View Full Version : Max Gothic Theme (Released!)

11-08-2005, 10:12 AM
First off, I hav'nt given up on the Max DC Wall set, its just that I had some problems and my files are scattered all over the place. I'm gradually getting them back in some sort of order, but until I do, its on hold, but I will finish it. In the meantime the gothic theme should be finished soon.

Love it!:D:up:

.....are those ladies "E Rated"? ;)

11-08-2005, 10:17 AM
Just plain gorgeous! I love the stained glass pieces...very nice, and the detail on the walls is just stunning!

11-08-2005, 10:24 AM
Thanx guys
all the pieces are low poly so they won't affect fps to much
the textures are from quake. the stained glass is lovely but is slightly inapropriate for a theme park as it shows topless angels so if someone can draw or find me a texture in the same style but with maybe a slightly more horror feel I will replace them.
or maybe just supply them with a bikini top :p

11-08-2005, 10:32 AM
Well, technically, they're not just topless....

It's not an issue for me, and it's not like custom content is subject to the "E Rating" for RCT3, but I'd think that a bikini top and bottom both would be appropriate. I'd screw it up, though, so I can't volunteer to do it, sorry.:p

I can just picture some of our younger members plastering those angles all over their parks.:haha:

11-08-2005, 10:41 AM
Thats some amazing detail . . . Cant wait for more, well done !

11-08-2005, 10:42 AM
Hey thats some beautiful work you got there Vortexian!

If you're not sure whether to use the nude angel and demon, you could always use this one. She's not naked. :)

Good Job on what you have so far.

11-08-2005, 11:47 AM
your right gibdo its unreal not quake.

nice window but I want a more sinister look, the angels In my pics have horns, I want daemons really but could'nt find any suitable, but i'll keep trying.

11-08-2005, 11:50 AM
Great job

11-08-2005, 12:38 PM
It might be helpful to look for the textures from the Thief series of games. There were a lot of paintings and windows in those games that dealt with the Occult. I'm a texture moron, though, so I don't know where to get any.

11-08-2005, 04:50 PM
Excellent work on these new pieces Max   I don't have any demonic looking angel type textures, but I'll see if I can find some for you.

11-08-2005, 08:28 PM
that looks awesome! this will go great, fantastic work Max!!

edit: phrase removed

11-09-2005, 07:50 AM
  Great work, this wallset is really missing right now.
Its definitely a set I will use for my PhantomManor ride.
I hope you can make a wall, with a dooropening in it, so we can let coasters and other rides go through it.
And maybe you can increase the width (dont know if i spelled that correctly:P) of the doorpost, for darkride tracks.

I hope this will be finished soon:D
Will you also make some objects that we can add to the creepy rides we're going to make with this set?

Great work !

PS: Will it be possible to put these walls ON paths, so we can let paths through the doorways?
That was impossible with your MAX DC castlewallset

11-09-2005, 10:26 AM
Max I won't change a thing. You have done it with taste and it is nothing that anyone can't see at a place that shows or display art pieces. Great detail and great work as always!! Thank you for your time and effort!!

11-09-2005, 11:39 AM
I wish I had more time right now I could create some custom drawings but alas I just picked up a new PT photo project that will eat my free time up until Friday. If you don't have anything by then maybe I can help you with soem origianal drawings.

11-09-2005, 03:58 PM
Thanx guys

I cant take credit for the textures, there done by shane church (I believe) for unreal tournament, I just chopped them about a bit and stuck them on my objects.

11-09-2005, 07:22 PM
some of that looks from unreal tournament the first 1

11-10-2005, 09:57 PM
Looks excellent nice job, and I know just where to use them...

11-12-2005, 12:11 PM
NAKED LADY! Keep her in. let her have her pride. Plus theres nothing better than the 2 best things in the same game (girls clothed or not) and RCT3) (and not porno girls, i mean like my gf kind of girls (real Girl).)
 keep up the good work.

11-12-2005, 11:08 PM
Here's a couple of update shots

11-12-2005, 11:40 PM
Looks like this could be a cool pirate theme as well! :D Mixed with some other custom scenery sets, of course....

11-13-2005, 02:41 AM
wow there are freaking sweet!

11-13-2005, 02:53 AM
Those archways look great! I have a question for you, though. How do you texture arches. I read your tutorial on texturing (thank you VERY much) but I have major trouble putting textures on arches and the like, once I've converted to NURBS. It gets all jumbled up. Is there a trick to it? Maybe this is the wrong thread to ask this, but I just can't figure this out.

11-13-2005, 10:01 AM
thanx guys

In answer to you question shyguy

There seems to be some confusion between the way rct looks at polys/faces and textures, to the way 3d studio does.
I know frontier used 3d studio for their scenery, but I suspect they had a certain way of doing it.
Texturing a plain wall is fairly straight forward providing its aligned and constructed the correct way, and the easiest way I've found is the way its done in my tutorial, however when you start creating complicated shapes rct gets confused and does'nt know how to apply the textures on certain faces. I've spent hours trying different ways of modeling in 3ds only to have the textures screwed up by rct3, and until atari release the information on the correct way of doing things, its all a bit hit and miss. I'll explain how I get around this at the moment. I'll explain how I made the arch in the pic, to give you some idea. The arch is made of 12 meshes instead of the usual 1, some of the reason for this, is the multiple textures I used, but I couldnt be bothered to create a single texture with all the parts required.

Start of with a box 4,4,4,
convert it to a nurbs, this seems to smooth things out in rct for some reason. if you use uvw unwrap to apply your texture to this box it will appear correct in rct, its only got 12 polys so not a lot for rct to get confused over. The easiest way to cut out the arch is to use boolean, but this sometimes screws the textures in rct.
on the box i used my gothic arch texture and applied a alpha mask to remove the doorway, this is great, except for the fact that there does'nt seem to be any way of importing double sided textures in to rct, so when you apply the alpha, the inside of the box is totally invisible to rct so we have to create another mesh to fill the holes. if you create a plane in max it will texture correctly and do all it should in rct without converting to nurbs
so just make a plane with as many subdivisions as required form it into the shape you need, make sure the polys/faces are flipped the right way so you can see them, because you'll notice, if you rotate the plane, one side is invisible. the arch runnig through the middle is created with 2 planes subdivided 7 times, then one is scaled bigger or smaller than the other. then the 2 objects are attached and create polys is used to fill the gaps at each end, you don't need to fill the bottom as this will not be seen and will only add to the poly/face count which rises sharply once you start altering a basic shape (the tunnel is about 120 polys/faces which is about 100 more than any other rct object i've created.
once the tunnel is finished, it is brken appart using the dettach option, so you end up with 4 meshes, outer arch, inner arch, front and back. if your only using one texture or you have all your texture in 1 .bmp file you can leave it all connected. I always use flatten mapping in the uvw unwrap to texture it makes it so much easier. I also dettached the sides of the box, into another 6 meshes, this was only because I used multiple textures and could'nt be bothered to create a single texture file.
all the meshes are then aligned, saved and imported as normal.

It may sound complicated but its not once you get the hang of things, infact 3ds is very simple to create very complex objects, the problem is, what would take 5mins to model, texture and look perfect in 3ds, takes 3 days to tweak and look right in rct, and the annoying thing is atari/frontier could eliminate all that by releasing some information.
and whats up with still using gmax, ok its not going to be supported anymore, but its still gonna be available, its still more than capable of creating any object required, its still gonna be modding all the other games that it does at the moment, its still the best free 3d program in the universe.
sounds like another get out clause for frontier supporting custom scenery. I hope this isnt the case. And finally a tip for rct4, include support for custom scenery from day 1, it will not affect your expansion pack sales.

Hope this helps, any q's let me know.
sorry for the long post:p I may edit and add it to my tutorial when I get time.
Ok Ok i'll shut up now;)

one last thing, shyguy your scenery is awsome absolutely awsome. keep up the Grrrrrrrrrreat work m8

ok I'll really shut up now.

one last thing............... only joking!:D

11-13-2005, 02:25 PM
Thanks, Max.

I didn't expect it to be so complicated. And I agree it's so annoying that you can design objects so quickly and easily in 3ds Max, but you can't use those methods, as it doesn't import correctly into RTC3.

Anyway, thanks for the info and I'll see if I can follow your directions correctly.

11-14-2005, 10:26 PM
Holy mother - where did this come from. I've been jumping in and out as you know with my schedule, and I just stumbled upon this. Jeez Max, are you trying to dish out heart attacks? That work is beyond amazing!

11-14-2005, 10:53 PM
LOL Pumper thanx

great textures maketh the scenery (or somin like that)

All credit to shane church who did the textures for Unreal Tournament, I just sorta borrowed them and chopped a few around a bit. did try to find a contact address to ask his permission but can't find one.

Should be released tommorow some time, I'm just alpha mapping the angels so they will be semi transparent, I'll leave the non transparent ones in as well as there already there.
I've done a few pictures to hang on the walls as well, I've emailed the person who owns the pics and asked if I can use them, but I've had no reply yet, and I did say I would credit them and add a link to there site so all the pics in the portraits are by deathstudios.com.
I thought about doing roofs for this set, but to be honest rct3 already has roofs suitable so I won't.

11-16-2005, 04:23 PM
Any more screenshots MaxInfinity? I can't wait to see more! :D

11-16-2005, 04:40 PM
its almost ready for release doc
I was gonna release it yesterday, till I realized I'd forgot 2 make the bottom pieces for the 2 arches:D
and I was expecting an email from deathstudios.com to see if I could use their pics but as I hav'nt I'll release them anyway, if they object i'll replace them with something else.
Iv'e just got to add 3 icons and check everything is working how it should so hopefully you should be able to d/l tomorrow.

11-16-2005, 04:53 PM
I have a question.:D

What kind of conflict detection is on this set? The reason I ask is because I'm finding that I am getting a lot more use out of the ones that don't have any detection at all, and it also makes it easier to merge them with other sets that do.

11-16-2005, 05:18 PM
Great work there, love the walls. Keep it up.

11-16-2005, 05:30 PM
thanx guys

Some pieces have cd on and some don't but you can turn all collision detection off using the global detection, I believe there is also config heat for path intrsection only if you want to place pieces on a path. but if most peeps prefer cd off thats no problem
actually I'll start a poll.

Max gothic theme > me x 3

:D :D :D

11-18-2005, 12:17 PM
This is one awesome set, and sorry for not replying earlier.

I really want to download it, but I don't have any extractable RAR software, can you just do a normal zip file instead please?

11-18-2005, 12:52 PM
Thank you very much, MaxInfinity, that's an excellent set. Just a suggestion, though: wouldn't it fit better in the Horror theme, rather than the Generic one you put it under? In any case, well done!

11-18-2005, 01:47 PM
I'll be checking THIS out tonight, for sure.:D

i had that problem to but after the 3 try i got the download site.
maybe it's your pc or it's the webpage

Is there some trick to making corners with the columns, or is this how it is supposed to work? I can't get it to look real good.

The column top piece is half the width of the tall column, so I move the tall column back, which also makes it move back on the column base piece.

11-24-2005, 01:04 PM
The only problem is i've found a TINY bug... When i was building a twist on a pipeline (or any other) coaster through the arch/tunnel piece, as you pass "Underneath" the piece (due to the camera being above the train, so it goes a little below the object), a floor suddenly becomes visible under the piece.
Why is this, because it's not visible from above?
And before you ask, no it isn't the ground, the twist is 10m up in the air....

It doesn't matter if you don't change it, I just thought you might like to know!
P.S. Incase you're wondering, the reason I used a pipeline was so it twisted inside the track, not outside, so the peeps dont smack their heads on the walls...

11-24-2005, 02:55 PM
Thanx guys

Sprog, can you show me a pic of what is happening and I'll fix it.

snacko, I'll make a filler piece when I get time, the columns were really only to give a bit of 3d feel to flat columns on the wall textures.

11-24-2005, 03:04 PM
omggg, this will be perfect for my Parrrkk. Great job with it, it looks amazing!

11-24-2005, 04:17 PM
Right, what's going on is this:
http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/5451/tunnelproblems2hn.th.jpg (http://img112.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tunnelproblems2hn.jpg)

As you can see, the ride is upside down, with a "floor" clearly visible. It's not the walls on either side doing this (I deleted them to check), but the tunnel built on top of them...
I've never had such a thing with 3D modelling, but I've never managed to import mine into RCT3!

Any ideas as to what the problem is?

11-25-2005, 08:47 AM
sprog, thats the base of the tunnel, It looks like I need to apply the alpha mask to the base aswell, I'll do it when I get 5 mins.
I didnt think about using them above ground level, which is why they escaped my attention

11-25-2005, 05:25 PM
Thanks for that!
Cool! I came up with an Idea that you didnt have :haha:

11-26-2005, 08:44 AM
