCOT. Either in Italy or in a new country they would add... Switzerland. The real Matterhorn is located in the Alps between the two countries. (If they do, then they would really be stealing another from Disneyland).

By the way... speaking of EPCOT. Disneyland was very close to building WESTCOT instead of DCA. Forget about rides... they'd be stealing an entire park!!!

-JMAinAZ

P.S. And speaking of mountains at Disney... there is also a long standing rumor that Adventure Land in the Magic Kingdom will get a mountain roller coaster as well... Fire Mountain. This has been in development for quite some time. Who knows if it will ever see the light of day. I believe that Disney has even sent balloons up to the hieght and location of the peak to see how it would look around the park. The inside scoop is that Disney has the ride plans set but just need the right time and MONEY to build it. Disneyfreak might know more but if I find that story, I'll post it as well.

07-31-2005, 05:50 AM
But Space Mountain at WDW is just an indoor matterhorn :p.

You can't steal when it is the same company. WOW, I am use to Disney fans saying Universal stole from Disney, but Disney stealing from Disney, that is a new one.

I think you are just a little upset that EE is basicly an better and improved version of the mattahorn. Disneyland could never fit EE in it's park.

While on the topic of EE, I would like to be able to have switch tracks like EE to have backward portions of a rollercoaster layout similar to EE.

RE: Fire Mountain

Although it is unlikely in the near future, you never know with Disney. They did a lot to get Fire Mountain ready. A lot of people still have faith that it could be built someday. They did so much prep work already.
What could have been...

"The Magic Kingdom was to have gotten "Fire Mountain," a state-of-the-art roller coaster themed around story elements from Walt Disney Pictures' Summer 2001 animated release, "Atlantis." What would have truly been intriguing about "Fire Mountain" is that it was to have been the world's first morphing coaster. Visitors would start their ride seated securely in their ride vehicle. At the midway point in the attraction -- as "Fire Mountain" erupted -- the bottom would have dropped away from their ride vehicle, leaving the riders dangling from above as they zoomed through the rest of the ride."

It didn't help that Atlantis bombed though.

Are you going for a real as RCT3 will let you go? Or are you just going for the Matterhorn feeling. Only reason I ask is because if you trying to get it as real as possible the track is a little off. But if your not going for all reality then I love the layout so far! Keep up the great work and I hope you are able to get your scenery!

Thanks Disneyland255, I used a video of matterhorn to recreate the track, It will always be alittle off, but I'm trying as hard as I can to get the layout of matterhorn as close to realistic as posible, with the limitations of RCT3, mainly I'm focused on the mountian itself.;) Thanks for the coment Disneyland255.:D

EE offical opening will be on 4/22/05 at Disney Animal Kingdom, although soft opening could happen as early as Jan '06. The attraction will be about 3 1/2 mins long with foward and backward portions. The attraction will feature a 15 to 20 foot AA Yeti that is suppose to be more fluid as the lava bug on "Journey to the Center of the Earth" attraction at DisneySea in Tokyo. The mountain will be 199ft tall, tallest drop will be 80ft and the trains will reach 55mph. While EE won't be the fastest, nor tallest coaster opening in 06. I do think it will be the most entertaining.

Here are some updated photos of EE.

I was at magic kingdom over summer and all i can say is the banked curve coming down and out of the mountain looks awesome!

The ride looks good so far. It should be great with custom scenary. When i first looked at this thread i was expecting a bobsled coaster but it stills looks like it will be great with the coaster you chose (i think it's spiral right? I don't have much experience with that type of coaster so i don't really know what it is).

Anyway, good look. Can't wait to see and ride the finished version.

The actual track on EE goes up to about 150ft I think.... They wanted to make it look huge by making the mountain much higher than the top of the track.

Your track layout is kinda off. I just came back from DisneyLand and the first drop kinda turns downward and then drops. And the tracks are like right next to each other for almost the whole ride. I think you should get a more recent track layout and rebuild it because thats nothing like the real thing. Oh and one of the tracks is mainly banked curves, and one track is mainly regular curves. And... *takes breath* there are like 3 or 4 waterfalls on the moutain....also your beging onto the lift is off. It gets sort of like a launch from the station and does like an s bend left and then straight then up the lift....and if you can get the lift anymore vertical then do so because the real thing is way more "vertical" anddddd..... ya need to re do the entrance its not brick looking its slate looking.... besides all this im sort of looking forward to the finished product! Take all of this into lots of consideration!!

rctroxman

Rybo-XL
08-12-2005, 11:07 PM
Hmm, well, your right about some things, but here's were your off.

1. I have the entrance to the mountian correct, it does an s-bend inside the dark "room" that I made.

2. I watched a video of the entire ride, I did my best to create a replica of the ride, but It will never be perfect, RCT3 won't allow it.

3. The station IS slate, not brick.

4. I haven't even built the mountian, but I know it has 5 waterfalls

Thanks for the tips, I know this won't be perfect, but thank you for taking a look. It will be much better when there's an on-ride video, cause its really hard to tell by the pics.

it does bounce twice in the water. It has the big drop into the water and then does a little bounce and then into the water again and then into the turn.

I think it's one of those opt. cheats.... oooooooohh... hes cheating.... but the cheating makes it look awesome!! I guess the right thing to do is....CHEAT!

Rybo-XL
08-17-2005, 04:00 AM
@ Shyguy: Thanks, Its acctually really easy to build under water, you just have to make sure that the track is intersecting terrain.;)

I told you it was an opt. cheat (option text cheat).... anything that enhances the game in which the creators don't suspect us to do is called cheating.... but in this case...it's just enhancing the matterhorn to look like a better replica :)

I am sorry for not posting in this thread earlier, but I am amazed you are still going at it! It is one big project, but yet you have pulled it off perfectly. Those pictures look perfect, looks exaclty like it! I cant wait to see the final mountain in place;)

I actually saw the Matterhorn (the real one) on a video show, were 3 skiers were caught in an avalanche!

I have a big problem. That is the ride is a littlebit too big. But I am all for getting the rides to scale. I believe each square on the map though is about 10 by 10 feet. So if you find an arial map of Disneyland, take note that Space Mountain is 200 feet in circumference, and then use that to find the actual base area of the matterhord, you can get a much more realistic version of the mountain. But I do know what Frontier has given us for a game does not allow for exactly a perfect replica. You wont be able to find the detail in the ride's track. But I believe there was a really good recreation on the RCT1 Disneyland Timeline website. (if it still exists).

Thanks Live_The_Thrill!

& Dark Measures, I tried that, scaling the space mountian to matterhorn, I calculated that one square is 6x6 ft. My matterhorn is about 65 x 90, way bigger, but it seems in scale with peeps.....:D

I am pretty sure that each square is 10 by 10..... or at least that is what it was in RCT2. I'll do a little test to see though.

You know Ryboxl2 you are really starting to rub me the wrong way. I donít know how many times people have asked you about the cedar point recreation, but it is getting ridiculous. If you are going to post a thread at least respond to the people that are talking to you. set aside from all of this I really like your work and that's why think im ticked off right now. If im wrong or I just sound like a complete jerk please someone tell me.

Ok, here we go:

Spanzini: The #'s mean the order at which I'm going to work around the base of the mountian....

K_Peek, yeah, I did a cedar point recreation....:downcast:

chickenoas: woah, that thread was still here? Anyway, the reason I gave up on that was because of the grand scale of the project, people were like woodpeckers attacking me at every little detail, so that sucked, and the fact theat the lag was SO bad, that people couldn't play the game, If I get a better graffics card, I'll resume the project....

:bored:

chickenoas
08-22-2005, 12:16 AM
Sorry Ryboxl2 for that comment, I just did not know what was going on with the project. Also I do not think people were picking at every little detail, I think they were just giving you suggestions on how to improve your park. Personally I think you did a fantastic job on the recreation, CP is a huge park and you managed to put it in perfectly with minor flaws. Any ways I hope you can get a new graphics card for your computer, because I would really like to see you finish the great park you have started.

That was hard, theres no bridge, so as a custom scenery request, I ask that someone make bridges like this one shown below:

Thanks:D

DJ Atomix

I'm way too busy to work on scenery. Sorry! :( As for the bridge, you could try to use Klinn's Framework set if no one makes it. ;)

RRollergod

Theres stone pieces with that arch in Marnetmar's and Pumper's darkride set....it's more grey then the real one but it should do it...it's what shyguy used for his rumbling ridge

Phantom523
08-22-2005, 02:51 PM
I'm actually working on a stone footpath bridge for my custom wall set. It's more of a grey in color, but it might work for you. It's very similar to the pic you showed above.

I'll post a screen shot as soon as I can. :)

Edit: From your screenshot it appears you need one two tiles long? (hoping)

Edit #2:

Here's a quick screenshot of where I'm at so far. I still have to add the arch of stones to the bottom side of the bridge as well as the inside edges of the supports. I also have to finish texturing (I do plan on lightening the texture).

http://img397.imageshack.us/img397/9299/stonebridge8lu.jpg

Ignore the "dark" patches in the pic. That's just the way Milkshape shades things.

The bridge is going to consist of the top bridge piece, and the support, so you'll be able to make it as high as you'd like.

PM me if your interested. It should be done in a day or two. ;)
