Ckef's Urban Transport Pack

Hey there!
Currently I'm working on a transport pack that's useable in cities or villages.
For now I got a normal bus imported, I still need to animate the doors and give it rotating wheels, it has 40 peep seatings (one of them is the driver).

Here you have a list from what I probably will make, the "-"-" are coasters and everything under it are the cars you can choose from:

-BusPack-
Bus
Articulated Bus
(and yes I know how I'm going to do the articulated one)
Double Decker

-TruckPack-
Closed
Wood
Tank
Empty

-CarPack-
Normal
Caravan
Fancy

-TransportPack-
Van
Taxi

-FlatbedPack-
(thanks to azanderz for using his tracks (edited caus of polycount))
Empty
B&M
B&M Inverted
Looping
Mouse
Stormrunner
Vekoma

If you have any fancy ideas, post it below :)

And I WILL continue with my Beach set but it just had a huge break, I'm going to do this pack as "extra work", so I won't update it as fast as others (and I update not so fast so this one will go in slow-motion or something)
Oo btw, I got a 1440x900 screen.

Anyways, the pics:

Bus Front:

Bus Back:

Inside the bus:

Dashboard:

Outside pic. You can see that I random placed the peep seatings, so it looks a little bit more realistic:

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/4375/sideview.jpg (http://img527.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sideview.jpg)

And a "upper" pic, here you can see that the front and back of the bus are kinda swinging around the middle of the bus, to get it a bit more realistic too:

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/7688/above.jpg (http://img527.imageshack.us/my.php?image=above.jpg)

And of course the whole thing is recolorable (outside upper color, outside lower color, seets):

Now this is a great idea ckef01, but are you planning to do a double decker bus or a flatbed truck so that you can do it like parade flatbeds like you see at disneyland, if you know what i mean.

You should probably save the pictures as jpegs. They won't take as long to load.

In this pic you can see it has kinda a x-ray effect on itself
Then you probably haven't selected "regular" or "masked" at "Transparency".

looks very nice :)
i would suggest you to do a flatbed with a biiig steel coaster support on it aswell :) i think those would be used alot. Maybe also a flatbed with some track pieces like mouse pieces. I have a track some tracks that i will allow you to use if you want :)

this is what i mean

Nice ideas!, I'll do the flatbed as 1 coaster with multiple cars (like B&M track, Mouse Tracks, Inverted tracks and all that stuff), oo btw forgot to say wich cars are going to be in 1 coaster in the first post *editing*

Aaaaargh, forgot it again, next time I'll do.

I really have, just checked it (saved the file)

OMG totally snap! Well one of my screens are, the other is 4:3 and so it makes the dual screen config a little wonky :bulb:

And OMS your bus looks great! That driver was a really nice touch! And I'm glad your doing a Bendy Bus :)!

Hey! Very nice work there, Ckef01! I like the idea of the double decker bus, and I wouldn't mind seeing an open-air design (basically a cloth covered top, like you might find in old Calcutta).

The X-Ray effect within the model can be fixed by ordering the meshes so the outside glass is the last mesh in the list of meshes; other meshes will then be drawn before the outside glass instead of after- the culprit to the X-Ray effect.

Yea, exported the model and edited it so it's on the end of of the mesh list, and it worked :D, thanks man, and you know, I'm going to do a open-air one, way nicer to sit in.

Looks good, But i think the textures are too simple.

I don't really see it so could you suggest where to add detail? (oo btw, I'm not happy with the dashboard too, I think I'm going to add that huge calculator you see in almost every buss (or whatever it is..))

Thanks to vodhin so I've solved this x-ray problem :):

These are great! Are you going to do more then one bus? Like different skins?

It's really a good start, but I don't think I've seen a bus that has those sharp angles you have on the corners and the roof. That's really the only thing I don't like about this. Of course, I have no idea how you'd change that without adding faces since I don't make CS myself.

Oh my gosh! Has anybody here seen the movie Speed!? That bus looks exactly like the one in the movie! Ckef, if it were on a coaster track, I would totally make a Speed ride. That would be amazing. Great work so far!

Thanks guys, and DiD0, I just fixed the x-ray problem and wanted to share the great look :)

I can't do that, it's a CTR and as far as I know CTRs don't support billboards.

Of course, see the list on the first post :)

I don't know how to fix, the bus already has 2989 faces so adding round corners won't work on older computer (in big parks and such.., and of course I'm going to do LODs), and if I soften the edges it looks too soft, then I like this way better..

Don't think that I gonna make it a coaster, but anyways thanks :)

Re-think the seats and the recessed windows. I "see" far fewer faces looking at the pics you've supplied (under 1000). There must be a lot of faces lurking on the bottom of things.

Look Here for tips on this (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showpost.php?p=11061288&postcount=26)

I will admit I am hard to impress when it comes to CS, CTR & CFR. When I saw this I have to admit it's coming out great however, like Vodhin said check your faces. Get rid of faces that will not be viewable to the eye. It will cut down on alot of your poly count. Also watch out for rounded edges but otherwise your doing a great job :)

You should probably curve the edges and use 'sharp bus' as the 2nd LOD. Besides that, Awesome Job :)

i think you should add some lines like the tram car have...
i think you need to add some realistic shading, like Texture with Gradient..

Thanks for the link, I first want to finish every model who is build up the same (like that V one), then I can edit them at the same time without a big difference, I already removed some not-seen faces underneath the seets and I thought of an idea for the windows, to sink them a bit more in and make it one long face, so it actually has 4 planes (not so good at counting it..) :)

You should probably curve the edges and use 'sharp bus' as the 2nd LOD. Besides that, Awesome Job :)

I'll do if I get those polys down ;)

Why lines from a tram car..? I mean it's a modern bus, shading I'll do.

So I got the articulated bus in-game, I still need to fix alot but it's something :):

http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/7426/shot0235.jpg (http://img27.imageshack.us/my.php?image=shot0235.jpg)

And a got a texture problem, whatever I do (re-textured, exported it again, "refresh" textures in the importer) the texture will display smaller, I only got this on the texture for the main body:

That's not looking half bad..I don't know what much more you could do texture wise. Might be able to blur in some small panel detail's at the bottom, maybe something like that. But honestly that was a suggestion, not a critique on the bus.

Looks Great. Hope to see for progress soon.

To follow up on Vodhins comments, don't model detail, put it into the texture.

From the articulated bus I can see that you've modelled the window portals and curves around the tires. You could reduce the entire side of the bus from several hundred polys to just 2 by turning it into one big alpha texture. Separate mesh for the glass. Do the same alpha trick for the interior.

^ currently I'm bussy with the lowering the poly from the bus and getting it animated + wheel rotation, I may start the trackbeds soon and the san francisco trolley, but don't know sure about the trolley yet..
