This is NOT like the tower ride in game at which you can set your own heights, as that isn't currently possible.

Modelling will be done in C4D, as you can see the basics, there, plans for the seats are:

2 sit down tilting
1 Sit down normal
1 Stand Up, Floorless, Tilting

WOW I noticed the new importer and wounderd how long others would start attempting it.

Nice idea with new rides rather then just trying to alter exsisting ones.

Good luck with it and cant wait to see it develop.

Yeah this is a nice idea but don't you think that the stand up one will be a little over g's but that's my opinion because I have never seen a stand up launch tower.

2 things, as Shaun has said I've done basics already today (Nothing worth posting)

2. Have you on your own imported a ride ON YOUR OWN without help other than the guide? Last I knew Belgabor was kindly importing your ride for you.

Here's a bit of an update, textures on all the models will be changed but I've just made an over arm restrain from, 5 and 6 sided cylinders, still working on optimizing this even more though.

One hint, I'd remove the handles from the restraints. The peeps are very heterogeneous considering their hand's positions, you can always match only some "exactly", so it's usually not worth the effort to add that intricate details.

I personally would have adviced you to spend a long time looking through the tutorial not just a few hours. Making sure you know how it is done perfectly before even posting on atari. I dont post anything about my scenery or Cfr's until they are fully/ near complete.
Stu's cfr was posted now because it is known how to import them and even tho stu didnt know belgabor did, However Stu is learning at the same time to use a brand new software (blender instead of SU)

The Harnesses are too many poly and can be reduced greatly. Reference to Rct3 rides with harnesses they are pretty low poly and look good.

well for that matter even the harnesses on the rides in RCT1 looked good so that just goes to show that you can use a very minimal amount and make it look awesome.

heh well saying that^ i saw someone on TPB3D make it all from alphas, 8 polygons each restraint, 6 for main shoulder bit and 1 each for handles.... and no offence but it looked better than that (although he did spend quite a while perfecting the texture) but becouse of the alphas you can make it look more rounded than using polygons.

I could probably animate them to go up at different times, it'd always be in the same order though.

there is no rule to say you cannot say something about someone's work about improving it, if you do not improve things then everything would be crap quality, you would be sitting at a computer with a screen resolution of 64x64. no one is saying what anyone can or cant do, it is more what is easiest/best and how to improve things.

no one said here that he does not know what he is doing, i just have a hard time believing that someone can read a whole 27 page book and understand it and learn a whole new program (blender) and all the things with it between Today, 08:43 AM (when SR3D saw the release of the new importer) and Today 03:36 PM when this thread was started. ;)

I think peaple are slighty over reacting to this. If the man wants to do it let him.

Your all moaning about poly counts ect. How many are you going to use more then one in your park? How many of you actully let peeps in or have the game playing whilst building? Most will only use one and therefore I dont see it being a problem *Prepairs for the knock downs*

I for one will be greatfull for the custom ride as it yet adds more realism and possibilyties to the game witch everyone os forever craving. And just as a thought for those few of you. Theres a diffrence between constructive critism and knocking someone down because there stepping in your limlight as it were. Theres more then one that can and will do custom whatever they want to.

^ I don't find the poly count a problem at all. Actually, I see places where I think more polys would be a nice improvment. (maybe make the ring at the top have a few more polys? It doesn't look round enough imo)

It appears that someone here dosn't like the fact that they are not the only one able to do this.
Now, I respect you stu for everything you'v made and bought to the community but what you are saying is just not cool. Let Chris have a go and we'll soon find out weather he can or can't successfully make this.

As for the ride, it's looking great Chris. Can't wait to see how this goes for you. And don't give up due to a few sour people. Everyone else is behind you with this.

That wasn't what I was annoyed with. Saying he should try something simpler (for lack of better words) isn't constructive. Waiting to see what happens (We've only seen 2 freaking pictures and people are already on his case) and then if it looks like he's having trouble, then it would be a good time for a suggestion to try something simpler.

I know about constructive criticism. People have hated me here because of it. Implying that he doesn't know what he's doing isn't.

He can't do that, it's a flat ride. The tower rides in the game are tracked rides.

At the end of the day you can ALL jump on my back and tell me I'm harsh or whatever else you may conclude i might be, and you can all have a go at me for it. Thing is though that what i say is often right in one way or another, it just might be a shock for some people as most people of this forum are used to : "this looks awesome" "is it released yet" or "can you make this <pic>" on their threads.

I'm sure if your employer said "you need a bit more of this, to read up on this and to loose that" to one of your projects, you probably wouldn't doubt him/her.

i don't plan on being respected for my work, to be cool or popular for what i do and i certainly do care what other people can do in regards to me, what i do care about however is that i do my work to the best of MY abilities and not just of those who think it is good enough for them to download. i also give time to go around the forum and check if anyone else could improve and give what i know to them in hope for them to improve what they are doing. not all improvements are quick and easy to do.

Chris, to be safe, I would put a big notice on the first page of your thread so you don't keep getting the same questions repetitively. Trust me, once you have to answer the same question over and over again, it gets very aggravating.

Been working more on the seats, need to fix the poly a bit where the join is but other than that it's nearly done, just the guard on the sides to add :)

While I usually say to reduce polygons as much as possible, don't cross the line where it looks like crap ;)
I would suggest to save one side on the profile of the restraints (ie make them triangular) and give them a few more for the shape.

Finally I did not take any offense about helping stu. I know that it's not easy to pull this off, especially if you don't know Blender. But creating a good model like his is is also a lot of work. And despite having to get to know Blender for it, he insisted on doing the main animation himself.
And there is one thing I absolutely have to agree with him, do test imports as soon as possible (as a flat ride, not as CS). Not because I doubt you, but because there are lots of ways to **** up in subtle ways that can cause you to loose a lot of work if not caught early. I or other people have gone through this, that's where many of the warnings in the tutorial come from :p
The only way to prevent falling into one of the pitfalls is to watch it in game:
- Before fully rigging, see that you got the size right. The only way to do that properly is to have peeps actually sit on their places. This step includes messing with the peep effect bones to get them right. -> Having to resize usually messes up your armature and always messes up your animations.
- Do simple test animations first to check everything moves in the correct direction

i have to ask something... how come the main tower is 180 polygons? the model seems so basic however it is quite a lot for what is there

OH, so, when peeps get on they wont drop randomly? It would be more realistic if it all went up as one, and one drop, then another, then another. Thats how the real ones do.


I like the new cars... Couldn't you maybe make the seat thicker? They look so thin! lol.

Also, ( I know I don't know CS well yet) but you could probably make it look better. Maybe im wrong. I don't know as much as you yet! I haven't really worked on CS at the moment.

I might go further than Belgabor on my frugality w/ faces, and make a cross section with a look like a +, with the double sided texture setting. From any distance farther than a foot, it will look just fine, though not as "full" as higher poly models. Otherwise, congratulations for attempting this. I hope it turns out well, and thanks for showing us this.

At Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom I rode one about 10 times.
The day after it severed a girl my age's feet.
:eek: I was at Worlds of Fun the day that happened, Detonator was closed a few hours even though it was a different model. The person at the entrance said it was due to a "major accident" at another park. :sour:

200ft ish will be the medium size one, the large one (The one I'll be importing first been as that's the one I need myself... and this is a bonus for me releasing it :p ) is 328ft, then I'll import the medium one (200ft) and small one hopefully around 150ft.

Yes there are actualy tracked rides...i have the pitch black ghost train version...its not anew ride but if someone could use that technology to make a completely new tracked ride then yes it would b possible...

I wouldn't be surprised if the Tower Rides are figured out in the near future. Seeing as the person who made the CTR maker, Markus Lomberg, has gotten a proper custom car into the game, fully custom rides and cars shouldn't be too far off. I hope it happens soon, since I would love to have this ride be height adjustable; would save a lot of room in the rides menu.

Ok, RCT3 crashes with more than 30 meshes, and thinking this has...200 odd atm I need to resort the grouping out.. so slight delay, nothing major though :)

The mesh settings in regard to this consist of the texture (name), the texture style, flags, double-sidedness, transparency and the normal fudging. If two meshes share all of those, they can be considered one for importing into RCT3. For the import into RCT3, the bone assignment doesn't matter, the importer can merge meshes assigned to different bones. But you still cannot assign one mesh in a model file to more than one bone in the importer.

Regrouping it, 250 down to 30 :bulb: (Sketchup's fault........didn't export all the groups...then it exported all the black lines as well ERGH)

You know the backboards on the seats could you make them stripy like the pictures suggested? Also i dont know why but all the CFRs have just single colour panels. In game ones and realisistic one have gradients and patterns so i was wondering why itg hasnt been done.

Im glad your making this because the ingame skyshots are getting too unrealistic everytime i look at them. I went on Apocalypse at Drayton Manor. Thats 200ft and its a freefall standing up tower. Scariest thing ive ever been on. You think you going to mash your head on thwe building rim but then the carriage tilts back inwards again (Because it tilts you forwards by 20 degrees) just as you fly into the station house.

BTW - Do we have to add our own camera turrets at the top ourselves?

It will be finished, I've just got the importing (Including animation) to do. and that's it.

Once its ingame i might have a look at making custom cameras for it myself :P I like making my own cs to add to other peoples things :P I was gona say maybe a ride event but if its all 1 tower you couldnt put on a section so it flashes? So maybe just a cs bit with a camera and a board around it saying smile :D

Dead Angel: Unfortunately a ride event wouldn't work on this. however it'll loop the timings anyway, meaning the camera could be an animated CSO timed.

WOW!...the cars do look great but the tower tube is definitely larger than the real rides. Even the six-car versions have the cars nearly touching all the way around. And I think the four-car ones like Pitt Fall actually have skinnier towers.

Recolourable yes, Lights no, I'll make a CSO light for on the top for it though.

Status update:

IN BLENDER, adding effects points, and rigging/animating the model has been scaled down on the main tower as well :)

possibly, I'm redoing the whole bones structure though, which is gonna be a pain, then it's reanimate what I'd animate and import. My graphics card is giving me major problems, and tbh atm when it is working I'm usually distracted by Crysis :p

Well I'vbe hot a slight problem again, same problem as last time where the axis on the end of the armature is messed up, even setting it to local, luckily i won't have to re-rig it this time, just gotta fix this first 1, then use the same technique on the others.

cool! really, I'm not the only "person?" who waits for finish my recreation, so I decided to release it on october (this month). I said in other forums that this tower can be in the park, but not sure. I hope that Can be real and not only a rumour lol.

The angle to the seat, in all the other 3d apps I've used the axis rotates to the same way as the model (Which is the 45 degree seats) there. otherwise I get a very crooked animation.

It that pic you have only the bone tail selected, that doesn't have a direction =)
