Hello and best wishes to the entire community.

RCT3 has become a well-loved mutual hobby for my partner and I. The park we're currently working on was inspired by real-world attractions like Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan; Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois; and The Historic Warehouse District in Cleveland, Ohio.

Our version, Brickyard Place, is set in a formerly semi-abandoned industrial zone. Structures of historical note, like the Egyptian Theatre movie palace, have been moved onto the premises to nestle among pre-existing structures like the Nautica Pottery factory and the Flivver Motors plant - all retrofitted with rides, shops, restaurants, and attractions.

We don't plan on posting very much in the way of work-in-progress reports. We'd rather wait until the park is complete.

However, as a hello, and a token of gratitude to the more experienced modders - especially Jonwil, who has made user-created scenery objects possible - we'd like to offer our first piece of custom scenery to the community.

We're aiming to keep as much of a late-nineteenth-early-twentieth-century aesthetic as possible in the architecture and design, so we're using a lot of vintage advertising graphics in the new billboard objects. One item in particular, however, refused to cooperate.

We found a photo of a beautiful vintage-style sign advertising the services of a small-airplane pilot that we wanted to hang on the side of the structure housing the entrance queue to the Barnstormer ride. The shape and proportions of the sign defeated all attempts to find a good-looking way to use it on a billboard object, so it became our first candidate for custom scenery.

Here's a shot of the new sign in context:
http://www.thornsilvertree.com/RCT3/Barnstormer.jpg

And, for anyone who'd like to use it, the custom scenery object theme is available here:
http://www.thornsilvertree.com/RCT3/SilvertreePaintedBillboards1.0.zip

Currently, this theme contains only one item, but as the name suggests, I plan on updating with more signs as I complete them. The Barnstormer sign is fully recolorable and compatible with the Wild! expansion pack.

Again, our thanks to the community and all the generous volunteers whose time and energy have turned this delightful game into an ever-expanding hobby.

Hmmmm, judging that you registered a year ago, I cant say welcome to the forums, but welcome to custom scenery making i guess, lol. Its great to see someone finally start an "old school" project, lol. I cant wait to see what you guess come up with, and the sign looks fantastic, great job!:D

What a gorgeous sign! Thank you so much for sharing that, it will be used a lot in my parks I assure you!

Looking forward to seeing more of your work :D

Thanks to you both.

Ryboxl2, it's true - I registered in 2004. I can't for the life of me remember why. It's possible I was troubleshooting the installation of another Atari product and was looking for posts from other users who'd experienced similar problems.

In any case, I completely forgot about it until I went to register a couple weeks ago and discovered I was already a member.

Since then, I've just been lurking. All the issues and questions I've had about our installation of RCT3 have been discussed elsewhere by other users, and I didn't have anything original to say until now, so this is my first post.

So yeah, I'm an almost-year-old new member. Ha!

And Wabigbear, we'd debated whether or not I should post this theme, since it contains just one rather narrowly specialized object and we wondered whether anybody would find it useful.

Finally I decided to just go ahead and upload it. I was tired of lurking.

And I see from your signature that you're associated with a couple sites I've seen but not yet had the time to explore in-depth. Seems I'll be benefiting from your work more in future.

Thanks again. And if you folks - or anyone else - run into problems or have suggestions about anything I distribute, please let me know.

Hi thornsilvertree, from what I see from your picture, I would love to see more. You've got some great ideas and you seem to know what kind of little touches, like your billboard, round out a beautiful park. I know you're saying you want to wait until you're done, but I would encourage you to post more construction shots. Many of the parks around here are inspirations to others and offer different ideas and techniques. Someone of your apparent skill would be a nice addition here.
Thanks!

Nice work on the sign thornsilvertree   This is an excellent idea & I'm looking forward to seeing what else you make for this theme.

Thats excellent, one of my experimental parks has one of airplane rides sitting right next to a big red barn just like in your screen shot, and that sign will be added to the side of it very soon, thanks for creating it.

Ha Ha Ha, you wanna know something funny, I registered here because I had a problem installing RCT3, and now I've been registered for a year (my other profile was deleted) :) so, what is next in your custom scenery project

Thanks to everyone who's responded or downloaded the theme.

Larry241, how about if I promise to post screenshots and explanations of any unusual techniques or tricks we use? My work schedule is very much feast-or-famine, and there are going to be stretches when I just can't afford the time to play RCT3, much less keep folks appraised of our work. I don't want to become yet another message board user who bursts on the scene, uploads a load of pictures of half-completed parks and then vanishes again.

Marnetmar, thanks for your word of encouragement, and in case you don't hear it enough, thanks for all the work you put as both a modder and a moderator here.

And Ryboxl2, next up is a large - on the order of four-wide-by-one-and-a-half tall - sign for the side of the Flivver Motors factory. I'm still working on the texture image, and once that's completed I'll start on the 3D model.

That's a good deal to me thornsilvertree. Sounds like your work schedule is a lot like mine. Took me almost a month to post one of my updates. I was working 60hr weeks at that time. My next project is starting soon, so I'm hoping to produce a lot in the couple of weeks. Can't wait to see more of what you've got.
Thanks for sharing!

I'm afraid not. Hopefully, thornsilvertree will see this and provide an alternative link (or give us permission to upload it somewhere). It's a beautiful sign and it would be a pity if it were lost.

I'll be happy host it until thornsilvertree can get the link fixed, so people can continue to get/use this excellent sign. I don't have a copy of the pic though.

would love to download your painted billboards cs but after logging into the mttm site, I click on the d/l link here (http://http//www.modstothemax.net/community/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item210)and it says downloaded but the size is 0kb with nothing in the zip file.

Could you possibly upload it or provide a new link for it?

Thanks

its weird, i cant link to the same place from here.. please go to the custom scenery list http://www.rct-theme-world.de/rct-liste/complete-list.htm , choose to view the complete list tab at the top, scroll down and click the d/l link there to see the issue. You may have to log in but if you try to download, you'll get a 0kb file size which has an empty zip file

That's the exact reason the complete list says it's not a working link. I've contacted marnetmar about it ages ago both here and at Mods to the Max, but the link hasn't been fixed yet.
