I thought it might be a good idea, to have a thread on what custom scenery makers are working on, once we get a list, maybe someone could put it all in a single thread and get it sticky'd.

Well I want to make a neon lighting set but it probably wont be out for a will because I still need to tweak my modal sizes (almost there) than I have to get the recolorable textures to work and lastly figure out effects points to make the objects light up (cant have neon lights that dont light up lol) so ya theirs still a lot of work to be done.

I dont think anyones worked out the lighting yet, just adding a help point to you model won't be enough, you'll prabably find that the help point needs to be named something that rct3 recognizes as a lighting point, I doubt if atari/frontier would just use help point,
there's probably different names for the different kinds of light, so until we find this out, I'm afraid lighting is just a hope. don't let that stop you experimenting though, coz thats how most things are worked out.

Some of my objects are in the Wilder West set; it's a 3-man 'group' project.

Beyond that, I have nothing planned until early 2006 (when business quiets down).

That would be Whiteflash (master modder from Modtothemax), who did quite an amazing job.

:haha: :D No, I didn't even think that - I was just adding myself so people know I'm still involved and haven't abandoned ship. You were busy as heck before moderator, I can only imagine how it is now.

You are correct that I am working on the Main Street Set 2. Also, in the works is the Expo 3000 Set which contains various odds and ends, including inclined walls, signs, and tables for my Wonder World park.

I started on some winter themeing objects, Sorted out the lighting then the texture messed up, then I fixed that and the lighting was messed up, so I just gave up on it.

texturing is a pain, it gets messed up between the 3d prog and rct, but if you keep tweaking you'll get it right. the lighting problems are due to the objects rotation/axis point not being aligned properly

It was aligned properly, the problem was that I didn't set the emmisive and diffusive colors correctly (Marnetmar fixed this for me) After that was done I applied the texture once more, Imported it into the game, and the lighting still didn't work and what was left of the texture was little black dots running down the face of the object.

after 100's of hours of experimenting with objects, the only thing that affects lighting and shadows is axis point alignment and edge smoothing, and if its the edge smoothing your textures would blend arond the edges, rct deciedes where to put shadows and lighting, by the position of the sun in rct3 and the x,y,z, alignment of your objects rotation point/axis (I dont mean the alignment of the object, thats totally different) nothing else will effect the shadows/lighting except for using different texture styles I.E. simask, siglass etc.


To see if its the edge smoothing, detach the sides of your object 1 by 1 and then reattach them, this will remove any edge smoothing.

Oh ok, cause right now the texture is set at "Opaquetext" (something like that)

for normall looking objects use siopaque, but before you do anything just detach and re-attach the sides of the object, the edge smoothing affects both texture and lighting, so it may solve both your problems. not sure which 3d prog your using, let me know

Milkshape, but when I smoothen it, it just adds more polygons...

dont use smooth on it. Example! a box with a top and bottom and 4 sides select all the poly/faces on the top plane and detach or whatever the command is in milkshape, select the piece you've just detached and apply and map the texture, do this with all the sides and then re-attach them, this will remove all the edge bleeding and smoothing from the object, once its all back together, make sure the axis is still aligned properly and import, this way has never failed me yet, if you were using max i'd guarentee it to work, but I know nothing about milkshape.

I didn't texture map this, since there's really no point. But If I do I need some explanation as to how to do it.

As for detaching faces, there's no such option that I can see

You can select by verticies in MS & then "unweld" them & select (for example) each side of a box by "face" & then apply the texture & then do another side the same way. In RCT3 I found that for a "box" like this, you don't need to re-weld the verticies before importing. If you do, it causes the dark shading problem when imported into the game for some reason.

Well it's about time i release a few bits of info on my first official scenery pack. Some of you may know me from half a year ago, when i was constructing a Jurassic Park Set.

Well, i'm still doing the Jurassic Park set, but concentrating on getting the basics out first. Things that all themes will find useful;

- Brand new concrete walls, 2h/4h walls, added tiles - straight, corner, end, diagonal.
- To go along with the concrete walls i have designed two sets of 'tops' to go on them. The first being a very low edge used for harbours/water rides. The other being used for my electric fence, which is a higher and wider concrete wedge.
- To finish off i will be releasing a brand new rock tile. This will be used on lakes/rivers/water rides to create a natural looking edge to the bank.
- I'll also be creating some realistic looking cliff walls. For use everywhere.

'note' all of these will used fixed textures, i.e. not colourable. However, when i have more time, i will go back and adjust them to be colourable, just not yet.

I'm just focussing my attention on the rock edging, getting a good blend of textures is a little tricky.

I've been very busy with real life for the last half a year. Barely any time on the computer.

But i've got some free time in the next week or two, and have already produced a fair amount of stuff in a few days.

For you and Jonwils delight, heres a little sneak preview of some of the pieces i was referring too.

As previousally said, i've created the walls as followed: The main wall section is split up into a 2h/4h wall
model. On these i will add windows/doors/sewers/piping etc.

I've then created two trim decorations, these act like fences so to speak. You have the nice water trim, used mainly for water rides, but can also be used as a wall border, i.e. putting a wall ontop of it. The second is an actual 1h wall which acts like a fence. I will add diagonals to these tiles, and also add in a brand new floor so i can fill in the gaps.

These are just wip pictures, so there might be a few bugs.

When i've made a little more i will, but at the momment it's just full of boring concrete walls, useful walls, but still boring. I was playing about with Soaked the other day and kept getting frustrated by my buildings as they all seemed far too square, and the missing pieces, like the slanted walls really annoyed me.

I've also forgotten to make a square corner wall, at the momment i've made them into 3 walled curves. So i'll add in a square wall corner as well.

Once the concrete basics are done, i'll get to work adding in some filler objects. Like doors, windows, piping, crates, barrels, lights, fencing etc.

But the first release will be simply the concrete walls. Which is about 50% done.
