OK, i couldn't bare not to post this, i am so exited for this one because i started it two days ago (the research anyway) and it already looks good. :D

am not going to post the model yet, i would like to get some more texturing done first because at the moment it is just a car.

the ride was created by Sartori. the ride has 14 cars holding 2 people in each car. the ride is a family ride and makes peeps jump for joy after every ride.

i think i may have given too much away, here is a massive clue:

this ride may take a while, it is mainly texture based and the animation will be much harder than that of my last ride too. so do not expect anything big for a while, i am still working on releasing some of my other stuff (most is about 95% done ;))

i must admit though, although rides are hard, frustrating and generally hard work, i think i like it more, there is one object, and one icon (i hate icons)

i don't use a tool, i use keypad. BTW, please dont ask me questions about blender on my thread 1. i do not know that much about blender and 2. its not the place to ask, belgabor has some links in his sig full of info about blender ;)

I think i know what this ride is and i think it will go nice in my park what i am doing, and my new park what i am doing is called British Fairground and i want to know if you could do rides that travel the uk, because it would be amazing if you could, so is it ok with you if i send you a pm about which rides that i want.

no, sorry, i am not doing requests, if you have a list it would take a year to do them all, CFR's are not quick projects you know ;)

Yeah i know that mate, i know it would take a long time to do them, there are only 2 rides that i want doing one of them is called The Bling and the other one is called Sea Storm.

I know what it is! Its veryeasy if you have been to many fairs have gottten on evyride, I cant wait to see how you pull this off Stu, the madhouse was incredible, and trippy, I bet this will be better.

i have spent, must be 2 hours now, mapping the car (just to find out i am going to need a bigger texture therefore i am going to loose all my mapping when i make the texture bigger)

That's good. I would have had to refuse the cookies anyway because they contain dairy and eggs. It wasn't much of a surprise either. Just google "Sartori," enter their webpage and you'll find it within seconds.

Stu- texture mapping should remain the same as long as the image layout is the same from one resolution to another. This is actually an important step in making LODs: not only should you have more poly for higher detail levels and less for lower ones, you should also use a smaller texture for at least the lowest detail level...

Noce start on this one, BTW ;)

the things need to be different sizes on the larger texture though, thats why i made space, becouse there wasn't enough room on the small one ;)

i have been out all day so that will probbaly be the only update for today unless haviong some food makes me feel better, anyways, when i was out today i got some pictures of the real thing (with my phone so try ignore the quality)

this is slightly different to the version i am making, there is a two seat version and a three seat version, i am making the two seat version with parts of the three seat mixed in ;)

don't worry about the colours, it should be recolourable ;) (the red green and blue bits on my model anyway :D)

Depends on the working time working speed and details.

If you are working on it the whole day, you work very fast and don't mind the details you'll be done prewtty fast, but if you take brakes ( like you should), you work middle good, and watch the details it will take some longer.

yes i can tell u but i don't see why :p

the last flat ride i made was my first, i worked on it about an hour a day for the first three weeks, then i lost interest so i ended up doing about 3 hours per week, near the end in the last two days it ended up being 2 hours a day. the total length was about 3 and a half months, but if you remove all the breaks it would probably be two weeks if you didn't sleep and worked on it non-stop

this ride i already had part of a model made becouse i made a quick model of it when i first started modelling, so i basically traced the shape of it and made it better which i did in one day which i worked about 2-3 hours on it. from then on wards i started adding to the basic shape and making textures (that is really what takes so long) so i spent most of the day doing textures (without that many breaks) i then spent most of Wednesday mapping the textures (which took ages in sketchup)....

BTW, does anyone have any good pictures or know the name of those faceted lights on the arms of the techno jump in the picture?

Just one suggestion: I would make the texture with the colourrange over the whole arm and make the lights as an alpha texture on a seperate polygon. So you can recolour the whole ride and it will looks more like the original. Hope you understand what I mean.

yea i do, its hard to do though you see... at the moment i have one big alpha texture for the whole thing (i might manage one texture for the whole ride)

i tried it with the colourange on all of it and it doesn't look half as crisp and nice as the one at the moment so i just left it as it is;)

if i made the lights on a separate face, it would add about 6 polygons to the arm (becouse there is three sides with lights) at the moment, a single arm with restraints are 82 polygons, that means 82*14=1148 without the extra 6 polygons :p.
also there is a restriction to 30 meshes for RCT3, if i have 14 arms, that is 14 meshes, then there is 14 restraints, a centre spindle and a non-moving mesh, that is my quota of meshes gone already, so i haven't got any remaining meshes to do something like that with :p and at the end of the day there is only three colour choices..

i suppose i could make the gradient on the arm going from red to green and then having the blue colour as the arm, that would make the whole arm recolourable... would that be better? :up: i still have to change the colours of the lights to recolourable colours, but i don't know if it would be better as normal white..

wow, it didnt seem like that much when i was typing it :p

Ah man those rides are so funny.
I crushed my brother completley on one once when you can't help but slide across the seat. Then the song "Jump around" came on and he was all crazy and angry...it was really funny.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is I'm excited about this. I was just about to download your madhouse ride when I saw this thread.

One question. Do the lights on the shot at the top actually work? They look like they're just part of the texture but I'm not sure.

Yeah that makes sense. Would they flicker as well for being so close together? Still, an animated texture is cool :)

This is a concidence! I only just went on one of these rides when I was in Brighton. They have this great one on the pier and it was a great laugh with my friends. Looking forward to using it in game!

parent them to the arm they sit on -> no need to animate them individually.

Does that make it a good idea to make all of them effect bones? no.

slight problem on that one, i need to think how to sort that out... i am not having them seperate meshes though, there is no need.. it is still all one texture though :D

But I was totally overstrained with all the technical details about the meshes etc. You can't imagine how many respect I have for you guys, who did this wonderful things.

I see something similar to RCT2. At the beginning it was just posible to make some simple objects, then they began with animated objects, then they start with flat rides and end up with coasters .... and then came RCT3 ... so if you hurry and start with building coasters ... RCT4 couldn't be so far away ;) ... perhaps!

Well, you can use bone constraints to make such a piston move/work automatically when you animate the arm.

I suggest that the pistonsare mearly a child of the cylinder- to create them, simply align the piston vertical and add translations to the piston in the correct timing points. then you simply add rotations to the cylinder. That's how I did the manual animation for the steam engine in my Gizmos set (though the piston is actually attached to the wheel's drive arm instead of the cylinder).

thanks for the help belgabor + vodhin, i think i will leave everything in loose groups untill i have finished modeling, then i will go from there ;) i can group and sort out stuff like that just before i move modelers

small update: you may want to ignore the top section, it may be removed becouse it causes a lot of polygons however i am still thinking about how i am going to do the top part.

also the lights are now a seperate mesh too (they have to be anyway) so it causes a few more polygons but will mjake it look better in the long run. i just noticed alpha textures cause the Xray effect in SU too :p the arches are alpha if you were wondering

umm.. no, i would rather not make 100 different rides each with a different theme... i think it would be more sensible to have a genric one.

I think just leave the top part bare. That means people can theme it to what they would like. I think it would be very useful. Good job so far!

Why you ask:bulb:?An Optional version leaves the player to add his own top piece(statues,fountains,other CS etc.)

...I've never tried a CFR before,so please spot my claim's flaws if there are any.:downcast:

sounds good but i think a top with flashing lights like the real one would look better and match the theme of the rest of the model better, also it might look a bit funny that the ride is spinning and the centre piece would not :haha:

I think that you would have to make superior part of techno-jump flat, like in the photo of arthurr and like already have suggested before, to be able to put each the object or item that like and it is not necessary that this one spin. :160:

i can never actually see the difference between park and trailer models (probably becouse i probbly havent seen a proper park model) but all the ones i have seen seem to have had the strobes, it does add around 190 polygons to the mix though, but i am sure they will look good after, maybe i could put them as seperate and they would go on and off at random intervals..

i tested it in rct3, i found out 1. i need to re-map some places, 2. i can get rid of the lioghts on the back of the cars and 3. i can darken most of the textures.

YAY! I love these rides they're awesome. I went on one at the pleasure beach in great yarmouth and I kept coming out of my seat, when it goes up and down the seat moved and I stayed in the air for a bit but then I dropped. It was awesome. Can't wait to put it in one of my parks.

You can fully animate it (the arms), just leave the pistons alone. But make sure every piston has his own two meshes (arm and shell).

small update, i just shoved the model into blender and i am now re assigning the texture (there is only one :p) and renaming and sorting the meshes, i am half way though the arms (5 sections per arm)

i do not think i will be doing the platform, it is more work, adds more polygons and i do not personally go much on it, afterall, i do not really want to make it a clone... then i cant add "my touch" to it :haha:

most of the ones i have seen have those platforms under the feet, it is so the floor is even becouse otherwise it would rock back and forth (i think)

The tutorial PDF covers 90% of it of what you just asked for there, especially the highlighted bits. :bored:

yea, it is so clear that you had to ask me, ckef, and imaginer how to do things :weird:

as i said, i know how to do the effect bones, if you remember i told you things like "the peeps face X+" and such (whether you said you knew that already or not) its funny that the whole of yesterday you never pointed out that the stuff about the meshes was in the PDF yourself, maybe it is becouse you didn't see it either :up:

oh, those were just examples, i ain't going to go and quote everything from the past few days, i have no idea what you got other people to tell you and i am actually not really bothered what they told you but all i know is that you got a lot more help than you are making out, and the ignoring the fact that you first started talking to me by asking "how would you go about grouping the restraints?". its funny how you are goody-goody nice guy when you want to know something and then just let people get on with it when you have found out how.

since you have obviously spent ages reading and re-reading the tutorial yourself then i am sure you would have come across how to do it before so it amazes me how you seemed to completely forget that that part existed. in truth, i have read the tutorial, not in great detail but in the sections which i need to know as i am going along, i mean, what is the point of reading something that does not apply to me? and since the section on assigning objects you your armature (not bone) and that it is a total of three lines, i am not surprised i missed it.

i doubt, in the case of CFR's i have said to read the tutorials,(you can try find one if you really want) i may have told them to look at the tutorials for normal CS, but since the tutorial for CFR's is in a foreign language in some parts to most of us then i doubt i would have told them to go and read it since i am not in the position to since half of it i do not understand myself therefore telling someone to read something that i didn't understand myself i wouldn't be expecting a lot to happen. and of course, you have never directed someone toward a tutorial when they need it? usually it is the right thing to do whether they read it/understand it or not, at least they have more of a chance than not having it at all.
