View Full Version : Check out some of my roller coasters...

08-03-2005, 06:09 PM
Here are two videos of my rollercoasters. One is a space themed coaster around a mountain.
The other is a western themed wood rollercoaster.
These videos are flash movies and you need to have a broadband connection.

The videos are of very very poor quality. You have to sacrifice some time if you want to make good movies. That there are peices of the experience are missing is also a problem.
I suggest that you make the movie with the RCT3 ingame recorder. then show us the video's. because with these vids...I can't do anything with them

I didn't think they were that bad...
I had to compress them quite a bit to make them viewable on the internet. The are a bit "pixeled" but you can still see what is going on. I used "fraps" because my rollercoastertycoon video "ctrl/shift/f11" isn't working. The reason there is some track missing is because fraps won't record the entire track consistantly, probably because my memory runs out. So the peices of track missing are very small, like a single turn. The first video is 1MB and the second is 3MB. I don't know if people can stream anything larger than that. I can make them larger and better quality but it will really eat up the bandwidth.

putfile can host video´s up to 10 MB
and if you use a free version of fraps, it only records 30 seconds

08-03-2005, 09:50 PM
^Yeah but you could just initiate the vid taking again and edit the 2 vids together. The real problem with the trial version of fraps is that damn watermark at the top. (oh well, not much you can do about it)

thats basicly what I did is record in 30 sec. bursts and them edit them together in Flash. There is a couple of milliseconds missing because I had to press "F9" again but the coasters still flow pretty well. I'll check out buying Fraps. Maybe you might know why my rollercoastertycoon video recording isn't working?
I just upgraded to Radeon 9800 128MB video card. When I press "Ctrl-Shift-F11" the monitor will flash to black and then come back. So I assume its recording and I hit the command again to stop it. Then I went to "my videos/rct3" and looked for a video but there was nothing. So then I did a search for .avi and other video formats but found nothing.

Might be a driver issue? Remember when you start the recording in RCT3 it should start lagging alot. (As it is taking it frame by frame)

Booman, check that you didn't change the combination for recording ingame. Got to Options> Keyboard shortcuts to check.

is that you playing the drums? youre pretty good, i need to work on my double bass

08-08-2005, 04:33 PM
Yeah. I enjoyed the drumming video.
(Never could get that Double Bass thing working for me)

Yup! that me. I used my digital camera and recorded some video of me messing around. Check out some of my music on the site also. Just go to the "tracks" page and click on The Paralysis radio.
or just listen to it here...

If the link doesn't work let me know.

Oh, also I ended up buying fraps and I am re-recording the coaster videos again. I am compressing them at a higher quality and taking the sound out, but they are still as high as 7MB.
So it may take 30 seconds to load or so.

Nice drumset. I gotta practice and work on my rolls sometime.

Anyways, those vids are good demonstraters on juts how annoying the screams are in RCT3 lol. And I agree about the quality, use a higher res, 640x480 if you need to. Be careful on choosing a size for the vid as windows movie maker doesn't seem to to do a good job with quality.

08-09-2005, 03:53 PM
Well, I'm actually using flash and I made the window so you can resize the video to your liking. My new videos will be in a higher resolution and will look better. I personally don't mind the screams because you have to put up with them in the game also. But in my new videos I took out the audio and just added a looped drum beat.
I should have them up tomarrow.
Thank for the advice

your music is sweet, the guitar parts sound kinda slayerish to me, oh good coasters too

08-09-2005, 07:27 PM
Thanks. Yeah IN THE RED has mostly a Metallica/Slayer sound. My biggest influence is a band called Meshugga. You can hear them in my odd-time signatures and some vocals.
I'm going to keep working on rollercoasters and I'll post some of my new ones when I get to them.
I'm thinking of doing a compact indoor rollercoaster. Kinda like Space Mountain but I'll use a different theme. Maybe the Hunted one.

yeah meshuggas a good band, some of my favoriites are lamb of god and dillinger escape plan though, i was hoping to go to ozzfest this year but unfortunately its not coming to atlanta :sour:

anyways, that sounds like a cool idea for a coaster, good luck with it

Listen to Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden. He can play the bass drum faster with a single pedal faster than most can play it with a double pedal. He's simply amazing. Listen to some songs like, The Wicker Man, Ghost of the Navigator and Brave New World...... Me, I play the bass..... In your face, hah! :p

Nice videos anyway, good you got fraps, it's good if you don't want to wait for the ingame one to record (like me), it's really useful. Can't wait. :p

Yep, Nicko McBrain is AWSOME! I grew up listening to Iron Maiden. He was a big influence on me. I still have a bunch of their tapes including: Seventh Son, Somewhere in Time, Killers, No Prayer for the Dying. They are great, I want to get some of their newer stuff too but I mostly buy Christian Metal. Anyways, my new videos are up and they look a bit better and flow better. I bought fraps and now I can record as long as I want. I used a low frame rat to keep the file sizes small so the coaster may be a bit choppy. They are still pixelized but you can re-size the window to your preference.
