View Full Version : Answer to scenery that does not work with Wild! (scenery authors read this)

I have come up with a way to modify the scenery without the source files.
However, it is a complex process and requires deep knowledge of the internals of the scenery files (I know how to do it but trying to tell anyone else how would be too hard).

So, I can fix up the scenery.
But I would rather not do it without permission from the scenery authors.
Acording to the notes, the following scenery items still are not compatible with Wild!:
park novice - alton towers
Caffinated - letters
drucifer67 - comic book heroes
park novice - crown leisure logo
park novice - dbski ride logos
pumper - blox
park novice - mini shima
park novice - ploktoon horror set
park novice - pnp food and drink
park novice - pnp wall set
eviron - quidditch
drucifer67 - ride backdrops
park novice - star wars wall set
park novice - superman wall set
park novice - tidus wall set
drucifer67 - top gun wall set
park novice - wardy
park novice - wb logos
park novice - wwe

What I can do (depending on how much free time I have now that I have started real work) is to do the "fix" and then either release the fixed files somewhere or send them to the origonal author to release. (note that this does not affect the functioning of the sets, it just fixes the bug).

Of course, if scenery authors would rather release them in the usual way (by manually re-exporting them), thats fine too.
Scenery authors please post here and tell me what you want to do. (park novice and drucifer67 in particular since you are the ones with the most "not working" scenery, some of which I use in my park)

The advantage of my way is that you dont have to mess with all the steps that you have to take to export the scenery with the latest importer (e.g. making a .scn file for each piece etc)

I think this is a brilliant idea, but as Park Novices seems to keep disappearing, would you mind doing another WB logo if you release his set again?

Here’s what I need, but it seems he never got round to it. (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=500259&highlight=logo)

That sounds good Jonwil, but since most of these creators have pretty much disappeared, I'm not sure when/if they'll even see this message.

I knew you'd figure this one out jonwil! :D

I would like to request the Top Gun set being updated. I don't think the original author is going to, and it is featured extensively in my War of the Worlds attraction in Expo 3000. It's the only set I need updated, besides BLOX, which Pumper will do eventually, I'm sure.

I dont want to release any changed sets without the approval of the author (if nothing else, its a copyright violation to do so and its not a very nice thing to do)

As long as you give them full credit for the objects I don't see anything wrong in doing so. You are just helping them out and at the same time fixing a problem. You could also plug yourself by letting people know that you helped out by updating these objects so they will work in RCT 3 Wild expansion pack.

But helping someone out by fixing a problem and giving them credit why would they care?? Doing them a service as well as others.

jonwil is doing this in the proper way by asking permissions first. Most of them I'm sure will be glad for the help, but since they are the creators it's up to them whether they want this done or not. I certainly don't think jonwill needs to 'plug himself' in any way, shape or form :D !

I understand what you mean Denny about it probably not harming anyone, but rules still have to be followed, and one rule is that you don't alter or use someone else's work without asking them first. Most of them are going to say 'yes', but you still need to ask.

jonwil, maybe you should pm all these authors. I'm sure they will get an e-mail notification if you pm them. I really would like these sets to be updated.

Hi Jonwil,

to my knowlegde the following packs doesn't work with Wild too:

Disney Studio France
Lulujarre Rockn Rollercoaster pack
Lulujarre Toons pack
Lulujarre Star Wars pack
Lulujarre America pack
Lulujarre Safari pack
Lulujarre Chateau Castle

I have tried to work with the America pack and the game chrases with the "SID"-error. But I have also herad that some of the packs should work with Wild!

Maybe Battor77 can help here a lot with a list, cause all this objects are from his site.

Those above packs DO work with Wild! The error you're getting is because they're installed wrong. I had this problem too, but found out that they unzip with an extra folder that needs to be deleted.

Thanks for the hint shyguy. Always the same simple error.

Actually the moderators here have the actual registered emails of the authors even if the authors chose not to be contacted by other users, so the moderators like Marnetmar and Skipper who are actually quite "IN" with the scenerymaking crowd probably could just quickly shoot of a mass generic email to them on behalf of this topic.

Jonwil you are correct to wait until you have the permission by the original Authors. It doesn't make sense they would turn your noble efforts down.

Actually the moderators here don't have access to any e-mails, I would guess the admins could access that information.

I don't know if I have any of the e-mail addresses of any of these people, I'll have to check & see.

Has anyone had any luck contacting Park Novice? He *should* get an automatic email if some one PMs him. It should be someone that he is close with though, so he will be more likely to respond back, even if he feels like he has left the community.

This is pretty late, but I'm all for it. Do whatever you can do/want to do/have the time to do, Jonwil, since there's no telling when I might get around to it. That goes for all three of my scenery packs.

And thanks again for all the effort you've put into custom scenery and making all of this possible.

It's been working with Wilf for quite a long time. Don't be so stupid and revive threads from last year too. I think it's you that's been told it's wrong to all the time, so you should know it by now. It's just getting on peoples nerves. Learn to use the search button.

Hey Phil,

principle you're right, but there's no reason to be so harsh to the people. Take a deep breath and relax ... ;) and be cool

I don't think that it is approriate for you to speak this way on the forums. If the moderators haven't said anything, then why should you concern yourself with it?

Phil, I'm not sure what the problem is, but like RCT-Spanky said, you need to relax. You've been warned.
