View Full Version : request for Jonwil or any other rct3 modifiers out there...(regarding billboards)

Just wondered if it was possible to somehow modify the program files to enable us user-define the size of the billboards (i.e. customise the length, width, depth etc.) There's gotta be a file hidden some where that contains all this data....

I would love smaller/different sized billboards, more like signs you can put on buildings. But I doubt it's possible to change the ingame billboards.

IMO, although it may have been a little difficult they (atari) should have created a 'click and drag' type feature, something similiar to the swimming pool builder to help us size the billboards...

I would have liked for Frontier/Atari to have included a .50 x.50 and a .25 x.25 billboard size. In other words a half tile and a quarter tile size. I know the quarter size is very small but it would allow us to put up signs that appear realistic size wise when compared to other scenery components. I would not mind if it caused the images to be blurred. Lets face the facts, the peeps do not read very well. LOL. It would also be nice if we could place the billboards within the tiles kind of the way we can place the small flower beds. Inside the squares as opposed to placing them along the tile edges.

All of this is just wishing on my part. I want Frontier/Atari to know that I am impressed with the billboard options they have included in the game. My hat is off to them. Maybe they might consider this wish on my behalf, for a future expansion. That's right, I am happy with the billboards. The inclusion of billboards in the Wild expansion was stroke of genius.

If you want this to happen, try modifying the ovl's of the billboards, but with the custom images, I don't have the slightest clue on how that'll work. I would like to use the 4:3 images as most of mine are of that ratio, and the distortions caused from using a 4:3 images on a 1:1 or 1:2 board are pretty horrible.

hopefully but we need jonwil to create a new editor. Removes a lot of hassle out of UV'ing objects.

I'd love to have some smaller sized billboards, but at this time I don't think Jonwil can do anything with the files, since he doesn't have the knowledge of all the data to make them work.

I don't think theres any possible way to effectively edit the billboards because the billboards are effectively a static 3d object(which means it cant be changed through coding, but you could through a 3d modeler, but there is not way to extract the 3d models from the ovl yet), though if someone were able to intoduce a platform which could effectively, take 1 small square, and then have the user add rows or collums of squares (one at a time) until you get what board you want. then you could just select an image and it would strech or make it smaller to fit the billboard.

This give me an idea/

A billboard is just a scenery piece with a special flag on one of the meshes (the flag is supported in my current scenery importer).

How the game knows which files to draw in the "billboard" list, I dont yet know.
