If it is OK with you, I am going to make a pack for ALL custom scenery, Only those updated for Wild!.
Also, please give me the link to your custom scenery.
.zips only.
This will NOT install the zips to the RCT3/style folder, but will install all the zips and a Main Program. It will be smaller that downloading all.

I'd be careful AngelSL, several object creators have already requested people not distribute their work other than from the host site. Not saying that this is a bad idea, just that you want to be careful.

I did ask for permission, didn't I?

12-21-2005, 09:05 AM
Yes you did. And I just suggested being careful and said it wasn't a bad idea, didn't I?

You did. NOTICE: Please leave your replys before tomorrow, as i'm not waiting for 1 week just for this. Also, Scenery that are listed after 1 day will be included in Pack 2. I will NOT make one for the non-updateds, as ALOT are already updated for Wild!.
I am still waiting. QUICK.

I trust you will be only including sets if the author responds and gives you permission, i.e. don't interpret silence as permission.

Anyway, please do not include my sets in this amalgamated pack. There are a couple of reasons why:

1) My sets have their own installer that does not require the user to have any knowledge of where RCT3 is installed or what folder custom scenery should go in. Using this type of install method has cut the number of support questions I have had to answer by about 90%.

2) If somebody installs a 'super pack' and starts having problems with their game, they have no idea what might be causing it. Installing one pack at a time gives them a chance of narrowing it down and contacting the author or reading that mod's thread for answers.

3) Custom packs are frequently updated. Are you really going to track every author's progress of every included set and update the 'super pack', then expect everyone to download the whole thing again to change one set within it? No offense, I'm sure you have good intentions, but to me it sounds like a system that can easily become outdated or out of sync.

...just my 2, errr, 3 cent's worth!

Well, This pack does NOT install the custom Scenery, but installs the ZIP. It installs the zip and a main program that launches WinZip/other stuff. It may be smaller than downloading all.

Hosting on your site with all custom sceneries in the zip is seemed to fine with me. It is might be easy for noobies - because they will able to see the files where these are suppose be. For example one folder name (any one of custom scenery) can be make many mistake from extracted the zip which it could be made another same file name make it one dir extra on the themed folder that it deffo cause crashing in the game.

I have a question which is similar but not the same and it didn't warrant it's onw thread. I own an Alton Towers fan website called Alton Towers Mania (www.atmania.com) and i am currently working on an RCT3 recreation of the park. This is a recreation that i have taken over control from a friend. I have currently used quite a few pieces of custom scenery in this park and as some of the people who visit my site and would like to run this park in rct3 when it is complete don't know about custom scenery and all that. How would i go about telling them which packs to get, where to get them and how to install them?

I like the idea, it will be especially be helpful for new members. Although I donít approve of you hosting it on your forums, itís the fact you have to sign up to access them. I am not sure, but I think this counts of advertising.

But, i'm just telling him to upload it on my forum so i can download it.

As a new member... It would be extremely helpful if there was a central location... or depository for all custom scenery, scenerios, parks, coasters etc. I thought that was part of the framework of this forum for file exchanges... While there is a lot of great stuff posted on here... many of them are linked all over in different threads etc and it can be hard for a new person like myself to find them. So one location... either with just links to the designer's websites or their files would be good. Maybe like a download catalog.

I would be willing to host one if you all think thats a good idea?

I can create a website (Have dedicated hosting server) that can have a domain like RCT3catalog.com or something.

When you log in there will be different categories...

Coasters, Parks, Scenerios, Custom Scenery Packs, Pre-Fab Buildings,

When clicked on... It shows images and brief descriptions of the items... and either links to the files for downloads or I can host the files too.

Let me know your thoughts.... maybe Angle and I can do this together. And being that we are just linking to designer's content (with their permission) or host content provided by the designers... there's no issue with infringing on a designer's rights... and its one location that you can find anything that is out there.

Let meknow your thoughts.

Great, do it!

I have to agree with Klinn on this one, having a bunch of stuff together can cause problems if something starts crashing peoples game & then they have to figure out what's causing the problem.

I've been asked about this same sort of thing before several times & have declined then & will decline now. Thanks for the offer though.

I dont want to put all the files together as a big download... A catalog is what I think would be good. Where people can download a designer's individual file or be linked to the designers website for retrievingthe file.

So in short... a more organized listing then whats provided here on the forum where one has to search and search for stuff. Easy index of info.

Awhile back someone started the same thing & it never got finished, but RCT-Spanky has one started HERE (http://www.klaus-sauer.de/rct/rct3-scenery.html)

AngelSL It would be very nice to have a one stop place for all custom scenery sets but I do agree that one big pack might not work to good there is a lot of custom scenery and if some one has a slow machine it might cause havoc with there game and than they would have to use no custom scenery. AngelSL this was a good idea and pleas donít be discouraged unfortunately it just doesnít seam like it would work at this time if you would like to make a directory were people can pick which scenery they want to download that would be very useful to the community.
