I have a question about the billboards in RCT3. If I have a billboard in my park with a picture from my hard drive on it, and sombody else downloads my park, will they get the same image on the billboards or blank white? For example. I added a custom sign to one of my rides called Python and the billboard has a picture of a snake. If I upload my whole park, by itself, will the downloaders get the picture of the snake, or not.

If you don't provide the picture for them, they will just see the Frontier logo.:)

So yes, if you have a park with custom billboards, it's best to zip the pictures in with the park.

So do the pictures just have to be on their hard drive, or do they have to be in a specific folder. Do they have to specify also which billboards display which images?

I believe they'll have to put them in the folder they want, and they'll have to set which billboard goes where.

But I"m not sure about that one.:)

That really sucks because in a park I want to upload there is a building that is made up of like 100 billboards. They aren't all different images, but if the downloader has to do half the work, it defeats the purpose of giving them my park.

I'm not certain, but if you have your billboard pics in the "My Pictures" folder & the other person downloads them & puts them in their "My Pictures" folder, I think they'll show up, but I haven't tried this to make sure.

No, because the My Pictures is under your first name usually. I'll have to copy all the images into the folder that Beavis and Butthead are in and tell everyone to put the images into that one too.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 uses the windows API call SHGetSpecialFolderLocation to retrieve the location of the My Documents and My Pictures folders.

So as long as everyone has them in the "My Pictures" folder, then they'll show up?

And it seems to work ONLY with "My Pictures"... if the folder is labeled in English . Even if you already have a folder for pictures, if your computer uses a different language (for instance, since I'm in Brazil, my XP is in portuguese), the game ignores the native language and only looks for "My Pictures". You need to add that folder to make the billboards work.

Something to remember for any instructions given when exporting billboards with parks.

Yeah, but say my first name is Bob and the downloader's first name is George. I have the pictures in C:/Documents and Settings/Bob/My Documents/My Pictures. It won't work on George's computer because his name isn't Bob so it won't be the same file directory. See what I mean. His will be George/My Pictures.

Based on what Jonwil has said, the game ignores the "George/Bob" part & only searches for the "My Pictures" folder.

Here's what I do. Just place the pics under C: and load them from there in the game. Instruct users to place it there too. Don't use anything under my documents, because different users will have different usernames for the docs and setings folder.

It would appear as though the "My Pictures" folder is hardcoded in the RCT3 exe file (most likely because the the microsoft recommended way to access it which is to use SHGetSpecialFolderPath with CSIDL_COMMON_PICTURES doesnt work on earlier versions of windows)

Are you saying just putting it in C or on your desktop won't work?
