Those awnings (in the red and white anyway) would probobly look good alongside some of the KFC logos that others have done.

Excellent work, you've really brought a limited theme into what can be considered as arguably the best theme now in the game.

(Although for some reason theme 1 and 2 crashes my rct3 :P)

Either way, very nice work.

1 suggestion however, could you include on the floor, a little floor breaker to seperate two types of floor. It looks a little messy atm, how you've made it just tile from your pink marble to the brown tiles. It could really do with a piece of wood, or a stone step of some kind to seperate them, that way emphasising the difference from exterrior to interrior.

It would look so much better when/if we get transparent textures, that way you could add a nice trim around the window covers.

Oh, and you'd best add a small door to let the shop keeper out :D

larry241

The new trim and brick look great! The floor tile reminds me of old Burger King. Is the grout color in the tile colorable?
Thanks for the amazing work you keep giving us.

I think the large texure files of 1 and 2 may be the reason your pc crashes. I think they need a LOT of memory. I may be updating them, if I get time. 3 should work. (hopefully)

That's a good idea. The colorable curb piece from set 2 should work for that purpose.

He can just jump over the counter.

. Is the grout color in the tile colorable?

Of course. Everything is always colorable!

The door can fit into any wall piece, just like the windows.

CoasterSim.Fan,

I'm not very good at making my own textures. Most textures I find online or other places. But the ones I find, I have to convert to greyscale in paintshop and then do a lot of altering so they can be colorable in RCT3.

I don't think there are any curved walls on Main Street.

Not any park in this world is made by the Disney-Company. :)
Here is a picture of the "Old Berlin"-Main Street in Phantasialand near Cologne in Germany. As you can see, both buildings on the corner have curved walls.

You are right, not every park in the world is made by the Disney company, but Shyguy is specifically modeling "Main Street USA" from Disneyland, California. He had originally planned on recreating Disneyland in 1955, the year it opened.

The poor guy would die of old age if he tried to recreate every Main Street in the world!!!!

It was also just a suggestion or a wish, because the scenery works perfect with every kind of theme, not only as a mainstreet-scenery. For just that reason i had ask for the curved walls.

No, not yet. This set is becoming VERY large. It will be kind of a "nuts and bolts" set, containing tons of little moulding and window pieces. It will have many similar pieces that were in the 1st set, but there will be half-tile versions and some angled ones as well. Plus 2 new wall sets. You've seen the brick set, so far.

I'm guessing it could be at least 2 or 3 weeks til it's ready. I've got another custom set getting ready for release first, though. :p Expect that one by New Year's.

What about small shops? Peeps may not be able to buy from them, but they'd go really well with decorations. You know, stores like Gap, American Eagle, or EB Games. Maybe even Dippin' Dots. A lot of theme parks have Dippin' Dots.

TallonD1724,

It sounds like the typical symptoms of a scenery pack improperly installed. Check the number of folders in working custom packs and compare to the one you're having trouble with. If there are extra folders, remove them.

ForceWorks

actually i did that when i first installed them
now, there is another sub folde,r THEN the normal folders and it works perfectly, but that is how it was presented in the manual download

The custom counter is part of the Wild! expansion it is just a counter with no theming that you can build walls around and you can set it to sell anything available at a standard shop by selecting from a drop down menu.

Shyguy has just made some scenery tht allows you to blend it in even more with his walls.

the custom counter is the most versatile of all the stalls. The regular food and drink stalls are simply too 'tall', and look ridiculous if you try and wall them in by themselves, without building a foodcourt or elaborate 3 tile structure. The counter lets you create nice looking, 1 tile food shops that fit almost anywhere.

The main street set #1 and #2 are probably my most frequently used sets. I use his clapboards on so many buildings. They just look better than the plain walls or the bricks, and are completely recolorable. The 'sidewalk' piece also makes for excellent flooring or roofing, as it too is recolorable.

Nice job!

Agreed djacoby. I think shyguy has done a excellent job on these two sets. As a new comer here to the forum and new at building custom buildings... I was amazed when I saw some of the pictures that you guys have done with these custom scenery sets. Simply Amazing. So I started downloading some and working on them. And within hours created a bunch of cool buildings:

http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=507559

The sidewaks are pretty cool... would like to see some with some colorable patters etc... this would be great for custom paths for inside scenery.

These are amazing sets. Some minor issues here and there I am trying to work around, such as the ability to place a glass wall behind shyguys big display window. Looks great... but you cant place the window there if you have a path on the tile.

But I simply love these sets.

Tim

You CAN place a window if you have a path on the tile! You need to use the "m brookes" cheat. Just change one of the peeps name to "m brookes" and you can place any walls on the paths. That's how I did the glass. Or, you can use the fake sidewalks in MS Set #2 and put a non-path tile underneath.

A small suggestion;

I advise if your going to add in diagonal pieces, i'd include diagonal pieces for all of your content. For example, i'd love to see a diagonal curtain/cloth/overhang tenty thing.

I do really like that picture though, but it does seem odd having a square building with a diagonal door. I'm liking the new pavement piece too. As well as the overhanging window. Whats the fps like atm in that picture? Hopefully with the changes to your textures, it would seem to have alot better fps.

p.s. i was just looking at the models and i realised there doesn't appear to be any kind of drainage... need some drain pipes about the place.

I love the new wall types. And the corner bay window...drool!

I know it's been said a lot, but thank you for all the hard work you have put into this.

Guybrush47, many old main street corner stores in real life had a diagonal door with an overhang. Corner drug stores were perhaps the most famous. I'm sure Disney imagineers used actual blueprints of real structures when designing Main Street, just adapting them as needed.

I love the new walls very much ... Have stopped some parts of my Shrek-Park until you release this. Can you made this window-type with real glass, too?

Just an suggestion ... If you have ALL your next upcoming sets ready (must be around 100 different sets or so :bulb:  ;) ), you could made a pack with some additional walls and/or scenery that you don't need really for your own Main Street, but other users could need this. i speak about walls with different window types, diagonal and curved wall types that matches the other sets, columnes, bars and other decorative elements ... as I wrote: JUST A SUGGESTION

Awesome, diagonal sidewalks!! I really need them, along with that diagonal doorway. You keep upping the standard bar, and that is a good thing.

BTW for the diagonal sidewalks, are they diagonal on both sides, or just diagonal on one side, with the other side square? Also when you updated your older sets, would you be adding a few more diagonal wall pieces too?

shyguy
01-04-2006, 02:21 PM
I do really like that picture though, but it does seem odd having a square building with a diagonal door.
This is a recreation of the actual building in Disneyland. Most of the corner shops have diagonal entrances.

Hopefully with the changes to your textures, it would seem to have alot better fps.
At this point, there is a mixture of old and new sets. I'll test the fps on it and when I update the new sets I'll check again. Hopefully there will be a difference.

Guybrush47, many old main street corner stores in real life had a diagonal door with an overhang. Corner drug stores were perhaps the most famous.
Great observation, rjg! This building was originally the Upjohn Pharmacy before it became the Clock Shop.

...you could made a pack with some additional walls and/or scenery that you don't need really for your own Main Street, but other users could need this. i speak about walls with different window types, diagonal and curved wall types that matches the other sets, columnes, bars and other decorative elements.
There will be many little odds and ends included in this set that aren't being used in the pics, yet. They are mostly alternate versions of the objects you see, but with lighter or darker palates, taller or shorter versions, etc.

BTW for the diagonal sidewalks, are they diagonal on both sides, or just diagonal on one side, with the other side square? Also when you updated your older sets, would you be adding a few more diagonal wall pieces too?
The diagonal sidewalks are square on one side so they'll fit with the other square pieces. They can be turned in all 4 directions. When the older sets are updated, they will contain a few extra pieces. Not sure about diagonals. I don't want to go overboard with diagonals, as they aren't easy to do and they create problems like peeps walking through them etc.

Thanks for your high quality work. You really have added a lot to the game. The bad thing is that we have to be patient and hold off on some of our construction!

I see you are doing an update to your circus center? Will this be County Fair type tent roofing and extras? If so, that would be great as it is something that is very badly needed in the game.

Atari should put you on payroll. This should have been the next expansion.

Just a thought -- In your pack 2 you made an arcade store front sign. I noticed pop machines were made for decoration what about arcade games to go with the signs??

Also is there any plans to make a clock that would fit in the #m walls for decoration?? This would also be a great addition to your packs.

Great Job Shyguy!!!!! And thank you very much!!!

I have (once again) a small suggestion ...

what I would like to see are walls with a half width of the regular walls.

http://www.klaus-sauer.de/rct/new07.jpg

This walls should fill the gaps between the posts on the right side. So you can build something out of an front, like decorative columns ect. Again just a suggestion.

This is a good idea and I'm considering it. The arcade sign, btw, is not for a game's arcade. "Arcade" simply means "covered walkway". That is actually what the Crystal Arcade in Disneyland is. Just a walkway through the Emporium building.

The "Penny Arcade", on the other hand, IS a game arcade, and when I get to that, I'll look into making some game machines. (maybe)

Fisherman's Victorian trellis work, arches, canopy roofing and Orleans railings are the biggest thing missing from RCT3 that we had in RCT2 in my opinion. They were VERY useful in Victorian, County Fair and Orleans theming.

Hey ShyGuy I was wondering if you could make your path tiles react to the terrain underneath. You see, your tiles are great and that, but you can only use them on flat land, and as many people like to terrain form their parks it comes quite a problem using them. TESTERS WANTED!

The Main Street Set 3 is ready for testing. This is the biggest set yet! There are over 100 pieces! ...although many have multiple versions such as color, mirrored, offset, or angled. This pack is to be used in conjunction with the other packs as there are more versions of many of the objects included in those first 2 packs, like awnings, base mouldings and doorways.

I call this a nuts and bolts pack, because, like the first 2, there are many tiny pieces that can be used together to form hundreds of combinations. Some of the pieces will need explanation as to what they're for or why I created 5 versions of what may appear to be the same piece. I will post this info later. You will also find a few pieces that have already been released in previous packs. I threw them in because it just seemed logical to do so. For example, I created a half tile carpet piece to go with the carpet piece in the Expo Set. So I included the Expo carpet piece in this set as well, to make accessing the 2 pieces easier.

Here is the link for the beta version. Only download this if you intend to test the set. It uses a lot of referencing, and that caused many problems in my Expo Set. I have done some minimal testing, and found a couple pieces that were buggy. They have been fixed and so far, I can't find any more problems.

The best way to test this is to test one piece at a time. Plunk down a few in a park and color them and move them around. Then choose the next piece and do the same. This is the best way to test to see if any of the pieces cause system crashes, which is what will happen if they are improperly referenced.

Main Street Set 3 beta link removed

Let me know if you want to test, and keep me informed on your progress.

Thanks everyone for all your support!

If you just downloaded the pack, and then copied the contents of the ZIP file (The Directory and the two files) into your Style/Themed it's going to crash...

Before continuing, you must delete the Folder and the two OVL files you just placed in the Themed Directory! Then proceed below...

This is because when you installed it wrong the first time, it was missing a folder and it put a couple files in the themed folder outside of the Main Street Folder.

Click on your Themed folder and you'll see all the other scenery folders. That's all that should be there. Look for 2 files by themselves... "style.common.ovl" and "style.unique.ovl". These 2 files are leftover from the Main Street 3 Set and need to be deleted.

Main Street Set 3 beta link removed

Well. So far some people say it crashes and some say it doesn't. This isn't very helpful. I need to know what causes the crash. Try to narrow down a certain piece that might be the cause.

I still think it is the referencing system that causes problems. But sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I've had a couple crashes but when I try to duplicate them, I can't. I may have to remove ALL referencing once again until jonwill can fix this problem. Until then, I will not use referencing on any new packs.

buyinflatables
01-15-2006, 01:23 PM
Hey Shyguy... I'm on a Dell Dimension 9100 and I only had one problem so far... The Hex roof when I first installed. and tried placing each piece. Then a restarted and tried again fro the beginning without a problem... was able to do all pieces.

Because I built a train station with the games brick... I then closed that game.. and went ito rebuild the trainstation in my game. I crashed on just deleting tons of pieces.. and the lkast piece I deleted was a game original brick wall. I tried a new game with your pieces again... I added 20+ of each piece... then tried manually deleting each one. About midway I crashed.

So I think its a memory issue overall and maybe not related to an individual piece. That last pice I crashed on was the Jewelery sign when trying to delete it.

So as long as I dont get crazy with deleting pices... It works for me.
I am rebuilding my train station and will post a pic when done.

Tim

shyguy
01-15-2006, 01:31 PM
Thanks, buyinflatables.

This is the kind of stuff I'm experiencing as well. I believe there is an error in the referencing system that gobbles up memory and causes crashes. One time I was building something with these pieces and I went to add a piece from Iceatc's Timber Set, and the game crashed. Deleting a lot of pieces also causes crashes for me too.

Tell me, were you testing in an empty park or a park with lot's of custom scenery?

iceatcs
01-15-2006, 01:43 PM
yeah that's what I'm thought it is might be a still little bug in imported OVL.
or the RCT3 might be not really fixed due there are lotta of bugs around.

By the look of it this scenery pack's just too big, it should be broken down into lots of smaller packs

computertech82
01-15-2006, 01:51 PM
That's a bummer if it's the referencing. I been testing the size of RCT3 and noticed a full park with almost no custom scenery (just Atari) takes up well over 2GB to 3GB of memory. It looks pretty important to have small files. I had to increase my virtual ram to help with the lag (and it worked). I'm up to 3GB of virtual memory now. I have 1GB ram. I haven't had this set crash the game yet.

How do you increase virtual ram? I've done it before, but since I upgraded to XP, I haven't been able to find where to access this.

By the look of it this scenery pack's just too big, it should be broken down into lots of smaller packs
Is this the reason it's crashing? Is that what you've come up with after extensive testing?

Shyguy,
Your set worked perfectly for me. I used every piece in your set at least once. Everything fit well together and with other sets. I used pieces from all in game sets and some custom scenery sets. I used your set in an existing and new sandbox park. I put your sets on the paths and with rides and there were no problems. I also deleted every piece from your set right after and I had no troubles. My computer didnt even lag or freeze once. Everything worked fine for me so I hope your hard work will turn out great as always. Thank you for the time you have put in this set, it is an amazing set that has been worth the wait. Thanks again!

Typically, the objects that cause crashes are the ones that are being referenced. I'v never had the objects doing the referencing crash.

In other words....One of the wall-mountable windows is being used as a reference for all the others. So, it would make sense to find that one piece causing the crashes, but not all of them.

Could someone else please test the wall-mountable windows to see if they get crashes too?

One thing i noticed about the free standing, mountable windows is that they disappear a little too fast when moving back. Is this because of the polygons, or because they are small? Would attaching them to an invisibile wall like some of the other pieces help that at all?

But then I have tried it two more times, and I have used every single piece (at least I think so, there's a LOT...:) ), and everything has run smoothly... This has been in an empty sandbox.

And by the way... This set must be the best set ever. So many useful, beautiful, versatile, worthwhile pieces... Thank you, Shyguy, again...

It's because they're small. The invisible wall helps, but takes up more memory and makes editing other objects near the window difficult.
Maybe try changing your detail level and draw distance in the buildings slider to see if it helps.

Here is a new version of the set. I have made some minor changes, so I don't think it's completely fixed yet. But I need you guys to tell me exactly what piece makes the game crash. Example: "Small Window - Offset 2".

Please, make sure that you can create the crash a second time. Because sometimes, it can just be a lack of memory in your system. It is best to start testing from a newly booted machine. If you have been using other programs or even surfing the internet, your leftover memory may not be enough to handle custom scenery.

I will have crashes on my computer when trying to play RTC3 if I've just been on the internet, or I have Photoshop open, etc. When I re-boot, and do the same thing in RCT3, it doesn't crash.

So, what I'm saying is, you may get crashes and there's just nothing I can do about it. There's a reason Frontier is NOT supporting custom scenery.

If a certain piece is causing a crash over and over, I can probably fix it. On the other hand, if the pack crashes once in a while, but it doesn't seem to be a certain piece causing it, then it's probably more than likely, your system or memory causing it, in combination with an unstable piece of software (RCT3) AND the custom scenery.

Here's the new version. You MUST completely delete the old Main Street Set 3 before installing the new one, or possible corrupted files will still be there.

Main Street Set 3 beta version 2 link removed

Please let me know if there's any improvement, and give detailed descriptions of what you did to cause a crash, what exact piece caused it, and if it happened a 2nd time.

Thanks everyone.

First of all, I love all the packs! Especially the fact that the items are more freely usable and the bigger variety of sizes, great!

I just downloaded the new beta-version and it seems to run very smooth... I also tried to combine it with your other 2 scenery packs, and that was not a problem as well.

Being a new kid on the forum I hardly have any right in complaining/nagging, but as a graphic designer a just had to, I'm sorry, :hitting-self:

Is it possible to make the window-hexagonal a little bit higher, so it will align with the base moulding? (see picture)

I have installed the new beta (off curse i have delete the old files before) and it crashes again.

It's always the same object. I have managed to press the F10-button and made a screen-shot before the game crashed again.

http://www.klaus-sauer.de/rct/post/crash.jpg

The game has crashed 3 times, always with the same piece, always on the same place. I have build the brick-walls before, saved the game, build the window ... crash ... start the game again, build the window .... crash ... start the game again, build the window, press F10 ... crash. Hope this helped.

RCT-Spanky,

That helps a lot! That piece is one of the referenced pieces, which helps to prove my point that referencing is buggy and unreliable. I'll remove all refernecing from that piece, which should fix that problem.

marnetmar
01-17-2006, 08:48 PM
shyguy, I wonder if maybe it's just that reference on that one prop, since the others seem to be working for people. I have about 8 (I think) props in my Egypt theme using references & they all work fine. You might double check that one piece's setting to make sure it's ok.

shyguy
01-17-2006, 09:26 PM
Marnetmar,

That is the piece that has the textures loaded. All the other pieces are referenced off of it.

All the pieces that have been crashing my sets have always been the "regular" piece that isn't using another piece to reference the texture. To clarify... Plain Window was the first piece I made. I loaded the textures as normal. Then I made Plain Window offset 1, 2, etc. These pieces reference the first. These other pieces work fine. When I re-import all the offsets pieces without referencing the Plain Window then the Plain Window stops causing the crash.

marnetmar
01-17-2006, 09:34 PM
That's weird, I didn't realize that was the piece you were using to reference. I have no idea why it would do that, maybe Jonwil can figure it out.

Ok Its Works For Me All The Pices If Some Body Says The Pack Dose Not Work For Them Then Its Ther Computer

You really can't say that. If a piece of scenery doesn't work then it is a problem with that piece and needs to be fixed. You can’t say something is fine if you only try it on one computer, that’s why Shyguy wants other people to test it. Think before you post.

shyguy
01-18-2006, 02:31 PM
Well, I think I may know what the problem is. Referencing seems to work when the source object is comprised of only one mesh and one bitmap.

So far, it seems that the objects that are causing crashes ALL the time are ones that have more than one mesh or bitmap. I think the program gets confused and causes a crash. I still don't know why it crashes on the object being referenced, and not all the other objects that are using the object as a reference.

The other random crashes that are occuring most probably have to do with lack of memory. After using 3D max, RCT3 frequently crashes on me when I'm using custom scenery. Both programs are major memory hogs and using custom scenery also uses more memory than the default pieces that came with the game. (I think.)

With that said, here is another version. Delete the old version and try this one out.

Second release worked perfectly with me, downloading third... Hey shyguy, any chance on geting more angled pieces? You kinda reach a halt when making an angled entrance with the doorway, because you can't extend out the face to the side or up. Would be nice to have some angled walls, windows, and roof fences. ;) Just a hopeful thought.

shyguy
01-19-2006, 02:50 AM
dav_for_pres,

I'm not too keen on making a lot of angled pieces. And the reason being personified by your request. Once I make a couple pieces, then people will want more walls, and then windows to fit the walls, and then awnings, and then trim pieces, and so on and so on.

You can probably expect a few more angled pieces, but only when it's absolutely neccessary to recreate a certain building I'm making on Main Street.

...and it's a pleasure to tell you, that the latest release works perfect. I have testet it the whole night and the game didn't crash anymore.

Shyguy, can you post all the details of your problems and work with texture sharing into the other thread I made please?
I have some theories as to why its doing what its doing and some possible ideas for improvements to the importer (basicly, textures that are to be shared would go into a seperate ovl file that doesnt contain any 3D models but is still pulled in with the theme) but any info you can provide might help me figure it out.

I downloaded your official released version of the park from you site at saber. Com. I have to say the pieces look awesome but they keep crashing my game (all your other sets work fine for me) especially the brick wall (the first brick type on the list). Just as an idea are you sure that you uploaded the newest version to saber and are you still using references. If the problem might be on my side does any one know what I can do to fix it because I really want to use this set.

shyguy
01-22-2006, 01:03 AM
CoasterSim.Fan,

Yes, I am still using referencing on some pieces. I left it on the pieces that didn't seem to be causing any problems. I think referencing uses more memory than other pieces, which can cause problems for some. I would try re-booting your computer to clean out the memory and try again. If you continue to have problems, then I guess you can look forward to Main Street Set 3, Patch #1. :bulb:

jonwil

Referencing should use less memory than not using it since you only have one copy of <some texture> instead of multiple copies.

Your set is excellent as usual, shyguy, but unfortunately I am having crash problems just like CoasterSim.Fan is. For me it is the floor tiles; after I place a couple of them on the floor, the game crashes after a few seconds.
