i have saved most of the models in 3DS, but i haven't chance imported all yet apart those cone roofs on the first post with lighting striked.

But i have one more to show you is top roof which you now able to create odd number of the wall width.

could you also add a top piece like this?

That way i wouldn't have to use a flat piece for the roof...

great work btw!

I also think spooky portraits would be good idea. Single ones on their own not like the long wall from Dark ride scenery pack.

iceatcs
10-05-2005, 10:27 AM
VIPERHAWK2K4 - i have already add as the plan list said
- 2 kinds of Top Roof,
- Roof Board for Top Roof
- Flat Roof

So 2 kinds of top roof is one of them you want and other is the one that i took the picture of new top roof.

Spooky thing will be last, cos i have to finish all those requests. then if i have the time then i will be able to make some.

You are great iceatcs.

It looks like you are creating everything I need for this set.

I do have one question about the top roofs you are creating. Will you make one that is longer than the other?
Here is a picture to help explain my question.
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/9753/timber2a5ss.jpg
Please look closely in the red circular area, there is a gap in the front of this roof cap from the core colorable building set. The Timber set allows us the freedom to make these offsets which is a good thing for us. Will the update address this need?

Once again I feel the need to express my thanks to you for all the effort you are putting into these wonderful sets you are sharing with us. :D

iceatcs
10-05-2005, 01:28 PM
no problem i got you, i am not making the same top roof from the colour building pieces.

So you can see it is fine for any timber's roofs.

I'm really looking forward to this update! The existing set is extremely useful indeed. I am a bit concerned, though: when you adjust some of the models, will this mean that the ones already placed in parks will still work? I mean, a roof or wall that is fine now won't get repositioned, spoiling a building?

AceHawkX
10-05-2005, 03:21 PM
sounds awesome. Timber is the best custom set for buildings so far IMO, and this will make them even better.

my only problem would be that there will be a ton of peices to go through. Maybe more subcatagories could be used

Should be fine but it will changed if i change it, wont be change lotta.

I always tested with my model by open saved file after adjust the model so that I donít have to built it over again when I want to test it.

I won't turn it to anything just little change, cos some are not the right thin to others, and the flashing 2 textures when camera moving which those need to adjust the little size.

Good Idea, like Wall catagoires, Roof catagoires.. etc...

Sorry double post but there is update for different kind of top roof.
there have 3 sloped side, can be used many thing as well.
so right now i have to do the board thing i might have to add another top roof for with board on it

I am thinking that i will make to subcatagories for this pack likde Wall only, Roof only, etc.. so you will be easy to find and make it.

there actualy is a need for that. Custom scenery is alway only in one subfolder (most of the time the one on the far left). So if you have like, lets say 30 pieces, it gets kinda annoying to browse through them.

I agree, it would be pointless splitting the pack in this way. Although I can't think of any other way it could be split up...

Now THAT is a great idea!

I have thought of many different textures that would be useful to have, some of which are specific to a certain park or style, yet they really only have basic underlying shapes. To be able to use some template shapes to add our own textures would be a great option!

Anyway there is more update from that jonwils fixed the alpha problem in the importer. So now I can use alpha ;)

My first test with alpha texture is the large window, and it is successfully seeing thought the window glasses to see all the 3D objects on the back.

iceatcs
10-15-2005, 12:31 PM
very simple, just black and white, black is for tranparent, but grey can be semi-tranparent, but haven't try it yet.

So you have to conver OVL with alpha texture with your texture and select it SIAlpha or what effect you want. (you need jonwils importer v12.1)

that's it

Whoa... I just started playing around with this set (version 1), Iceatc... Fantastic work allaround! I'm glad to see you making curved walls, cone roofs, single tile roof peaks, and -WOW- Transparent windows! Excellent!

In pack one, it seems that "Upper Corner Left" is actualy the Right piece, and vice versa. Not a big deal, as it might be related to which direction you are facing...

You seem to have all the details- how about a swiss style balcony? A small one for framing out upper windows (maybe with flowers?) as well as a 'real' one that can abutt paths (so you can actually have peeps on them). Since a lot of these balconies have fancy fretwork, perhaps this is a good use of Alpha textures? Just an idea.

I have been using this set with the generic brick walls and the two sets fit together nicely. Here's a shot of a new set of gondola houses I'm working on- each waiting for that center roof peak:

http://www.vodhin.net/Buildings/CustomSets/Gondola01/Pic01.JPG

Is it possible to borrow the brick texture from that generic set and make propper doorways? The tudor stule usually includes brickwork or stonework- just another thought :)

Anyway, looking great all around!

Well yeah the black (0,0,0) and white (255,255,255)
Maybe in the Photoshop if you save greyscale, it might work for the alpha, because you only allow all RGB in same number to get all the range of greys...
In paint, you can save 8bits (256 colors) BMP.

Death might not will be in this pack, but it is just very first model for next pack, the spooky pack, i need more of them ;)

10-25-2005, 06:51 PM
Wow it is nice to see someone got how to build it so well, but I have the tutorial for how to use all the pieces proper.
I am holding it till when this update is finish.

But, by the way it may be finish by on this Halloween but cannot promise. The spooky pack will be the next pack cos I want to have many spooky objects I can.

However, due with my new life in the university so that I canít do much on my free time but I wonít give up of course but you willing find it little slower but at the end it will be worth fully.

So there are only 3 buliding pieces to finish off with 3D models, then few more objects like wall clock etc. ;)

Vodhin
10-25-2005, 08:19 PM
it's not that hard at all- though without the collision detection, the group delete doesn't seem to work... but other than that, it's not more difficuly to use than the regular walls- especially if you have the Soaked expansion and use the Ctrl key (just point to an object at the same height you want the new piece to be at, then hold ctrl down).

Another trick to do is to build sections and thensave them (like various combinations of roofs), then you can just place them. I have saved the upper walls complete with their trim pieces, which saves a lot of time.. :)

That looks great, KidFox! I see you're using the Steelworks set woth the chairlift, too ;) (we gotta convince Pumper to add nice single and double towers we can place, since the game only places them when you change angles of the lift line).

Iceatcs, the Upper Corner wall- could that be made into a solid 4 sided post instead of the 2 sided piece we have now? it would reduce the poly count and create an interior wall so when inside the building it doen't look funny. I'd also like to see some post and beam pieces with the same textures as the 1/3 timber wall (I love the way you can color the fine details of that piece, btw). Just a thought... ;)

I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday. When I was making this Pub I tried to use just 1 corner piece for the corner entrance, but it was opened on the backside, so I used 4 instead. Later I was thinking it would be nice if it was a block, like Vodhin said, because it would only have 6 sides, instead of 8 or whatever it's got now. And I could use just 1 for this post.

Just to say the half-timbered set is brilliant, especially if you live in Olde Englande like me!

I've already done a French section to one of my parks with Arc de Triomphe, race course at Longchamps with grandstands etc. and have now moved across the Channel to home.

The customary faux English village with its pond, village green, church and (fake!) Tudor houses is underway thanks to Iceatc's thorough and intricate modelling work. So far have done the below building - based on Shakespeare's house (somewhat loosely!) in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

I'm especially looking forward to the curved/tower pieces and the "missing" roof apex piece (see other posts below) and the Halloween goodies!!

Excellent!!!

I am holding this project for few days as I got the test coming up for university.

I have created 3D models already but waiting for to get Wild!, which it is out on the 4th Nov in UK. So I hope I can finish with it by this week, but deffo no late than 6th Nov.

Next bits I will import -
2 new design chimneys
Flat roof
Wall Clock - (One for wall and other for upper)
Open door - (with door is opened)
Pub's Swing Sign - (colourable atm, in future - possible custom picture)

List I have already done 100%:
2 kinds of Top Roof
2 Roof Board for 2 kinds of Top Roof
5 kinds of Curve Wall
Curve Roof
2 sizes of Cone Roof

New fixed:
Semi-Transparent all the windowís glasses

There will be no shift-button, because I have released the first version and it might be cause more chaos if some people who have already saved this pieces in their park.
(But I have tested with them and it is working well, but it is better to remove it for safely with your park saved :))

One more picture of window:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v673/iceatcs/winodws-withtranparent.jpg
I have realise that you have to build interior first to get the all the background visible when you built the outer wall at the end.

However do you think it is too clean?

Yea!! Transparent Windows!!

2 Questions:

1) What do you mean by 'No Shift button'? With the last pack I could use the Shift button to raise/lower the pieces. I can't do that anymore? I 'must' be able to use the Shift button to raise/lower pieces.

2) Will this pack replace the last pack? I mean, I can just un-install the old pack and this will replace it. So, all of my old buildings will then have transparent windows, ect...

iceatcs
10-31-2005, 09:12 AM
1) What do you mean by 'No Shift button'?

i mean when you hold the shift button - the wall will be automatic raise after you built the lower wall.

2) Will this pack replace the last pack?

Yep, and you can use it to replace the old version and the park saved shouldn't be affect .

Double check the install location make sure you do not have extra folders or the scenery is not in the right location. That error usually occurs when the scenery is not installed properly.

iceatcs
11-04-2005, 12:52 PM
Kidfox is right, that error usually occurs when the scenery is not installed properly, because it is working pack.

Please make sure it is install correctly, use the readme.

uncle_adolph
11-05-2005, 04:45 AM
I re-installed it using the .exe and it still does it. I installed it to the desktop then copied it because it doesn't install directly to the themed folder.

It's installed in .../RollerCoaster Tycoon 3/Style/Themed

It then creates a folder on the desktop called IceactsTimberFrameBuildingPieces. I cut that folder to the themed folder.

-Ben

Edit: I tried copying only the readme and the other folder and it works. It obviously doesn't work with the folder it generates.

Thanks for the help!!!

Hey Iceatcs, have you thought about thatch or grass roof pieces? I love the slate you're using, very real and nicely detailed. Come to think about it, I think I already asked this... :bulb: Anyway, I can't wait to see what the new windows and all the other new elements look like! :D

iceatcs
11-07-2005, 08:26 PM
Yeah I have thought of that before I have decided the normal tiles roof, but it might mean I have to reshape the roof to more thatch looking, like thicker and rough edge.
I might do that just roof pack in the future esp it is might be useful for extended when it lives.

Transparent windows are oddly working atm, it does transparent but if you want to get the visible on the background, you need built those first before put the window on at the last to get all visible.

So for prefab creators, esp for vodhin ;) - you might better save the windows pieces with the roof pack, so it will built at the last.

Vodhin
11-07-2005, 08:49 PM
So, the glass is not transparent unless you place scenery behind it first? I'll be glad to test what you have and see if I can find a clue... I'm thinking of Park Novice's transparent walls that are see through only if you put a lamp behind them.

Marnetmar- your spiderweb, does that have the same problem?

iceatcs
11-07-2005, 09:19 PM
Yeah, if you place after the window, it wonít be visible at all. But before the window seems working well, it is might because of no collision detection that must cause confused with other models in logical 3D world.

All of my timber pieces have no SID flags - if I have found the flags setting or fix OVL (maybe it is might be little alpha bug). I will update in the next time, of course.

Park Novice's pieces are not alpha texture I believe, because I think he used transparent OVL.

It seems to be fine from what I can tell, it's just getting all the other textures to cooperate that's wearing me out lol I've had all kinds of results trying to use the transparent textures & I'm not sure why that is, but sooner or later I'll get it figured out.

iceatcs
11-07-2005, 09:52 PM
i mean custom object on the backgrounds.

i think RCT3 scenery pieces are fully working with my windows.

Vodhin
11-07-2005, 11:25 PM
OK, so the RCT3 world is visible through the window, as are regular RCT3 pieces, but not custom content? This is getting weirder and weirder.

If it is collision detection related, the MaxInfinity's MaxDC Wall set should work then, since he used collision detection - but then why are custom objects without collision detection seen through regular- OH WAIT! I Think I know!

What if you are using an alpha setting for Water instead of glass? I know this sounds weird, but I think you cannot see water through glass in a regular RCT3 window....

Let me see something...

EDIT: ^ No. That's not it. You can see water through glass. I thought that maybe Soaked may have changed something, but I just checked some footage I took way back in January and water is visible through glass there, too, though glass isn't visible through glass in those older shots...

What is interesting: anyone who has filmed a water scene using the ASE, the water doesn't show up in the little preview.

http://www.vodhin.net/Pix/PicASE00.gif

but anyway... I ran the game and tried looking through all the types of transparancies and water does show up through glass, and glass and scenery doe show up when you look up at it through the water surface:

Basic water settings- No bump map:
http://www.vodhin.net/images/WaterPic01.JPG

Basic water with bump map:
http://www.vodhin.net/images/WaterPic02.JPG

Reflective water, any but terrain:
http://www.vodhin.net/images/WaterPic03.JPG

Just tossing ideas, maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't...

iceatcs
11-08-2005, 03:55 AM
Interesting thing you have solved thing out from RCT3,

well I have testing little more on different type of Alpha OVL, and I have found that one of OVL, is fully working very well, even it doesnít matter which one you must should build first to get the proper transparent.
So now it is doesnít matter with any more problems. ;)

Now it is very near finish as only thing I need to make 3 flat roofs - Roof, floor, and curve floor.

well just choose SIAlphaMaskLow or SIAlphaMask before convert OVL that' it

JCat
11-08-2005, 10:37 PM
I was going for just "SIAlpha" which could explain only the outline of objects showing up on a transparent background.
Thanks

11-09-2005, 01:35 AM

JCat
11-09-2005, 02:33 AM
Vodhin - LOL -
Yeah, it was a blob of red on a black background - and the end result was only a floating outline. Cool effect, but not what I was aiming for. What was really strange - if you placed this wall in front of any other wall/scenery, it appeared like X-ray vision because you still see the main pathway with peeps walking through this alpha wall. Then I put like 5 layers of standard RCT3 walls behind it - and you can still see through to the other side. REALLY weird ..

EDIT: I'm playing and I must say I was extreemly pleased to see how the new set worked with my Gondola buildings! WOW Fantastic!

http://www.vodhin.net/images/IceTFGondolaV2.JPG

but... what's this? a little error here and there!

The Bay window- I can see into the bay window from outside, but oddly it is solid looking the other way out.

http://www.vodhin.net/images/IceTFError1.JPG

Also, the dormer window pieces, should they be transparent? You only see into the roof (unless there's a special roof piece I haven't found yet). Also, it appears that there is no interior wall- see this pic:

http://www.vodhin.net/images/IceTFError2.JPG

This might be because the piece is a block and the transparancy effect lets you see through the inside of the block, hence the lack of an interior wall. My suggestion, make the dormer windows opaique again.

EDIT: Another problem: the Flat Roof cannot be deleted... Oops- I had placed the flat roof at ground level and it seems that you cannot delete it there- it does delete at higher elevations. Lowering the ground below the pieces let me delete them.

Over all- This is a fantastic improvement! I love all the new pieces- the curved walls, roofs- you even gave us curved floors! WOW! great job!

I LOVE this set. Pretty soon I'll have some pics in my OoT Park that show the use of it.

The only downside I have is that the roof isn't recolorable. I know slate is the most common timber roofing, but it'd be nice to be able to simulate terra-cotta, thatched, and tiled.

iceatcs
11-14-2005, 12:53 PM
There will be some thatched roof in future pack, as I am planning to make a mega project park - with much serious new custom scenery.

So Iím let those roofs to stay the same at the moment, so you can use the new projects with that.

You will see when Iím going to get a new park thread for exchange for my new park, as well another thread in the custom scenery will be for those packs from this park. Especially there will going to have own website on my website to exploring more on this park.

I have all the plan already preparing, but I dunno when I am going to announce what is going on that park I am planning.

And by the way, thanks you so much for comments and the pictures yíall made are really fabs. It seems that my pack made so many combination designs you can, so it looks working very well even I have no blueprint plan for that, ;)

So it is a really great start even I donít have to do much with next many projects by using this pack to change the texture for new one, and the release dates might be quicker than I thought for some future ideas.

Thatís right, it is very low limit the polygon count to get full visible all the way back. but somehow I have found out which it is about under 300 is best which it is quite low, because chimney is the highest one and it is already took 230+,

Some of creators have passed the limit of the number of polygons, but it is still working like you have using with those.

It is not that easy to get low polygon counts if you are creating some other 3D than box shape.
I have made the death body as you can see below on this part, which it is under 300 polygon where you can able to see all the way back.
This model I made that I am going to using that lotta on my next projects.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v673/iceatcs/death.jpg

Thanks for all comments and help, again. So it seems that it is worked, I can move on to the next project which it will be the big one ever in my life.

They are the one thing that is really missing, scenery-wise from RCT3 that we had in RCT2. Perfect for Victorian buildings and County Fair/Coney Island type theming.

super7, none of your links work. They all take me to a page that says the link is broken...

Actual Text:
"Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information."

Hye, Iceatcs- what a fast update- seems that everything works well now except for the tall piramid roof (The one with the spike)- it seems to be about 2 pixels short on two sides. It's the piece on top of the clock tower in my pic below.

I Love all the new pieces added to the set- a real improvemet! Here's a shot of one of my new gondola buildings:

Vodhin I found a very simple work around for this that takes care of that small gap.

Take the flat roof he made with the shingle texture and place it just bellow the tall pyramid roof and it covers that gap perfectly and since the texture is so close to the pyramid roof it is virtually undetectable. Fixes the gap doesnít require any changes to the set.

Iceatcs,

I thought that piece already existed? Or is this one slightly different?

Anyway...I LOVE this set...Thorneshadow Castle would not have been possible without it.

THANKS!
