Hi everyone! Here's a new dark ride I'm working on. It is an enormous Haunted Castle called Thorneshadow Castle. The ride is a spinning wild mouse using the Jack O'Lantern cars. I successfully "tamed" the mouse for this attraction by using the spin-lock track sections strategically to point the cars in certain directions at different parts of the ride and allowing them to free-spin during other sections. The interior of the ride is complete but I'm still working on the exterior. Here are some screenies below of my progress. All of them are interior shots...even the ones that appear to be outdoors.

Special thanks to JMAinAZ for hosting the hifi video!!

Park file now available:

http://rapidshare.de/files/9877890/Thorneshadow33.zip.html

You will need: RCT3 + Soaked! Plus the following custom scenery sets:

Iceatcs' Brand Name Logos Set (used on the queue chandelier only)
Iceatcs' Timber Frame Building Pieces
KLN-Framework
MNM_Dark Ride
Pumper_BLOX (a must-have for the Chamber of Stairs scene)
Pumper-DarkRideSet
Pumper-SteelWorx (used on the queue chandelier only)
shy-Main Street Set (used in queue only)
SK-Hangar51
Tidus Wall Set ("Abandon all hope ye who enter here" sign only)

I tested the file with updated-for-Wild sets where available but the park itself has not yet been tested in Wild because I have not installed Wild yet. Unfortunately, not all the custom sets I used have been updated for Wild yet. So the Chamber of Stairs might just look like a big empty black room in Wild because the stairs are made solely of Pumperís chrome ľ-tile block from his BLOX set. Let me know how it works in Wild if you have it.

No...I haven't tried to make any custom stuff yet...but the ride uses just about everyone else's stuff so far. :D Thanks for the feedback. Happy Halloween!

Thanks for the comments everyone! I haven't had a chance to work much on it lately. We live in Houston and this weekend we lost our home park...and my favorite roller coaster...so I'm pretty bummed right now. I'm going to miss the Texas Cyclone so much...and all of Astroworld. I "grew up" there...all those happy memories are going to be paved over to make room for parking lots and condos... :( I was blessed Sunday night though...I won a drawing at the park and got to ride on the very last public ride of the Texas Cyclone...I got to be on TV and everything! It was very bittersweet for me... :(

Thanks for noticing that medieval chandelier! It is made up of scenery from the game and 3 different custom sets! I'll start working some more on the ride building itself when I cheer up a bit.

It's so great to see you here on the Atari forums Derek. I trust that once you have properly mourned the Texas Cyclone...pity, I never rode it........you will grace us with some RCT3 greatness, just as you did in RCT2. I would LOVE it if you could find it in your heart to bring your most glorious Victorian stuff into this platform....it would probably be a lot of work and swallow your life though......oh well, a guy can dream.

Anyway, I look forward to more of this amazing experience.

Cheers,

Meretrix....ooops I mean Lux.....(also known in the "real world" as Derek)

THANKS DEREK! I always LOVED your RCT2 parks! (especially the rich and lush layering and textures...not to mention the great advertising your parks were for my scenery :D ) I am so tempted to get Milkshape or something and start playing around...but I think my wife has been an "RCT scenery widow" too long. ;) I will think about it though.

Hi everyone! Sorry its been a while since my last update. I have completed the video!!! The problem is...it is 181 Megs. I can make a 50 Meg version too but it will lose a great deal of resolution (you wonít be able to read the credits and such). Hereís a question...Iíve never used MegaUpload before. Is it reliable/stable, etc.? I know people have been complaining about Rapidshare but Iíve never personally had a problem with it. What if I put the hi-res video on MegaUpload and the 50Meg one on Rapidshare? That way people can pick which one they want to download. I think youíll find it worth it to download the hi-res one...I really worked hard on this project and I think youíll really like it.

http://rapidshare.de/files/8467794/ThorneshadowCastlelofi.wmv.html

I worked really hard on this video...I hope you all like it. The story is about a village called Thorneshire. The village lies in a valley in the shadow of an enormous fortress called Thorneshadow Castle. The lord of the castle is a wicked sorceror called Moebius. Moebius was once a good wizard who over time became consumed by dark magic. He cast a spell on the villagers and made them his slaves. The castle is surrounded by a forest of thorns.

The video contains some live footage and narration mixed in with the game video.

Thorneshadow Castle is up and available!

This video is one of the most creative videos here. The themeing is astounding as well as the great audio score and sound effects. It's even in surround sound!!! Fisherman also did a great job "taming" the wild mouse coaster like I did in The American Adventure. There are so many creative scenes in this ride. At one point I thought I was in an M.C. Escher picture with stairs leading every which way!
This is a must see!

Also, special thanks to all the amazing custom scenery makers out there! Especially Marnetmar, Pumper, Iceatcs, Klinn, and so many others! This ride would not have been possible without your wonderful contributions to the game!

The ride file has had a snag...I started updating my scenery with the Wild updates and I noticed in the video that some of the objects have dissappeared...most noticably half the chandelier in the queue area. (I need to replace some of Pumper's custom supports). :p

I'm out of town this weekend but I'll try to fix the ride file and post it soon...It doesn't quite work with Wild yet though. This was a really good ride. I like the things you added, certain techniques I hadn't seen used yet. Like, stuff popping out of the walls, the maze of mirrors was really disorienting, and the stair room was pretty cool looking as well. I guess another thing that made the video was the Midnight Syndicate tracks, like Spectral Mist, Raven's Hollow, Dungeon. And it seems as if the sounds were well tuned to the ride. I like the time of the laugh as a certain scenery piece popped into view.

Great work. :)

I guess I got a bit too excited before watching the video and pm'ed you before I posted this. :p But a big thumbs up.

Understandable. I don't own any of their CDs, I've just gotten ahold of a few of their tracks. I only like to listen to them if I'm making scary things or something like that. I listen to stuff that fits the theme of what I'm building. It kind of helps me realize the theme better. (like Christmas music if I'm building a Christmas village) I'm not much into goth music either, but I do like them, because its only music. I wouldn't have thought to buy a CD only for a project though

Anyway, I'm now interested to see what other cool movies you can make.:)

To me it is the least I can do to support the musicians...I wouldn't want to use the music if I didn't at least buy the cds...just doesn't seem fair...of course I probably shouldn't even be using their music anyway without legal permission, etc. anyway...but I guess this is better than nothing.

Thanks everyone!!! I'll be posting the park file itself soon as soon as I finish fixing the stuff that got messed up when I replaced my scenery with the Wild updated scenery sets. (and as soon as Pumper updates the BLOX set...the chamber of stairs will be messed up without it!) That way you can explore all the rooms yourself and you can turn off the scenery and see the track layout too.

 I saw your video and let me just tell you: What an Impressive job! My favorite was the hall of mirrors. I was literally getting dizzy with all the spinning. Too bad you can't get two cars going at a time in there so it looks like a reflection. WAY COOL!

Simply amazing, i loved the pillared room. Great sound effects, music and ride construction. Best ride Video imo.

Can't wait to see your next creation.

Where did you got that sounds?

Which part, specifically? I go them from multiple sources as well as recording some myself. :D Glad you like it everyone!

Absolutely amazing! I just watched the video and WOW, I can't imagine how much time that took you but it was very well spent I think. The hall of stairs was my favorite part and I think you used the set rotation ability of that ride very well too. Just an all around excellent job with the ride and the video!

Hi everyone! I have updated the game file so here it is:

http://rapidshare.de/files/9877890/Thorneshadow33.zip.html

WOW! Talk about old thread...ummm...the file doesn't work with Wild...Wild tore up all the terraforming under the tracks and really messed things up. Heartbreaking, really...
