Hello all! this is a little mixmaster show that I made quickly at the weekend. Due to my love for Muse music, I made this with the song:.......

Butterflies and Hurricanes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM-H81srDlU)

PLAY THIS VIDEO VERY LOUD

You need to get some custom fireworks.Your shows would be much better.

Right, so you're suggesting that for ME to improve I have to get SOMEONE ELSE'S fireworks? If you want to give me real suggestions then go ahead. I accept critisism if it involves a suggestion for improvement though.

I don't download custom anything. I either make my own fireworks or use the existing ones. My own fireworks were lost when my PC broke a few months ago.

Anyway, it's fair enough that you don't like it Pyro. I suppose I only think it's amazing because of the song is amazing.:)

However, whoever this guy is who posted on youtube is just plain rude. Can someone find out who he is on this forum, so I can tell him my mind.
Sorry to say that, but this vid sucks ass.
A lightshow has to be synced with the music, and your lightshow is just totally off, u overdid it in many ways. try again.

Well, don't get too put out now - he has a very valid point. You do need some custom fireworks...realistic fireworks to make good shows. Thats all there is to it. But i think i can go deeper for you if you want the criticism:

First off - Too much going on in your stage. You have water jets, which do very well, and light towers, which are also good. But then you have a waterfall in the back, and worst off - its lit up. When you make the stage for a show, you need to make it as dark as possible. Sometimes there is a need for light, but more often than not, its much more effective to keep everything dark until showtime. Lastly - your waterjet lagoon is lit up too - really bad choice here. When you have water columns essentially being lit up underneath by lights, the worst thing that you can do is light up the area around. Each water jet needs to have an absence of ambience light in order to be effective. Now that its lit up with a steady aqua light, the impact of the waterjet is lost - and thus, the show suffers. Do you know what i mean?

at 1:34 in your vid - the fireworks kick in, but they are all frontal. When in a show have you seen large fireworks that launch 50 ft in front of you? The point I'm trying to stress is that your entire show is too frontal (meaning every effect is up close and in the same area). When you do this, you lose half of the explosions off camera, and the illusion of space is lost. If you move your pyro mortars back behind your main stage, you'd have a whole lot more room to play with the fireworks - instead of columns of sparks, you'd get full explosions.

The lights are not working because of the same idea - theyre too close to the viewer. And they're not really synced all that much to the music - they're just more or less there. Nothing in this show really syncs tightly with Butterflies and Hurricanes (my favorite song on the album) - and its a shame because it has real potential to be a good show.

I think its a good attempt at a show - but i think its trying to be too much too fast. If its going to be a water show - then let it be a water show with minimal use of the lasers. If its going to be a fireworks show - then dont use the fountains - OR - just use fountains in one section.

But i think more importantly than everything else - don't put light on your stage. It kills the show before it can even begin.

I worked with Muse music as part of my Summer Kickoff Show for 2006 (Hyper Music) and it worked out really well. I hope you continue with shows - and I hope i helped you a little bit. If you need inspiration - look at real shows. Youtube is a great resource. Also - check out rctpyro.co.uk for videos of shows other people have done. There is a wealth of resources!

Very great thanks :). That, unlike the first reply, will help me. This is actually for a competition, where I have to use water, lasers and fireworks. To be honest I think this could have been improved. The idea of having a stage was a late edition to the show, and the camera was only moved right up to it because I couldn't see the water well enough. This was my first ever show on a large scale and this was mostly an experiment. If I do another show, I'll take your advice :).
Thanks, Hethetheth

there was just too much going on at once. Like n747 said, just take out the unneccesary stuff.

Ok Rtoups, I'll keep that in mind. I doubt I'll ever do any more Mixmaster shows, i'm just not very good at them. My rides work better with my mixmaster effects.

You just have to spend time, and find a good song that has a steady beat. This was a good song and it keeps a steady beat. If you keep that beat in your head you could have a firework or laser go off on that beat. My shows that i attepted that i have posted but not released, were not synchronized. Almost a year later im trying to again. It takes tons and tons of time, but if you get it you get a perfect show. A big factor is the stage area, your stage area was very good! But the lights do kill it. For mine the i have a big lake area, with mountains pretty far away, yes the mountains are pre lit, but its not super bright and it doesn't flash. If you do decide to re-do this turn off the user interface! All you do is put in a peep name cheat. Its pretty simple! Anyways whatever you do good luck!
